whining about FTOPS Razz -

1st - congratulations SG for sat'ing into the trny -

For anyone who doesn't know, the FTOPS Razz event is Nov 8th at 9pm with a $300 buy-in. (plus $22 for FT natch)

Naturally, I'd love to play. But a poor micro-player in a slump hasn't got 3 hundred - or even the $69+6 for one of the MTT Razz sats.

But they do have an $11 SnG and a $24+2 SnG and I found an FTP MTT for it that I had enough points to play. ALL NLHE.

Hence, the whining.

I'm going to go whine at FT now. Anyone care to join me?

Didn't know about this. I guess it is part of the FTOPS. I plan on playing.

Played the WCCOP and 2nd chance razz events. Didn't do that well, which suprised me, since I beat the 15/30 or so games on FT.

Isn't there a $40 sng (razz) for FTOPS razz? That's the cheapest razz event I've seen. If anyone wants to back me, I'm taking offers

I'm pissed because this is the night before the final presentation of my training program and the WCOOP razz event was on one of 4 fridays during the entire 5 months we haven't gotten out by 4:30. Didn't anyone in the WCOOP have a job?

The last three FTOPS didn't have Razz events at all. So I'm just glad they haven't done away with them forever.

Also, Hi/Lo for the first time is nice.

Thanks prax, I jumped on the first satellite they offered and beat the humongous field of 6. I agree there should be some medium-sized field satellites for $10-20 but they may wait till it's a little closer to the event since they have to get enough runners in it for at least a $322 prize pool.

Well, I'm hoping whining at them - uh - making an intelligent and well-reasoned argument - will influence this. PStars didn't have anything but NLHE for for people either until the end.

Yeah, Rusty, the SnG is razz, but for me, it's easier to win a seat in a big MTT because I don't have to win-win, just get close as they often award multiple entries. AND the competition doesn't tend to be as tough.

I suppose some who played the WCOOP must have had day jobs, but there was enough money at stake for one sickday call!

Oh well, I'll rail all o' ya - RAH! GO TEAM!

Playing MTT satellites to a $300 event as a micro player is pretty bad in terms of bankroll-management. When you do well enough in an MTT to win $300 you want to win that in cash.

I think I am going to play the FTOPS stud8 event, but I'll probably buy in directly because I hate playing satellites where only the winner is rewarded.

I'd probably agree if it were a regular thing. But I don't play tournaments regularly, and as such I consider taking a cheap shot at a big-payoff event as being outside of my bankroll. It's like buying a nice steak dinner once a year that might win me a couple thousand dollars when I eat it.

By "outside my bankroll" I mean "not related to my bankroll". It's money that I can just plain afford to lose if I feel like it, like playing blackjack or clench-the-butt-on-the-donkey

how big are the fields in these and how long do they last compared to the wcoop. I remember all the wcoop lasted atleast 10 hours or so, i don't think i can play that long. I might play the stud8 one though if im not busto

I know of at least three micro players on Stars who sat'ed into the WCOOP and at least two of them made the money. One of them made the final table. I know the other made several hundred. Not bad for a twenty dollar or so investment for a micro player. Those were just the ones I recognized from the list of finishers.

If I had to say how many micro players sat'ed in and cashed, I would say about 3.5 out of ten. But only about 5% of them tried, so even if half of those cashed, it's like a really small number.

Re: whining about FTOPS Razz -

Prax: I'm saying it's bad br-management, and it is. Playing satellites comes with such huge variance that you basically should be able to buy into the event directly to justify it. I've blown a whole roll just playing satellites.

mrmr: So you think micro players had a way better cashing ratio than the people who buy in directly?

Well, that may be - but the fact is, if we had $2-300 to pay for a trny entry, we wouldn't be micro players, we'd be playing 2/4-3/6. A satellite is a one-shot - maybe a two-shot deal for a micro - and buying into the trny is bad management for everyone, isn't it? I mean, what are the odds anyone cashes? Katya Thater couldn't get into the money. Neither could betgo. Or a lot of other great players, big field/bad cards, they'd both have made a lot more money just playing cash games.

I have the FTPs to play two satellites. I just would like to have them be Razz.

Uhm, to play $300 tourneys you should have a bank roll of like $20k. To play $3/6 you need $1500

We're talking about a tourney that has occurred twice in calendar '07 (WCOOP and FTOPS). You don't need a $20k BR to take a shot at a once in a blue moon tourney event. As for the sats, if prax can convince FTP to implement affordable sats for the microstakers, then it's good management to decide on a % of your BR to dedicate to them (no more than 20%) and go for it. For prax and a lot of other players, winning the sat and getting to play in the FTOPS event is worth more in utility than $300.

How about winning some MTT an using the $ for a buy in? Or place high in some.

Beat: Ever since the wife d/l'd some update on FTP i can't log into it.*

Brag: Won the $10+1 Stud tourney on 10/8 for $177

Variance: It was on Stars and there's no way to transfer the $ to FTP (without check cashout, send to FTP) because I CAN"T LOG ON!

*I tried uninstalling the FTP client and reinstalling. Still no go. Something about FullTilt.e.exe not working or some [censored] like that.

RustyBrooks 10-11-2007 07:01 PM

Re: whining about FTOPS Razz -

You could find someone with an account on both to do the transfer.

Pretty bad that satelites into a Razz tourney are NLHE. Makes no sense to me. I will say that Razz SNGs on Full Tilt don't run very often at any buy-in. I'm sure that's their reasoning.
