Kid Nation better be awesome.

i've been hypnotized by the excessive advertising during NFL games and i'm ready to embark on a magical journey into the lives of 40 kids for 40 days in a ghost town. this show better rock.

but will it? and in a good way or a this is pathetically awesome way?

I feel like this will be totally compelling yet totally painful to watch so I'm going to avoid. I'm not sure that I can cope with that much talking from kids. Kids are dumb.

Re: Kid Nation better be awesome.

This show would be more appealing if I didn't know that the producers of most reality shows are behind the scenes orchestrating everything. It's not like these kids will actually be out there on their own without adults.

sounds like another case of cool idea which will fail miserably.

Just read Lord of the Flies for a more visceral and entertaining experience.

If there was even the slightest chance of the kids butchering one another, I'd be glued to my TV.

I will be watching and hoping that they fail, are miserable, and maybe a few of them learn how to not by whiny little brats.

This will suck so bad, I will watch the first episode just to verify

Re: Kid Nation better be awesome.

As a kid I used to watch kids programming, and I thought it sucked. During all of Nickelodeon's "Wet Wild and Crazy Kid's" show's (the Wet was added later) I used to root for the adults. I also never liked "You Can't do that on Television" becuse I thought the humor was really piss poor. I suspect I might like it now from an ironic point of view.

ps. I don't know if this has anything to do with the OP

Best part of previews:

"The person that I'm missing the most is my brother (sniffle sniffle), 'cause he's in a wheelchair."
(cue the kids going around him for a group hug)

INSTANT CLASSIC!

even in the previews, these kids are acting way too composed for kids like them in that kind of situation. i can't stand watching doctored television

I know the last thing anyone wants is to debate the ethics of this show, but the release they had the parents of the kids sign is really unbelievable. You can read it here. And honestly, I don't personally care what other people do with their kids so I guess it's their deal, but signing that release in the hope that your kid might somehow end up on TELEVISION ZOMG! amazes me.

Amazing what people will do to get on the TV.

LFS,

Anyone who watched "Showbiz Moms and Dads" would not be shocked at all by that. The things some parents do to live vicariously through their children is absolutely insane.

JasonK 09-19-2007 08:28 PM

You sure they're not licking vicariously through their children?

Re: Kid Nation better be awesome.

This show was pretty good for the first 15 minutes. Then they divided them into teams, and had a challange, and it was just another reality show. It would have been better if they just took 40 kids, and dumped them in a ghost town with no instructions, then filmed what happens.

I also don't like the way the host talks down to the kids.

This is almost word-for-word what I said before the first commercial break. Imagine a whiny kid's voice and then add a Boston accent. Impossible to listen to.

Jesus. I'd rather hear the death rattle of all 40 before hearing a whiny kid with a Boston accent.

This show is terrible but I'm gonna keep watching it anyway. At least that gold star chick is impressive, much smarter and more mature than most adults. I hate everyone else.

this show is awesome, its everything every government has done wrong in the last 5,000 years. they arbitrarily distribute power and let people leave whenever they want. the people they put in charge are smart but have no leadership skills. they let people leave whenever they want, which will obviously result in the people with [censored] jobs leaving, therefore creating a top heavy upper class. the kids who are in charge are not the oldest, so the oldest kids will be upset that they are not in charge. i am really really hoping for a coup or a revolt or something

I watched it but since it's not in HD (are any CBS reality shows in HD?) I prolly wont be watching it again.

I wanted to punch the kid Greg in the face and was disappointed that the 8 yr old kid (Jimmy?)quit.

In hindsight there never was a "Wet" added to the title and when I clicked on this thread I thought I had never read it before I got to my post which I had no recollection of making due to my drunken state at the time.

The best part about this admission is that the post you're referring to was made at 1:30PM Eastern Time on a Wednesday.

My 10 yr old and 12 yr old taped the show, but none of us have seen it.

Who is the target audience for this? Is there any reason why I should not want my kids to watch this (aside from just generally polluting their minds)?

If you don't mind them seeing graphic minor on minor sex and some dancing for money, I wouldn't be worried.

The show was painful to watch. My wife liked it though. Gold Stars for everyone who watched it all the way through.

Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares was awesome though.

Re: Kid Nation better be awesome.

i just watched on dvr and a couple thoughts come to mind:

1a) the kids that get no air time must be pissed. i'd say i feel bad, but i dont. obviously if you just do your thing and dont create any controversy being edited out is the end result, but with 40...now 39...kids, i'd be shocked if we ever really know more than 10 people beyond their names if even that.

1b) obvious racism as the black kids got no love and the only time we see them they are either hurt or arguing.

2) the girl that won the star made $3 dancing. if she can convince these kids to waste their income on something that dumb, we're in trouble. and what use is that bike anyway?

3) i too was pissed it so quickly turned into a challenge/team based reality show. obviously it will be a little different, but back in 1885, u couldnt just acquire 7 more outhouses by having a man from the future show up and host a competition.

4) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbewgsMCZ...soda%2Dvideo%2F

5) i was hoping for more great kid one liners but kids stop being awesomely funny by the time they are 10 and they arent showing many interviews with the younger kids so i doubt i'll get my wish.

He was referring to Sophia. The yellow team leader is named Taylor I think and I can already tell I hate her when she said "I'm a beauty queen so I'm not gonna do any work." You're frickin' 10 years old kid.

Greg is the man, I don't know what you're talking about. He showed genuine concern for Jimmy and seemed more gracious in defeat than I thought he'd be. I was disappointed he didn't punch Mike instead of just pushing him. Mike seems like he might be mildly retarded, I hope he's ousted as council member soon, and I think he will be. That other weird kid who can't talk on Mike's team has probably eaten a ton of paint chips and glue.

The only thing that would have been cool about this show is if the oldest kid 15(wtf, he looks 22) with braces from the blue team punched the 10 year old in the mouth.
