Would I look like a complete dork/loser/etc if I brought a bag lunch?
 

I play at Motorcity Casino in Detroit, and as those of you that play there in the late hours know, the food choices are woefully inadequate. I've had the cafeteria-style food so much in the last several days, and I'm really sick of the taste and calories. Would I look completely ridiculous if I brought a small cooler that fit under my chair, and ate from it? Anyone else do this kind of thing? I joked with my buddy about it and he thought it seemed like a fine idea.

For as long its not an ethnic type of food like Indian or Philipino ur ok, cold cut sandwiches should be ok, banana is ok but dont lick it while eating it.

I think that's a good idea. I don't see why you're worrying about looiking like a dork in a pokerroom. I duon't know about you but I'm certainly not there to make friends. If bringing food is going to make long sessions easier for you sounds good to me. Provided of course its not something obnoxious that smells funny or bothers other players in any way.

I'm going to add that I probably wouldn't eat it at the table if I did bring a lunch. Other than that, yeah, that's fine but as long as it doesn't smell funny.

As long as there is not a note from your mother in the bag telling you to have a good day at poker, you should be good.

I saw a man, at Bellagio, who brought some kind of survival chili that came complete with its own way to cook and heat itself, kind of like the MREs. I guess if it flies at Bellagio, why not at Motor City?

There is limit player at Wynn who brings enough food for a day long excursion when he plays. Sometimes it looks mighty tasty too !!

Tuna salad doesn't have to smell bad. First, buy high-quality canned tuna packed in water. Squeeze every bit of water out of it. Mix with onion powder, pickle relish, pepper, and mayonnaise (tho Miracle Whip is better). And don't, under any circumstances, mix in chopped boiled egg.

The only bad thing about bringing your own food is letting everybody know you're a regular. If you don't think that's a problem, do whatever you want. Just don't bring tuna salad. With or without egg.

To the OP: if yoU just bring a backpack with all your possessions in it, completely lose all personality, become a total stiff, smoke and drink lots of black coffee so as to have the proper breath, AND bring a sack lunch, then you'll look like a REAL professional poker player.

Miracle whip = better. No eggs. I like real onions, not too many, finely diced. Also some chopped celery adds crunchiness and a nice flavor.

I have considered this often. In fact I was at Target when I found a NICE insulated backpack (check about 3 months back in one of my posts-maybe longer) and was pretty excited to bring it with me.

I called security and asked if I could bring a backpack into the casino w/ food and they said no. So, on the record you can't do it, however I'd be really interested to see if we could get it by them somehow, someway. I have a couple bananas stuffed in my inside coat pocket and they see that every day and have no problems w/ it. I don't know why they'd have a problem w/ a small cooler. Other people bring in fanny packs.

Maybe we could talk to Ken or Tomas about this or perhaps somebody else higher up. It would make it sooo much easier to play longer sessions.

I bring a smallish bag with me and in it is a big bottle of water and trail mix and other random stuff to eat. I don't like to get up from time games for dumb things like food so I nourish at the table.

Try not to touch the food you're eating, it's so unbelievably unsanitary.

Have you considered bringing a selection of Cliff bars.. They can taste really good, fill you up, and are in no way unpleasant to the other people at the table.

No problem at all, so long as you are permitted to bring stuff in. I'd suggest a small backpack with a soft cooler thingy, rather than an actual cooler. At some places they don't want you bringing in your own alcohol (like Canterbury), so a backpack arouses less concern on the part of security. I got stopped on the way into CP with an open diet coke, and they made me toss it, but I've brought a backpack or a large briefcase in several times without a hitch.

Eat the sandwiches provided, sissy. I get sick less than half the time.

PS: DO NOT touch the Roast Beef.
PS: Never the pastami.

Obviously, the chickensalad and tuna salad are a deathwish.

And I don't trust the turkey or ham, or anything with mayo.

Oh, And the pretzels are always stale.

Otherwise, I wholeheartedly recommend anything on the menu.

Just bring a backpack and put all your belongings in it, like ipod, money, keys, books, etc. Then when u wanna eat just take the bag and go away from the table, either a cafeteria area or somewhere to eat, that easy......and u wont feel like an idiot

I usually bring a few power bars as well (3 or 4). I've heard of these Cliff bars. I'll have to give 'em a try next week.

actually the roast beef, if you can get it when they first bring it out is usually pretty good. The trail mix is good too, but salty.

As long as you don't spread a tablecloth with napkins and silverware, I think nobody would look twice.

I would nix the "cooler" though. I bring in a standard grocery store plastic bag with a water, book, newspaper, and sometimes an apple, carrots, trail mix, etc. and Security at FW never asks to search it. Though at FW you are not allowed to eat at the table.
