cavemen/carpoolers - season premiere(s)

anybody else watching this? this definitely has potential. i was just watching it for the sake of watching it at first, but i'm really laughing more than i thought i would. and terry from reno 911's in it, and i know he'll be great. i just wonder if the dialog can keep it up for more than an episode or two.

edit - i'm going to watch carpoolers too, so this will be my crappy abc comedy blog post of the night, but please feel free to share your thoughts

Cavemen was bad, but I only caught the last 5 minutes of it. Carpoolers, on the other hand, I thought was hillarious.

Re: cavemen/carpoolers - season premiere(s)

cavemen was atrocious. you could tell what the jokes were supposed to be, it just wasnt funny. like when the guy says, "yah, if you like phony ppl, then turns and orders some 10 word coffee drink. lmao iroic, haha.

seriously. watch How I met your mother, or the office, or scrubs, or 2.5 men, then watch cavemen, and you will see just how bad this show is.

For me, there just isnt a point. IF the premise of the whole show is "hey look, the geico caveppl" this show is done.

If they can take this premise and make it entertaining, that would be different.

I'll watch again next week, and the week after that. AFter 3 shows, I will see how I feel about it.

It's almost like ABC is completely giving up on the primetime sitcom market at this point. They turned a Geico commercial into a show. That pretty much says it all.

i liked carpoolers, i'm dying to find out why jerry minor's character puts up with that whale of a wife.

I'm pretty sure television in general is giving up on the sitcom.

I thought Cavemen was going to be spectacularly horrendous, but it was only just regular bad. Even if you find it funny, it's going to get old immediately because the humor is simply that they are cavemen acting like normal people.

Carpoolers - I didn't catch enough of it to judge it. I really like the guy who plays Gracen so I may give it a shot next week.

I was severely disappointed in Cavemen, I've always loved the Geico commercials and thought it would be awesome like them, but it wasn't, and yes, the makeup was just horrible.

Carpoolers, never even heard of it until this thread came out before the shows started out here, so I watched it and I LOL'd many times, seems like it has great potential.

Seriously. To be watching crap like this you have to be DESPERATE to be sitting in front of the TV. I just don't get why people are compelled to watch major network sitcoms like these that could not possibly be good. I mean the previews make it abundantly obvious.

Everyone I was watching Carpoolers with was cracking up pretty hard when dude's son says something along the lines of:
"How much does dinner cost, I've never bought it before, is it... a thousand dollars?"

This character is my favorite so far. He seems to be inspired by Napolean Dynamite and I'm sure many will hate him for it. I wasn't impressed with the acting of junior or the black guy, but they might grow on me.

I've only got one other show I watch, so I'm going to make a point on keeping up with this one.

i thought the caveman show was decent, but probably doesnt have enough of "it" to last.

the commercials for carpoolers and the general theme of it put me on tilt. the whole "man date" thing, trying to be a show for guys...and then we have a guy who is insecure about having his wife be his meal ticket, a guy who is his wife's bitch, a guy who is completely unfunny in a "recently divorced" role, and a guy who thinks the world is all roses cause he's recently married. blah. i'd love to meet the creators of the show, because they're either female or gay.

I tivo-ed Cavemen, and am watching it now. Not very good. BUT, if you have it tivo-ed or dvr-ed, listen closely to when the caveman and his girlfriend are in the bunkbed at the fake-Ikea. Right after she says, "Oh my God, you are all hair!", what does he say? Seriously, it sounds a LOT like he says, "I love f---ing here". Obviously, it's not what he says, but what did he say?

I'm open to suggestions, but I really don't watch much TV. I just happened to have it on last night and happened to like this show.

I also watch The Office, because it's hilarious.
I'll start watching Lost once that comes back on because I'm addicted.

If I watch any other sitcoms it's usually my DVDs of Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared or Arrested Development. I doubt there is anything of this caliber on TV currently.

Re: cavemen/carpoolers - season premiere(s)

Couple things about Cavemen:

- The guys in the commercials are not in the show. Two of them tested for it but didn't get it and the third is John Lehr, who has his own show on TBS (10 Items or Less) so he wasn't able to do it. The creative from the Martin Agency who was primarily responsible for conceiving the Geico campaign took a leave to work on the show, and the directors of the commercials (Speck/Gordon) directed the pilot. Not sure if they're doing all the episodes, but probably.

- The cavemen look worse because of how long the makeup and prosthetics take to apply and how cumbersome it all becomes after only a few hours. When you only need thirty seconds of material it's easier to spend more time applying everything and to shoot quickly enough that discomfort isn't as big of an issue. I'm assuming they're undergoing a different process on the show than on the commercials to deal with this.

One of them (Jeff Daniel Phillips) is in the show. According to http://imdb.com/name/nm0680489/board/nest/70771823 he's the one who is in the following Geico commercials:
Airport/Royksopp spot-people mover
Mango-Salsa-"no appetite" caveman
CNN-type interview
Penthouse Party-the caveman in the white jacket.
The caveman in www.cavemanscrib.com

He only has a small part in the show. He's the one who couldn't drive the other guys to the club because he drove his Boxster. And he said to the chick on the curb.

Overall, I thought that was one of the worst TV shows I've ever seen. I didn't laugh once. None of the humor of the commericials is there.

Geico commercials have good humor, filling their 30 seconds with 30 seconds of humor.

Having 30 seconds of humor in a 22 minute show is ridiculously awful, and I can't believe anyone green-lighted this.

zero chance either of those shows survives october. move along, nothing to see here.

p.s. "gentlemen, let's carpool" might be the stupidest tagline in television history. people need to be fired over this.

Actually - if last night's ratings are any indicator they might stick around - both comedies opened for ABC quite nicely - won outright in all male demos for the hour, 2nd overall to CBS (barely edged by NCIS).

Haha but if this thread is any indicator, should see a decent drop-off in next week's numbers...

Ah yes, the angry one, my favorite. I think I'd like the show if the characters had more exaggerated personalities, like the commercials. Not just typical sitcom guys with lots of hair.

So ABC cancelled Knights of Prosperity and In Case of Emergency for these shows?

Carpoolers may end up good, but neither compares with Knights.

Re: cavemen/carpoolers - season premiere(s)

Cavemen was awful. Didn't watch Carpoolers.

Did anyone else notice that with VERY VERY little exception, the Cavemen could've been just normal everyday humans and the script wouldn't have needed changing? If the purpose is to pass along the socio-political point "Just because they look different doesn't mean they are different" then it was acheived. If the point, however, was comedy....total failure.

EDIT:apparently everyone in the last fifteen minutes noticed it.

Re: cavemen/carpoolers - season premiere(s)

I can't possibly understand why anyone would find anything related to the Geico Cavemen funny.

The characters are near blatant rip offs of Phil Hartman's character in his 'Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer' SNL skit. Basically the same concept; middle-aged cavemen living and working in an upper class society, with cocky, modernistic attitudes.

The difference is the SNL skit was somewhat original and entertaining, while these clowns are pathetic.
