Family Guy: Star Wars

I'm twenty minutes in and having trouble breathing. This may be the best thing to ever come out of either franchise. Anyone else watching?

seriously? This episode is awful. Not really a surprise though as 9 out of 10 Family Guy episodes suck now.

I'll watch later during halftime maybe. Saw 10 minute preview online and laughed at most of it.

Yeah, family guy is just not very funny. Comedy central should be re-airing the relevant south park now.

I lost my taste for it after the renewal, but the adverts for this one drew me in and it has me hurting. May just be a generational thing.

You may be right, I suppose this might be funnier if you grew up when stars wars originally came out.

ok, don't know if it's this thread as a reality check or the show itself, but my euphoria's gone.

only line I laughed at was the vacation cameo. Stuff like the magic johnson scene was brutally bad.

Re: Family Guy: Star Wars

That's the only time I've ever watched more than about five minutes of Family Guy and I found three funny things:

1. Orchestra doing People's Court
2. Dr. Who reference including Tom Baker
3. Evil Death Star music as elevator music

I may have missed a bunch of specific Family Guy humor including specifics on character choice. But I've never found that show funny.

i caught a few minutes of it, and while I haven't liked much at all of the new Family Guy stuff, I got a huge kick out of "trippy hyperspace"

then i went back to football.

R2 busting a cap gangsta style was pretty funny. The rest, meh, not so much.

The Robot Chicken arguement at the end had me laughing.

Orchestra doing The People's Court and for some reason Greedo got me giggling.

The bar scene w/ the band asking for any requests was pretty funny, but it just dragged on w/ too much flying around in space w/ nothing happening...just like the real star wars.

Re: Family Guy: Star Wars

First 5 minutes or so were decent. Went straight downhill beginning with the Bush/Cheney bumper sticker.

There were a few funny parts throughout the rest, but they try too hard to work in gages or jokes.

Magic Johnson stuff was terrible. The 5 minutes they spent on the couch was terrible. The orchestral stuff was terrible. The Robot Chicken convo at the end was terrible. The Rush Limbaugh stuff was terrible. Everything with C3PO was terrible. The R2 stuff was terrible.

The Vader stuff was mostly amusing. The creepy old guy stuff was mostly amusing.

Biggest laugh was the text at the beginning

Still not nearly as bad as last season though.

Re: Family Guy: Star Wars

I agree that ~1/2 of the jokes are bad. But there's so many of them that 50% is pretty good. This episode was better than average, IMO.

edit: the opening bit where the announcers are talking about Mickelson's wife is brilliant.

I laughed hard twice:

"Well, stay here and rot, you stuck up bitch."

"Red October, standing by."

That's it.

the robot chicken stuff at the end was great imo

Re: Family Guy: Star Wars

I'm a huge fan of the original trilogy - I'm old enough to have seen them all in the theatre. I also occasionally find the Family Guy pretty fun so I was stoked for this episode.

Watched it with my wife and we were both bored to tears. The Star Wars satire was weak and the jokes were obvious. All the good Family Guy stuff (ie. Brian/Stuey interactions) was missing.

The only time I chuckled was when Stuey thinks his men are idiots for leaving the vent open on the Death Star when covering it would make the station indestructible - "Ummm. Do you think we could put some plywood over that?" More of that kind of stuff would have been good.

Re: Family Guy: Star Wars

This was significantly less funny than the Robot Chicken episode(and also reused the "thai=tie" joke, which is weird, because it sucked in both), so it was weird that they mentioned it. It's incredible that they managed to cut a movie down into 44 minutes and still managed to find a ton of time for filler.

Red October was funny, pretty much all of the stuff that just involved soldiers from the Empire was funny(railing conversation, the guy putting his arm around the other guy, Death Star design flaw), the opening scroll was funny, and the one armed architect was funny...

Everything else sucked really, really hard. I'm not a massive Star Wars or Family Guy fan, but I'm enough of each to think that I was in the target market for this.

Re: Family Guy: Star Wars

It could have been so much better. There were a few decently funny lines, but like most FG episodes nowadays, several jokes went on f-o-r-e-v-e-r and sucked the life out of the episode.

Re: Family Guy: Star Wars

there were multiple great parts to this, tho it wasn't the best hour of tv or even best hour of star wars spoofing...

text at beginning
buffering/realplayer/etc bit with r2d2
orchestra playing people's court
hole in deathstar; get estimates, etc
red october (most of other 'red' jokes were bad, but i guess they set it up for this one)
limp light saber
judging/kabala

I'm a huge Family Guy fan, and I didn't find this particularly interesting or amusing. Some decent lines, and the scrolling text at the beginning was great, but otherwise meh. Found myself channel surfing pretty quickly.
