Any updates on Tommy Angelo\'s book?

I am also in contact with Tommy. Should be getting cover art and descriptive text in the next week or two. Once I am assured we are under 30 days from arrival it will go up for pre-release ordering.

Last I heard Tommy was trying to keep this book in limited quantity. Is this still true?

I just heard that he had decided to have it printed in the UK, and as a result it won't reach the US market for at least another 6 to 9 months.

That would be fine as long as he isn't stupid enough to come in here and say the reason we have to wait so long is because he saved money.

LDO, but it ain't lying it is witholding information that the buyer doesn't really need. This was clearly a situation that required them to be, what I refer to as "suitably vauge". "Unavoidable delays" or "Circumstances caused a delay" would have been plenty of information and wouldn't have bothered me at all.

Fair enough. You reach a stage of rueful acceptance where for the sake of an easy life you don't want your girlfriend to tell you exactly where she's been.

ME: "Hey honey. Did you go out last night?"

GIRLFRIEND: "Yeah. Had a great time, too."

ME: "Really, where'd you go?"

GF: "The Bunny Ranch."

ME: "The Bunny Ranch?"

GF: "Yeah."

ME: "But isn't that a brothel?"

GF: "Yeah."

ME: "So you went as a customer, or were you... auditioning?"

"GF: "Sweetheart, don't ask questions unless you really want to know the answer."

It's at the publisher's. Probably another six weeks or so and it will be out. Well worth the wait.

that's okay with me, Barry T's new limit book is going to require a lot of study and practice so later is better for me in this situation.

This month's Two Plus Two Internet Magazine has an excerpt from Tommy's book.

Book Excerpt from "Elements of Poker": Fastrolling

Ithought this book would be great, but
To be honest the excerpt in the 2+2 mag does not look very iteresting

question - what did you expect from the book? i ask because the quote was classic Tommy, it was exactly what I expect and would want to read. His specialty is in how to mentally approach the game and the adjustments that need to be made to be "one with the table".

Your opinion is always welcome and encouraged. I find Mike's dirt-cheap US dollar prices to be balanced by prohibitive shipping costs, so I go with my trusted current supplier.

Re: Any updates on Tommy Angelo\'s book?

FYI - There are 3-4 shipping options. Be sure to click the pull-down to see them all on the checkout screen. Single book orders that select first class international (the least expensive option) will ship upgraded in a flat rate priority envelope. This applies to the standard 2+2 sized books.

I am a big fan of Tommy Angelo and agree with pokerpun's assessment; it was pretty unimpressive and not useful at all to an online player.

What can one say to that? A lot, but it would be hard to be polite.

If you understand the thought process behind what he's saying, it will help you become a better player (person?). If you don't, then stick to online. Your life will be easier.

Tommy's book looks like it will be closer in concept to the psychological components of Barry G's book than a traditional strategy book, but thats fine since thought process is what separates an expert player from world class players. I know a lot of very good players on 2+2 in real life because I travel a lot for business and live in Vegas, the #1 "leak" in the best of this bunch's game is not strategic; its how they approach the game where the mistakes are commonly made.

I think topics such as Quitting, Anticipation, Fears, Moving Up, Entitlement and Self-Perpetuating Tiltlessness are challenges for all players yet its one of the least addressed components of a players game. I doubt very much anyone will find a magic bullet in Tommy's work, but you will find some self improvement - if (and only if) thats what your looking for.

I respect Tommy's work, I've read his website before and I'm looking forward to buying the book. I'm looking forward to reading his more general conceptual stuff as well. I'm just saying I do not think that particular chapter provided a lot of useful insight to someone like me who plays 99% online. I wish he published one of the chapters TT mentioned ("Quitting, Anticipation, Fears, Moving Up, Entitlement and Self-Perpetuating Tiltlessness") which all sound very applicable and interesting.

re: TT: Barry's book is one of my favorites as well even with a lot of stuff that isn't directly applicable to a player like me (i.e. describing a lot of casino-centered stuff like a paragraph on what a floor man does).

If you have somebody you like, then by all means stick with them. I don't have a decent bookstore nearby so I can almost buy two books from Mike for what it costs me to go pick it up and I get the new releases fast, I mean lightening fast. If I remember correctly, he drove over immediately as it was available, picked up my copy of ALHS (granted he probably picked up books for others also) and mailed it the same day. I have to have a lot of love for someone that will do that.
