i worked for a healthcare-related temp hiring agency over the summer, and it seemed like a lot of people bitched about how over-worked they are.

my question is how often are ambulance related rides pointless? as in people calling for an ambulance for a bloody nose or something instead of an ACTUAL emergency. and does everyone who uses an ambulance, even for legitimate reasons, have to pay?

I don't know. Don't really have the statistics on that. As for if everyone has to pay, I'd assume it's like any other medical type billing. Insurance, etc. Don't really know. EMT's aren't involved in that end.

I don't really knokw. You seem to be asking how many are not emergencies? Again I don't have the stats. And it can be tough to gauge if your having a real emergency or not. I mean you can risk looking like a sissy, or risk dying on a bus.

No, I haven't. But I have watched some of the reality shows on tv. And have thought about becoming one. Any more questions? Other than how many calls aren't emergencies.

When it's been analyzed it's estimated 61% of calls were not actual medical emergencies. This depends largely on the area.

Some people make these calls for attention. Some because they do not have transportation or do not really understand the purpose. And a lot are people who freaked themselves out and genuinely believed they had an emergency. It's very common for someone having a panic attack to believe they are having a heart attack.

Incorrect. It fails because you failed to answer the simplest question. When you tried to answer it you had some kind of random response about statistics, or some [censored]. It's an easy question and obviously very common. Yet by some stretch you manage to even [censored] up the most mundane question.

my dad had to use an ambulance once or twice for legitimate reasons, we got a bill for like ~500-750 for each trip. I forget what it was based on, i think it was level of service needed in the ambulance + some other junk like miles, etc. There was a process for asking for the bill to be reduced, but i think our insurance did ok covering it.

We don't want numbers, we want stories. One would suffice. Surely you've had at least one case where you thought WTF why am I helping this clown instead of tending to a real emergency?

Obv. I do see where you are coming from with the dying on the bus argument - so it would have to be something really stupid, like someone scratched his knee on the pavement or sth like that. If you haven't had cases like that, just say that.
