The Office Season 4 Premiere 9/27

I just ripped through the S3 DVDs, watching a few episodes, all the deleted scenes, and some other bonus materials, so I'm excited for the S4 premiere.

No spoilers here, although I'm included the first episode preview below in white text. Again, NO SPOILERS, but S4 speculation encouraged. Here are some ideas I have:

We find out David Wallace offered Jim the job but he turned it down, due to Pam of course. No idea where else the Jim & Pam thing is going. We all want to see them together, but is the show as entertaining if they are? Not sure.

I think the Michael and Jan thing has run it's course. I'd be okay with her being gone. And Michael should definitely be on hard times financially or with his living situation, after taking on Jan for some period of time and after "selling" his condo. Maybe he could live in the barn on the beet farm!

Ryan as Michael's boss--quite a bit of potential for funny in that.

Time for a Stanley episode. We had Kelly's celebration and Phyllis' wedding. In fact, we could use a Toby episode as well. Get him a love interest so we can see another side of him.

I have more but I already sound like a crazed fanatic.

Here's the episode preview:

THE RUN FOR THE CURE-SPECIAL ONE-HOUR PREMIERE - A freak accident causes Michael (Golden Globe winner Steve Carell) to feel the office is cursed. He explores the religious beliefs of his employees before deciding to hold a charity 5K fun run. Meanwhile, further developments in the romances of Pam (Jenna Fischer) and Jim (John Krasinski), and Dwight (Rainn Wilson) and Angela (Angela Kinsey) are explored. B.J. Novak, Melora Hardin, Ed Helms, Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner, Kate Flannery, Oscar Nunez, Phyllis Smith, Paul Lieberstein, Mindy Kaling, Craig Robinson and Creed Bratton also star.

throw in a kevin episode too. he's my favorite. but yea this season should be good as there will be a lot of supersized episodes i believe as scrubs wont be on the thursday night lineup all the time as its a shortened season so a lot of the office drama will see the time of day it needs. and there should be a few laughs in there as well.

Kevin is great in his current dosage, more would be too much.

Creed is where it's at.

it's my understanding that the first 4 episodes this season will be hour-long.

lol - did not know that Creed Bratton was the actor's name and that he's playing a "fictionalized version of himself".

Creed spin-off ftw.

Obviously I'm excited, but didn't Vehn post all of this when the Season 3 finale thread was bumped?

I'm thinking of getting a TV basically for this, It's Always Sunny, and football. Justifiable?

I was not subscribed to cable television all summer, and subscribed for these shows plus maybe 1 or 2 others. Football season alone is worth it for me.

Actually I would not pay for cable if you don't have it for it's always sunny. I would just download them later on.

Extended versions of the summer promo at nbc. Ryan's & Creeds are awesome. Jim looks a little self satisfied if you know what I mean.

I was going for some speculation. Also, that thread is for the finale of Season 3.

Unrelated: Nath, I just saw the Will F. skit your avatar relates to and oh my god, it is hilarious. What am I, 10 years late?

I love the office just as anyone else, but does anyone feel last season's episodes starting turning into more of a soap opera and less of a sitcom?

Since you watched all three seasons in a short period of time, you'd probably be best to ask this question. Did you notice a big change in Michael's characher from seasons 1&2 to season 3?

its pretty easy to speculate that jim got offered the job and turned it down because of pam. i think the "is the show as entertaining if they're together" thing is most definitely yes. The best part of the show was jim and pam's funny interactions in season 1 and season 2 which were lost in season 3, and I definitely think 3 was only weaker for it.

It might be too simple and too much if it just ends up being "well jim and pam are now dating, jim turned down the job to be with pam". i'm kind of expecting and hoping for something more complicated than this. The Jim + Pam relationship is the foundation of the show and I think they will have a hard time screwing that up for at least 2-3 seasons, unless they let the relationship die off too much, which i think they were in danger of doing in season 3.

I think Season 2 was consistently better than Season 3, although Season 3 had a couple of episodes that were just off the charts (Big Gay Witch Hunt being my favorite of the series).

Re: The Office Season 4 Premiere 9/27

Do Gervais and Merchant have any input into the show anymore? Just from reading the synopsis it sounds like it has veered hugely away from their idea of what 'The Office is meant to be - a 'Mockumentary' rather than another broad sitcom.

skunkworks 09-14-2007 07:41 PM

Re: The Office Season 4 Premiere 9/27

I don't think Gervais and Merchant really had much input to start, so it's kind of a moot point. The US version is what it is, but I hope they ratchet up the awkward/offensive office moments in S4 and cut back a bit on the melodrama.

I wouldn't call it a big change. I'd call it zooming in. We got a little deeper into him, and he matured about 5%. Home ownership, serious relationship, branch almost closing are all events that cause a person to change and I don't think the character's change was outside what would be normal for someone going through all that.
