Ultimate Fighters All Have

...cauliflower ears, caused by blood building up between skin and cartilage after repeated battery. These guys should have to wear head gear all the time.

aren't those built-up areas prone to tearing off, leaving even worse mangling?

danvh showed us that they are. I've heard they could reduce the swelling by having a doctor drain the blood once swelling begins, but people rarely go to have that done.

Re: Ultimate Fighters All Have

Yeah. Soon after they start swelling they can be drained (and in my opinion should be drained). If they are drained and cleaned out, they stay pretty much normal. However many fighters feel their cauliflower ears are like a badge of honor.

Wrestlers get this all the time too. A buddy who wrestled in college told me that they would just drain their own ears with sterile needles provided by the trainers. Apparently it's not that big of a deal. There too some of the guys were convinced this was some badge of honor and never drained.

Like every single character in "The Ultimate Fighter" TV show.

My jiu jitsu instructor had those. I thought it was just a birth defect or something

If they aren't drained they just harden up. It's not just blood but like a clear fluid, I've got a little bit of one on my right ear in a spot where they couldn't drain it well but you can't really notice it unless someone points it out.

And it's not a big deal.
