Panic withdrawals depleted my bankroll

Just curious if anyone else does this. Basically after a two week stretch of playing/running bad, I get really nervous that I am playing above my head and withdrawal a chunk of my online roll. After chopping the 55k in January for $7k i had $13.5k in my online account. Now I have $600 in my account. During the last nine months since my cash in the 55k, I acually profited almost $2k, but I keep withdrawing money every time I have an MTT downstreak or a bad couple sessions of STTs. Then I win a little bit back, but then go on another downstreak and withdraw again.

Does anyone else do this or am I the only one?

I keep in my account what I need to play and won't withdraw below that amount.

I did this when UIGEA came out.. withdrew to 1k. Then I just played NL200 on stars and turned it into a billion. Now I keep like 100 BIs online for the largest cash games I play.

i keep 100 buyins for whatever biggest tourney I play. If it's in my bank account i have a tredmendous urge to buy stuff with it if i go anywhere that sells stuff and I have my debit card, but not rly if it's in my poker account.

But yeah I always keep all of my roll online, and do the opposite of what you do. If I go on a downswing I think I'm playing over my head so I deposit a few grand more. If I keep losing I keep depositing and take out mortgages etc. just to ensure I'm not playing over my head. I have over 20 million online right now and have lost close to 6 million. But I know I'm not over my head because of how much I have online.

Leave my roll online. Withdraw 1/2 my winnings at specific intervals (October is my anniversary with the girlfriend so I'll probably withdraw to handle the cost of that. Next after that will probably be thanksgiving week in order to buy gifts for christmas.

That's right, the entire purpose of my poker playing is to have a hobby that supports the costs of having a long term girlfriend.

Just play comfortably rolled for the games you want to play and there will be no problem.

Withdrawal is a noun. It is strange that you seemed to know this when writing the subject of your post, but then forgot it when writing the body of your post.

I do this all the time, it is so terrible, but 1 bad week and im like ok gotta withdraw. Im up like 90k this yr in tnys and still playing 11 rebuys soooo weak, it sucks bc u never allow urself to move up, but it is something that is sooooo hard to break. GL

Re: Panic withdrawals depleted my bankroll

Not out of panic, but just because I like spending money, I've taken out around $25k. This was fine when I was running hot for the first year of playing MTTs and I had some nice holidays. I kind of regret it now. I'm very tight about depositing and thus it's taken three months to build my Stars roll up from $0.50 and 4500 FPPs to $1k, playing much less than I used to.

Obviously, in terms of furthering our poker career, withdrawing large chunks of a BR because you don't 'get' variance is a very bad idea. OTOH, spending $25k of tax free moolah on holidays and flatcreen tellies etc. is kind of fun so I don't really have any regrets. That said, it's been an important lesson to learn that playing really, really well and trying really really hard doesn't mean that you're going to win every MTT you enter - which was how it seemed when I started.
