I have been super excited about this for a few months now. The FIFA demo is better than the PES demo imo. From what I am told, EAsports is releasing the downloadable version tomorrow night and the CD version Thursday. Anyone else getting it on PC up for some live play?

The fact that FIFAs franchise mode is always deeper and more fun is why I am buying FIFA. I am addicted to building teams.

I went to Best Buy at lunch and bought it. The guy in the video game section said EA wasnt letting them sell it until 2pm. Seeing as it was 1:25 I almost supertilted. But then the guy was like, eh, whatever, take it. So now I am at work for about an hour more, but then I will go home and play FIFA all night.

I am just seeing the PES 2008 release date as "Spring 2008" and knowing:
a) no way i will be able to wait that long for new soccer game.
b) if that is cool when it comes out i will buy it also.

If you love Pro Evo because of the gameplay mechanics then it is very unlikely that you would prefer FIFA. The two franchises have been competing for many years, and every single year Pro Evo has more realistic and more engaging gameplay. That is not to say that FIFA is not fun to play, but it is certainly simpler and more arcadish. FIFA however does have the full license to all the clubs and players which means you don't have to change the team names or play in made up leagues. FIFA also generally looks much better. If you play hockey games, Pro Evo is like the 2K series and FIFA is like EA's NHL 0x series (until this year where NHL 08 nails the gameplay).

Personally I am willing to trade the gameplay elements in favour of the team licenses and greater graphics, but I am not much of a soccer game fan and suspect that if I was I would prefer Pro Evo.

Man, I didnt know until now that only PS3 and X360 will use the newest graphics which they wont have on PC. Pretty weak imo.

I've played PES, well it was ISS then, since way back on the PS1 and as for the latest installment I've only played the demo. But the demo is based on the same game engine as all other Pro Evo's / WE's. And until Konami update this I stick to my opinion that FIFA is now the better game. Pro Evo was undisputed for many many years but the old cliche of 'it and it aint broke then don't fix it' has been used way to many times now and Konami need to add more than just a few new animations to justify the new game every year, they current format could just be patched each year and that would be more justifiable.That is my honest opinion and I truly was a PES lover who wouldn't even contemplate FIFA for many years.

Quick opinion:

Absolutely loving it so far. However, I can't STAND the menu system at all. It seems too clunky but I guess I'm used to spreadsheets in text simulators.

Regarding in-game play though, I feel like I'm winning too many headers but that may due to the teams I'm picking. The majority of my games have been online and I've gone with Chelsea or Real Madrid since the teams that my opponents typically choose are Liverpool, Man Utd or Barca.

I love watching my fullbacks overlap and my teammates make runs when they don't have the ball. I'm disappointed that we can only setup 4 plays though (2 def, 2 off). Tempo seems to be dictated based on the player with the ball. For example, if I'm sprinting with the ball, my teammates will step up their pace and head for open channels. Regarding defending, I haven't noticed too many miscues but we have to take sample size into consideration. Anyway, back to the sticks . . .

By the way, the game is gorgeous too.

I might have to get this game.. maybe in a month or two, just too many good games on the market right now!! Not enough time to play all of them (Halo3, BioShock, Orange Box, PGR4, NHL08)

Well the game has awesome graphics. Wasn't expecting that. I played a couple regular games and there was def a huge difference in AI. The defenders are much smarter and its more fun that way. After a couple games I decided to try out the Be A Pro mode and I think I actually enjoyed it more than the regular game. Its actually really fun trying to make correct runs and stay in the right positions, the in game challenges are fun and I think this is a mode I could get addicted to.

so your team mates actually make runs and overlap??? Wow, don't remember seeing anyone do that in WE9, which was aggravating to no end.

Yes, the new manual cross and manual through pass make the fact that 3-4 teammates will be making runs through gaps that much more fun. Just woke up, called in sick and ready to play!

I just got this game yesterday for Wii. Initial thoughts:

1. No career mode. I think this will greatly shorten the game's replay value.

2. After years of playing on a classic controller, it's very hard to relearn the controls for the wii. I feel like a noob.

3. Online play was too laggy. It would a whole second to respond to my commands. This might be because I'm playing from Australia, though.

It's not a bad soccer game, overall. I look forward to inviting friends over and setting up some matches. It should tide me over until W11/PES comes out.

I didn't really give "Be a Pro" a chance until today. I'm having a lot of fun being a target man and setting up plays for my quick striker (Defoe). I thought the feature would be rather cheesy but it just adds more replay value.

- Switch teams
- Not a point purchase system
- Huge database of players
- All real teams, divisions, etc
- Media interaction

The bad?
- No league restrictions (for example, 1 non-EU transfer in Serie A allowed per season or the work permit system in EPL)
- Scouting (Give me a list instead of just one player that you recommend)

Am I being a nit? Yep. I want an FM like manager mode.

Anyone get 08 on the PC? I've played like 3-4 games now but im tired of starting a game, playing as cameroon or something and titling my room "african nat. teams only" and then having someone join as barca over and over again. FUFUFUFU. anyone on here wanna play?

I mean its one thing that if you look at the game list 60% of people are being barca, with like 15% of matchups being barca v barca. JUST BE A DIFFERENT [censored] TEAM.

The first game I played the room title was "noob1stgame" and I had picked Lyon. Of course the other guy plays me as the Italian National Team. GREAT MATCHUP DUDE!!!

in conclusion, I am mostly pissed off at how retarded these people are, not that they just pick barca.

I cannot believe how much EA improved their product in one year. Its pretty [censored] ridiculous. However, I played the 360 version at my friends house the other day and its graphics are MUCH better and the pc graphics are just a slight upgrade over last year. I will now be considering the 360/ps3 dilemma.

I've been playing online about 2-3 times a day and im getting fairly decent. the guy talking about his vision of a real time 11 on 11 game with each person playing their own player just like gave me a hardon. man my faith in ea is restored in this franchise, but not really any of the others.

edit: last night i was ahead 1-0 in stoppage time and lost 1-2 when it said 2 minutes were added and we played like an hour. pwned [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]
