Ultimatebet continued downtime...Questions

yo,
I'm sorry to post this, but i have tried searches to no avail for meaningful info instead of "i want money" or "their software sucks".

Has anyone heard anything except the "server upgrade" line from UB? I think it may take a while to replace a server, but the silence is odd from a usually communicative website.

If anyone has any info, it'd be good to know. If not, sorry for the post!

Regards,
Pete Harris

Re: Ultimatebet continued downtime...Questions

unfucking real....after working perfectly for an hour or two, i'm sitting in an 8/b game with $40, run it up to $80, then the site goes down again, and it lists me as having LOST the $40

if this sticks i'm [censored] done with UB for good

Re: Ultimatebet continued downtime...Questions

it is odd that UB is having such trouble, I mean i'm guessing it is simply transitional issues, not a 'conspiracy' as most anti-online gaming people will run around shouting.

If you email them and explain, they will credit you - i mean, hand histories must be kept intact somewhere.

Re: Ultimatebet continued downtime...Questions

this cracks me up. i stopped playing on UB about 4 months ago, due to it always being down and the stupid "bet pot" button. but i missed the $40 + $4 tourneys, so 2 days ago i started up again. i sign up for the 6pm $40 + $4 tourney today, and it crashes. what a f'n joke.

6:19pm ET, site is 'closed for repairs'.

Ah well, 80% of my BR is on ice tonight, so i may just go to bed early. Bless em.

Re: Ultimatebet continued downtime...Questions

This happened to me last night. I got an e-mail saying that the chips our table were "frozen" until they could look into it. Everything checked out and they posted the money I had at the table back to my account.

On the other hand I just got to heads up in an SnG and the sites now gone down completely.

It would be really nice if they could make some kind of statement before they lose all credibility.

Re: Ultimatebet continued downtime...Questions

Whatever the hell UB is doing, it is horrid. Any downtime over a 12 hour period is unreal. I have been playing on UB since 2003 but once it is finally back up I am going to send support a long email how this is BS. Though the only response I will probably get is "We apologize, blah blah blah, upgrade, blah, striving to make your experience better, blah blah"

Peter Harris 03-02-2006 07:25 PM

Re: Ultimatebet continued downtime...Questions

it's not 12 hrs now, it's at least 3 days since i had no trouble getting into UB. That's why the silence is so odd, they should have dozens of email staff saying "sorry sorry it's just servers!"

It's the lack of reassurance that is odd for a usually solid CS site.

UB...

The best software on the net.

And the worst software on the net.

I think you have to give UB a break. They have not been down like this for a long long time. They must be going through a major upgrade and looks like it took longer than they thought. There about 20 sites out there, why not just play there for a while. This is the only site I play on. It will be a good break for me to other things.

This is the only site where I'm currently ITM in a Sit and Go and can't get back in because it's down for repairs.

FWIW, I got an email from them yesterday (without emailing them myself) apologizing for the downtime and assuring me that my funds are safe.

They are not a usually solid CS site, at least not in the long view. When I played there regularly in 2002-2004, they were always going down or lagging horrendously because of server problems.

Yesterday, they sent me an email with no text and two attachments. I'm assuming that this was the email that other people got with logs of their transaction history before the server maintenence, but I can't believe any business would expect someone to open attachments in an email with no text.

I had just started dabbling on UB again for the first time in a few years, but I'll be withdrawing it all again as soon as they are back up and running.

A site like UB should not go down like this. They have been in business way too long to not have their act together by now.

This is the first time i have had any trouble with UB. I started having problems at like 4:30 and played about 3 hands in each of the 3 SNG's I was playing, i have been playing here for over 3 years and think its the best fastest softawre out there. All i know is that if i dont get my money back......good bye UB

No company ever plans to have an upgrade that lasts more than 2-3 hours, maybe a bit longer in hard cases. Their initial announcement at the tables 2 days ago was for '2-3 hours' till they are back to normal. Instead they were down for about 18-19 hours straight - no explanation ever given. And now they are up/down/barely working - no way any of this was ever planned, it pretty obvious things went wrong in a major, major way and I am sure they are now in a panic mode trying all sort of things to stabilize the situation.

The fact that all prior transaction history has disappeared from the client interface makes it very likely that some sort of database migration was involved, perhaps they also migrated to a new server-side software and just didn't do enough testing beforehand to ensure performance won't suffer. I always liked their client, especially the miniview mode, but it looks their server side team could use some serious help.

At the moment I can't get to a table. Just stays on the "Connecting to table..." message. I've waited 5+ minutes, and tried different games/tables, with no luck. SnGs appear to be working, but I'm afraid to try getting into one.
