The Mouth\'s recent online foray\'s?

Every time i've logged into Full Tilt in the last couple of days, Matusow has been there, putting in long hours in the 25/50NL game, often on 2 or 3 tables at once. Anybody have any idea how he's been doing?

he should have someone take his computer away from him.

I have officially decided he is a High Stakes whale from what I have seen. I bet you never see him sitting at an empty table. This only goes for online.

Every time I've seen him, he's been up 1-4 buy-ins. Probably seen him online five different times in the last three days.

He's not allowed to buy-in over the table max, right? So, he's making some money at least. Juanda has been on a bit in the last couple days too.

Re: The Mouth\'s recent online foray\'s?

ive seen him blow through 100k in less than 4 hrs one morning a little while agao at the bellagio and leave empty handed.

The very night before he also took a big hit playing 400-800 ceasars big game.

All the while he was basking in the attention of other people and players recognizing him and requesting autographs, and getting the celebrity treatment.

Discipline or knowing when to walk away didnt seem to be his strength. But then, when u are a poker celebrity and receive all this attention, how would it look if you went down in limits or didnt take on the best in any given room....too much pride and ego at stake to change.

Re: The Mouth\'s recent online foray\'s?

Dropping 12 buyins and then making 2 back does not mean you're making money.

Re: The Mouth\'s recent online foray\'s?

I play in the Full Tilt games with Mike. He just started playing again this past week.

About 2-3 months ago he would play some 25/50 and he would just get destroyed. He was just a complete donk.

This past week he has been playing much better and I he is definitely winning now. But his wins recently are no where close to making up for the overall loses I have seen him have.

Re: The Mouth\'s recent online foray\'s?

hes obviously playing while tilting/losing his focus, and exercising terrible game selection

he understands the game instincitively very very well, but he doesnt know ANY of the math behind the game and is basically a moron with a great poker sense

how could he NOT dominate or be dominated? he has no fundamentals to fall back on, only his feel

when his feel is dead, hes the biggest fish in the pond ;-)

btw mark this post, this is the effect of a little mj in the morning when you walk your dog ;-)

Re: The Mouth\'s recent online foray\'s?

Mike seems to have a lot in common with Stu Ungar:

1. Great tournment player
2. terrible cash game player
3. Jewish
4. likes coke

Re: The Mouth\'s recent online foray\'s?

Seems to be ripping it up at the 10/20 NL game this week ... He should definetely stay there instead of blowing all his $ at the 25/50 NL and 50/100 NL tables as I've seen him do basically every time he's sat down. I just still don't comprehend how someone can have that much disrespect for $ ... guess his high is just gambling and not so much winning the $ ...

Re: The Mouth\'s recent online foray\'s?

He is crushing the 10/20 today. He is sitting at one table with 12K and another one with 11K. And another with 3K. From what I have seen, he is on a serious rush and playing very very good poker.

WTF is going on here. This is the third post I have read in the past few days associating being Jewish with poker playing ability. (see zeejustin mega thread and the Gabe Kaplan is a racist thread) Will you morans knock it off. The linking of a specific religion and poker is absurd.

What the hell are you talking about, he's not saying either Matusow or Ungar are good because they're Jewish.

Dude, he linked being Jewish as a common trait among similar people. People really need to improve their reading comprehension.

Jewish as in ethnicity. Not religion.

There are a lot of good black basketball players.
There are a lot of good russian swimmers.
There are a lot of good Asian video game players.
There are a lot of good Jewish poker players.

Are any of these statements a) invalid, b) racist c) prejudiced in any way?

Re: The Mouth\'s recent online foray\'s?

I've datamined a fair bit of Mike this week, and after several thousand hands I have him at about -4k, but obviously I've missed quite a bit. Though each time he has a stack of 6 or 8k he has dumped a couple of buy-ins to get there. Of course, playing more or less break-even poker is better than he usually plays.

I played with Mike in the 25/50 game for about 300 hands.

He dropped 3.5 buy ins.

This just in: He is still trash.

Re: The Mouth\'s recent online foray\'s?

id say he just needs to spend some time with pokertracker, supersystems % tables, and the pokerstove/cardplayer hand matchup program
why do you think TOP would do much for him? i think he understands the theory instinctively, just not the underlying math? i dont remember much math from TOP, just the extrapolation of math into the general theory

essentially the primary principle and the game theory section are what held lasting value for me personally, maybe i should reread it also!

Re: The Mouth\'s recent online foray\'s?

Well, I played with him last night at the 10-20 tables, and he was playing great. very TAG at the 6max games and winning big. I kept waiting for him to blow up, but it never happened... oh well.

Re: The Mouth\'s recent online foray\'s?

Just a frustrated observation that suddenly religion (and noting that someone is Jewish is a reference to a religion) is being injected into poker discussions. I am not offended or angry or pi**ed off or anything else. I just believe that there is no reason to bring religion into poker. I do not see any relationship between any religion and poker. I have not seen any discussion of Catholic, Unitarian, Shinto (sp) or Hindu players so I am perplexed as to why a players religous background is now a hot topic of discussion.

Besides, just to satisfy my curiosity, would you care to expand on your comment of "there are a lot of good Jewish poker players" with additional information such as: a definition of good, a list of players who are Jewish (and how you know this - just because the last name may be Schwartz or Cohen doesn't count), a analysis of what percentage of good players are Jewish relative to the percentage of Jews in the general population and explain the relationship between being Jewish and being a good poker player.

Ansky, while I respect your posts in the MTT forum and your hand analysis ability, I don't understand what the above post is trying to prove and I don't believe how much time I am spending getting involved in these discussions.

My point is that people make blatent generalizations about races and religions all the time that aren't necessarily harmful. As a Jew I was not offended by whoever said that stu ungar- matusow comparison. If you were to break down the demographics of winning poker players, I imagine a higher percentage of Jews are winning players than losing players than many other ethnic groups. It's for the same reason that Jews tend to be well educated, and tend to do well for themselves. Having a good family background, and an inclination towards education would logically lead someone towards making themselves a better poker player. Is anything I have said off base?

suzzer99 03-03-2006 04:44 PM

Re: The Mouth\'s recent online foray\'s?

No one made any generalizations about Jews being good poker players. But I am about to make a generalization about your reading comprehension. The poster compared similar qualities between Matusow and Ungar.

So I guess by this logic, he is also implying coke-heads are good poker players. As a coke-head I resent this implication. Some of us are terrible poker players.

Re: The Mouth\'s recent online foray\'s?

all: part of the poker math he doesn't understand is pretty obvious. You will see many hands where someone pots he cold calls, another 2 or 3 cold calls, and big blind repots again. Then mike calls the huge repot here he and is putting in 25% of his effective stack in preflop with a very marginal hand (ie. not KK+).
