At what age do you not need to bring ID to buy alcohol?

I think i may have phrased my title wrong but the law states that no store can sell alcohol to anyone under the age of 21 years old. I see a sign on 7/11 that says if you look under 27, you need to have ID with you. I just turned 21 and when i bought alcohol i showed ID because i hate paying and them asking for ID. I take ID and cash out before i get to the register.

I know that if you look old enough then you probably dont need but at what age did you guys not need to bring ID to buy alcohol? I know the law requires the store and bar owners to enforce it very strictly. Of course your appearance would count a lot too.

Do any of you guys who are 25 and up still get carded to buy alcohol sometimes? I am 21 and my face looks around there but I might even look younger to most people. I am asian by the way. Are there any of you guys who are underage or around 21 22 but never have been asked for ID when you were buying alcohol?

I'm 29 and I get carded everywhere but restaurants and places where they know me. I have gray hair for [censored] sake.

there is no law per se (not always true depending on the city), its more of a store policy thing, Ive seen it as high as 35 before. I still get carded once in awhile, if Im buying liquor and dressed like a bum

I'm getting asked less and less lately, and I'm only 23. I don't look significantly older.

The alcohol control boards in some areas conduct stings (errr, ummm, excuse me, "test the compliance practices of licensees by sending mature-looking 19 year old guys in to try to buy liquor"). Policies such as "We Card Anyone Who Isn't Using a Walker" are one direct result of that.

I'm 32 and starting to go grey, and I still get carded about half of the time. Hardly ever in nice bars and restaurants, but pretty often in divier bars and liquor stores.

Re: At what age do you not need to bring ID to buy alcohol?

Its weird sometimes. When i buy alcohol in restaurants i dont get carded. Nor do i get asked for ID when i play at the casino. I do dress more nicer though. But last time i went to buy lotto when i was 20, the guy asked me something. I thought he asked if I wanted quickpick but then he said how old are you? In my mind i was like wtf.

Do any of you guys 25 and older also get asked for ID to buy cigs or lotto? I get annoyed when this happens but not for alcohol probably because i just turned 21.

I turned 29 today and got carded for a rated R movie about 3 weeks ago. I asked for a student ticket, and they asked for ID. No biggie, and I showed him my EMU id. He responded that he needed to see my drivers license. My response was, WTF!?!?!?!?!? Sure, buddy, here you go. He thanked me and gave me my ticket. Again, WTF! It doesn't bother me one way or another, just a little inconvienent at times.

From a different point of view. If it was my job on the line, and the huge fines from the liquor control board, I would be carding a TON of people.

at this point, Im asking if he thought that I faked my student ID, and inquiring if they have problems with people trying to save 3$.

I doubt that he thought my ID was fake, EMU id's are pretty popular. My guess is that he got yelled at and/or was on probation for selling tickets to minors. So he was just being extra extra careful. And I do look younger, than my age. Im sure it didn't help that I had shaved that afternoon and had on a hat to hide my quickly receding hairline. AHHHH WELL, it didn't bother me one way or another. Though my date that evening thought it was pretty funny.

For the purposes of this question, girls shouldn't count, especially not at bars.

lol I got carded at Superbad too. I looked at him and said "seriously?" and he said yeah and I laughed and showed him and then he gave me my ticket and I went inside and paid $16 for popcorn and two drinks. It was insane.

Re: At what age do you not need to bring ID to buy alcohol?

slightly off topic, but when I was 20, I used my real ID and it worked the majority of the time. Having a December birthday and confidence helps for this- it worked out-of-state almost as well.

Now I'm 26 and don't get carded too much, but it definitely depends on the type of place and whether or not I've shaved recently.

A couple of months ago though I was at the grocery store with my girlfriend (whos in her 30s) and helping her load the groceries onto the conveyor, and they wanted to see my ID even though she was paying- I didn't have my wallet on me. Fortunately the manager was more reasonable than the cashier.

I think I would be upset if I was ever asked for ID to see a movie.

.......yeah, I also like to dress more nicer when I go to restaurants and casinos.

But anyway, I'm 23 and I would say I look about my age or younger and I now get carded about half the time. Nice restaurants etc. it's never a problem.....but I also almost got carded going into Superbad, they had that thing locked down hardcore...I bet tons of high school kids were trying to get into that movie. They carded some guy in front of me who was clearly of age and clearly on a date and I thought it was hilarious and just glad it wasn't me.

My favorite is the sign that says we card people under 35(or whatever) if you can tell when somebody is under 35, why cant you tell if they are under 21.

If you try to card everyone who is under 35, and in some cases, your age guess is off by a few years, you'll still catch all minors.

Not the case if you try to card everyone who is under 21 and in some cases you guess wrong.

Fascinating huh? (I hope I just didn't get leveled.)

Apparently TN just passed some ridiculous law requiring clerks at grocery stores (gas station type places too, maybe) to card for all beer sales. People are stupid.

I am 40 and got carded a month ago. I guess I should take it as a compliment, but it seems fairly ridiculous at my age. The kid who asked for my id could have been my son.

Re: At what age do you not need to bring ID to buy alcohol?

My uncle is damn near 70, with a gray beard, and still gets carded cause of stupid laws.

Up at school, I rarely, if ever get carded. Just this weekend a dude at the door of the big bar at school got remanded for IDing me (more of a "yea, dont ID him, hes good). Just thought it was funny, and its also not a huge brag cause its a small college town.

My dad got carded at chipotle. He's 55.

I almost never get carded although one [censored] at 7-11 carded me one day. It was like the 7th time i'd been in there and he didn't card me the first 6. Not sure wtf is up with that. Maybe they'd just been busted in a sting or something.

Never been carded. Basicly, everybody can get booze everywere and everytime. The consequence is that you see a lot of 14 year old sleeping it of on the sidewalk at 5 pm when they boozed up right after school.
