How do I Tell a Girl that she Smells Bad?
 

There's this young chick who's a semi-regular in my bar. Comes in every weekend and normally lasts the whole night. She's in her early twenties, about an OOT 7, and a generally all round nice young woman. Apart from the tiny little problem regarding her body odour.

The fact is that she smells bad. How bad? Well from behind the bar it's like getting hit with a baseball bat across the nasal zone. If she's sitting at the bar and I'm working, I need to stay out of a five foot zone around her person.

Nobody says anything to her because, well this is the problem. How do you say something? I want her to fix her personal hygine more for herself than for me. I feel bad for her. I feel bad for me too having to work with her there, but I feel more bad for her. I think...

So how do I tell her without completely alienating her from my bar? I live in a small mountain valley. It's important to keep the regulars happy. Even if they do smell to high heaven.

give her an anonymous note. say, someone asked me to give this to you. and make it polite, suggesting she shower before you come to the bar.

I would likely just mention that something smells bad every time you are around her and hope she gets the idea.

Also, I'm having a hard time believing she is an OOT 7, yet still has a smell zone of 5 feet. That type of blast radius is typically common in only hobos or the elderly.

i've definitely been around girls who were 6s or greater that had some serious odor problems. and they're way too cute for anyone to just tell them they smell bad.

It's quite a laugh during the night to see guys come up to her and to wait for the look on their faces when the smell hits them and they make the connection to her. It's this universal look that transcends all cultures and borders which is best summed up by, "Not fair!"

She has to know - when people generally stay away from you, it has to lead to a search for a plausible explanation. Especially in a bar, where some drunk guy probably pointed it out already.

Well, at least she doesn't smell like cheese, fish, poop, or wet dog. Those are the worst.

You should definitely not approach her if you want her to keep coming to your bar. Girls take [censored] way too seriously when it comes to stuff like this and the last thing you want is for her to hold a grudge against you.

I say you should pay someone from out of town to tell her. Just get the message across; state the problem ("you smell") and a solution ("shower plz imo"). You can look at it as a good investment. $10 to a random dude will save you hundreds in lost profits.

Did they just run a marathon? Smelling someone from 5 feet away is pretty serious BO. Maybe it's just me, but I've never met a girl who smells close to that bad.

Serious suggestion though:
Get another regular to go along with this convo. When you are around her, say, "Damn, what's that smell?" He'll say, "Yeah what is that?"

"Hey (smelly girl). Do you smell that too?"

"No, I don't smell anything."

"Weird. I totally smell something horrible."

"Me too." Etc. until she finally gets the point that she smells.

Either that, or just pay a drunk dude $20 to hit on her and then tell her she needs a shower.

I watched a news report recently about people whose bodies naturally give off a really unpleasant odour. It has nothing to do with cleanliness -- the smell is actually coming from inside them. I can't remember the cause, exactly, but it has something to do with how their bodies digest and process food. They can reduce the smell by watching their diets, but the smell will always be there. It's not something that can be washed away or covered up with deodorant. There's very little they can do about it.

On the slim chance that this girl is one of these people, I'd strongly suggest not saying anything to her.

I honestly like the idea of getting some really drunk guy to tell her on a bet or something, if she takes it was bshit from a drunk guy she will still think about it and probarly go home smelling. You probably dont even need a trigger that big, women are usually really sensitive to this kind of [censored], if you plant a seed they can make the biggest plant out of it.

This is basically what I was thinking, I mean, she smells consistently every time? like, she NEVER showers? This seems like more then a cleanliness problem. How is her hair? is it natty, greasy, sticky/shinny looking? this is a pretty good indicator.

Man, having that problem would be the WORST damn problem ever, nobody would EVER want to be near you ever at all. Guess you could be a model or something if you looked good, but, damn.

I would go with the anonymous note. Just make the note look like someone had written it and then taped it shut or something. That way, when she reads it she doesnt feel like you read the note before handing it to her, making the situation more awkward then it is.
