Vegas for New Years- three last minute hotel choices
[Don't know if this is the right forum, but since other vegas threads seemed to be here, I put it here. Move if appropriate]
For better or for worse, I'm doing New Years in Vegas, and given the time frame and money limitations, I have three choices. Thoughts? All prices are for three nights. Also, keep in mind that we get in on the 31st, and after checking in will be on the strip by early afternoon, and won't return until well into the morning. (1) Circus Circus, $340. Pros- On strip; near where friends are staying. Cons- Never really heard great things. (2) Comfort Inn, $225. Pros- Cheap; near strip. Cons- No casino (minor); not ON strip. (3) Vegas Club, $215. Pros- Cheap; heard for the price, really prety decent place to stay. Cons- Far away from friends/downtown. |
Re: Vegas for New Years- three last minute hotel choices
Here's something else I'm considering: staying at the cheapest place on New Year's, probably that comfort inn, and then moving to a nicer strip hotel (Ballys or TI, probably) for the other two nights. Has anyone done that? Is it too inconvenient?

Re: Vegas for New Years- three last minute hotel choices
New Years is way overhyped for new years. Ive lived here for about 9 yrs and I never go out on new years. Cant drive near strip, no parking, clubs charge double, cant go inside hotels w/o room key.... crowded wall to wall...
I cant think of a worse time to plan a trip out here other than Super Bowl Sunday or Labor/Memorial Day |

I'm gonna be there. |

Re: Vegas for New Years- three last minute hotel choices
Did you try Binion's? I am going at that same time and I was able to book by calling them. I think I got it for Dec 24 - Jan 1 for around $500. With a few hours play per day I can get the poker rate for $29 during the week - even good on NYE and $45 on Friday and Saturday.

I foolishly booked without checking up on the site (TripRes) and apparently they are known for going through the entire booking process for deals that they aren't sure exist. Looks like that's the case, as instead of a confirmation, I got an "itinerary received" e-mail stating that they will let me know when it's been confirmed. Being cheap isn't worth it. |
Re: Vegas for New Years- three last minute hotel choices
If you don't care about quality of accomodations, Casino Royale was the cheapest I found. It is mid strip between Venetian and Harrahs. Room quality is like a motel 6.

When they give it to me I say "Thanks, but I've found it lower elsewhere" and sometimes they'll match it. |

I think I paid $109 a night for the weekend and New Years Eve(Monday). Room quality is like the Motel 6, (it used to be a Travelodge) but cleanliness can vary greatly by room. That said, here is my take on the place: Cons: * The drinks come out in 8oz glasses; * The waitresses range from 2's - 5's; * Don't expect to sleep until 5am if noise bothers you; Pros: * You can't beat the price for the location; * You will have a new drink in front of you every 4-6 minutes; * Blackjack Switch w/$5 Min bet. Guess it's not TripRes' amazing ability to find great rates that has it being the only online deal site with rates at tons of strip hotels. |

The location is orgasmatic. |

Palace Station, then Harrah's. It came down to a view-room at Harrah's or a standard at Bally's, and I found pretty good reviews of the "Luxury View" at Harrah's, and it was cheaper, so I went with that. |

Re: Vegas for New Years- three last minute hotel choices
I've stayed there countless times and while noise bothers me I never had a problem sleeping here. Just make SURE to unplug the phone. The maid will call your room even though you have the do not disturb sign up!

Re: Vegas for New Years- three last minute hotel choices
The one time I almost had to stay in a Vegas hotel NY Eve I picked The Orleans. I ended up closing on the Vegas house on Dec 31 so I got to spend NY Eve sleeping on an air-mattress on the floor of the empty house, instead, and saved a bundle by checking out Friday morning before what woulda been like a $1000 NYEve weekend stay.
TheOrleans rate calendar shows Thu/Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon/Tue/Wed priced at 50/100/140/160/250/50/35. Gotta love that 250:35 change over a two-day span. |
