Check/Mucking the Nuts

Quick Last night 1/2 live. I flop top full in five way limped pot and check fold face up with action behind me and storm out of casino.

So I used to play live a lot but I mostly play online now. Now when I do play live I find myself getting really mad when bad players makes retarded moves and win big pots.(even if i'm not involved in the pot)Add that to actually being able to see these players, and listening to their "logic" as to why they had to do this or had to do that, and it tilts me out of control. This even happens if i'm winning.(I was up a bit less than 1/2 of a buyin last night and I could only take it for like an hour before leaving)

What the [censored] is going on?

Its just that watching all the bad play and especially the "logic" first hand makes me feel like I somehow dont deserve to win with a good hand, and that I should be in there sucking out for a huge pot, hence me folding he nuts. Then I get mad that they are making me mad and leave so I dont just lose everything

Play to win money. If you flop top full house in a multiway pot of loose players only to open fold face up, then I'm pretty sure you aren't playing to maximize your EV.

The worse others play, the more +EV the game. Sure, it might have some serious variance, but the EV should be quite large over the long run.

Don't encourage bad players to play better. Don't tap the fish tank and scare off the weak players. Be nice. Say "nice hand" when you lose. Play tight with good position. Value bet good hands. Bluff less. Take their money.

But the main thing is to keep taking more of their money than you're giving away by putting yourself in +EV situations, then letting the cards fall as they may.

I think you need to reexamine your motives at the table. You seem to want to have some kind of intellectual challenge, and you are insulted when you don't have players that can be worthy of your skills in order to make you feel more rewarded when you beat another good player.

That is a bad way to play cards.

Play to win money.

Win the money.

Be nice to the bad players.

Be nice when they get lucky so they like you when they eventually give the money back with interest later in that session, or later in the week, month, or year.

Take their money.

Oh, and when you do find an intellectually challenging table full of players as good as you, then change tables. Why play in a game that is neutral EV? That makes no sense if you have better alternatives.

People like you are why I can't stand playing live poker at even reasonably low stakes. Whiny little nit bitches that make everyone at the table miserable and yell at the fish because they don't understand how poker works. Please go away and never come back.

I was going to let this die but this is ridiculous. I never once said i bitch at or to other players. I in fact do the opposite. I never get mad at them to their faces, or belittle their play. I do not want them to play better, and never once have attempted to teach at the table.

What I said was I get really pissed and it caused me to kind of reverse tilt, making me feel like i deserve to lose. This is why i left the casino. I never once let anyone at the table know i was pissed and certainly never said anything bad to anyone.

I have seen this in live 5/10 NL games. Player mucked top set faceup on a combo-draw flop because he didn't want to get felted.

Folding a set because you don't want to get outdrawn isn't really tilting, it's just being bad and nitty and (probably) playing way above your bankroll. The OP folded a boat because he was tilting, which is completely inexplicable. For me, tilting is like, playing more aggressive and loose, and bluffing too much. Not playing completely illogically and doing things like folding top boat face up. When I'm on tilt flopping top boat with action is a dream spot to lift me right out of my tilt. I just can't understand why you let the table get to you so much that you don't even WANT to win anymore.

If you tilt that ridiculously you really need to quit gambling.

I believe this is the psychological phenomenon known as "biting your nose off to spite your face."

To the OP give yourself some time to distance yourself from the emotion in the incident and look at what you did logically. It should seem completely ridiculous.

OP, I think you would benefit from talking to a mental health professional. The behavior you're describing goes beyond playing bad poker. It's a truly bizarre, irrational response to flopping a nice hand. What you describe is like taking money out of your wallet and setting it on fire, or cooking yourself a nice dinner then throwing it on the floor instead of eating it. Have you had other strange/inappropriate reactions to normal situations?

Well played, but i think you could have played it even better. You should have been minraising a few times on the flop, then folding when somebody puts you all in.

first you should have bet less than the min, waited for the dealer to correct it, then fold.

Re: Check/Mucking the Nuts

obviously he didn't do this. he may have done something close, but no way did he open fold the nuts.
if you really did this, then you don't have what it takes to be a winning poker player. therefore, you getting mad at people for playing badly is hypocritical.

just play some blackjack or something, you won't have to deal with other people's mistakes. plus, the odds are better than playing poker with rake+folding the nuts.
