Proposed Florida Seminole Compact
From the draft compact Part V(L):
"The Tribe shall conduct poker in compliance with all provisions of Florida law, including restrictions on ante and pot amounts. However, each Facility may hold up to 4 poker tournaments per year that are not subject to the limitations/restrictions imposed by Florida law, provided that the net win from each tournament is donated to a charitable organization pursuant to 501(c)(3)." I interpret this section to state that there will be NO increase in limits and/or max buy ins ("all provisions of Florida law"). Do others concur? Also, It's nice to see the carve-out for 4 tourneys. Perhaps we'll see a few major events, but without higher limits, I don't know if the pros will come to play. Re: Proposed Florida Seminole Compact
Correct me if im wrong. Max buy-in for a tourney in Florida is $880.
The Indians are the only ones who can run a tourney for greater than this amount and then only 4 a year so I guess this would be 1 main event and 3 preliminary events >$880 The Indians won't do this because they must donate all money made to charity so what's the point plus their casinos are full now due to the introduction of NLHE so nothing changes. The only gray area I see now is can a cardroom run a multi day tourney? I guess the answer is yes since the Ebro Greyhound is running a 3 day main event but keeping buy in at $870. |
Re: Proposed Florida Seminole Compact
Enough already with the Derby Lane spamming. Nobody asked.

Re: Proposed Florida Seminole Compact
Looks like the latest (10/2) draft is much more favorable to the poker player. While it does not allow higher (than $5) stakes, it conspicuously does NOT include wording about following the state law on buy-ins. I'm curious however about the "hours of operation" rule. Does that mean that the poker room will only be open 12 hours a day, similar to the tracks?

Full text of proposed compact: http://www.sun-sentinel.com/media/ac...0/32951986.pdf [/ QUOTE ] I disagree. The only provisions in Floirida law that limit wagers and pot sizes are specifically the $5 max wager and the $100 max buy in in NL games. This implies they must follow the same rules even though it specifically does not mention $100 max buy in. However if there was no max buy-in then there will be no pot limits (think of $100,000+ pots like what we had July 1st though 5th). Pots are limited by the max buy in. I don't think this is favorable to poker players at all and I am sure the day the Seminole try to spread a NL game without a max buy-in, the pari-mutuels will go court to stop it. |

If I was 19 I'd be shocked. First time in 20 years I'm glad I'm not 19.

Covered Games does not include poker

Re: Proposed Florida Seminole Compact
100 max buy in does no limit the pot at all. after many hours of rebuys at 2/5 nl everyone could have $2000 in front of them and all players go all in and you have a $20,000 pot.

Covered Games does not include poker [/ QUOTE ] This is how I read it too. The only mention of poker in the list of covered games is [ QUOTE ] High stakes poker games as provided in Part V Section L [/ QUOTE ] which I take to mean the 6 high stakes poker tournaments allowed each year above the limit established for the parimutuals. This would also explain the statement on page 14 that [ QUOTE ] the Tribe prohibits entry onto the casino floor of anyone under 18 years of age. [/ QUOTE ] Looks like the age limit will be 18+ on whatever poker is spread on a regular basis, but 21+ on class III games. It also looks as if they're trying to keep calss III games running 24 hrs and just shut down the poker room 12 hrs a day. |

[/ QUOTE ] Of course 100 max buy in limits the pot. Try sitting down at a newly formed table with 100 buy-in and see if you can get a pot larger than $1000. In July, they tried offering poker games without limits to buy-ins and the pari-mutuels cried foul and they stopped offering it. The intent is pretty clear to me and that is the Seminoles must play by the same rules that the pari-mutuel cardrooms play by so they do not have an unfair advantage. Also, you would think the Seminoles would push more for 24 hour cardrooms and not give a crap about the buy-in rule. They make the same drop with a $20,000 pot as they do with a $50 pot. However, shutting down for 12 hours per day will cut their income in half and end their largest competitive advantage. |

"shutting down for 12 hours per day will cut their income in half and end their largest competitive advantage."
Somehow I doubt that they're making the same $ from 2AM-2PM as they are from 2PM-2AM. Although I'd prefer them to be open 24/7. Darin |

Darin [/ QUOTE ] There are many people who enjoy playing in the morning. So maybe they would not lose half but they would lose income. It's stupid that slot machines can run 24 hours and the proposed table games will run 24 hours but a poker room can only open 12 hours. |

Re: Proposed Florida Seminole Compact
I don't like the look of the latest revision(Oct. 4) less hours, no more 5/10? Looks like it will be a while before any changes at this point, between the house, the parimutuals and others could be trouble.
