Poker Magazines

I searched to see what comments have been made lately but I couldn't find any.

Are there any good poker magazines now? I have not seen Card Player in a magazine shop or bookstore for months. The last time I saw it was at a casino in Vegas and it was very thin, but free of course. All In is half blackjack. I haven't seen Bluff in a while.

Are any worth subscribing to?

Agree Cardplayer is the best around. Go to Amazon.com and pick up a years subscription for $20 as I did.

CardPlayer is the way to go, but I have to admit that I am liking Bluff a lot too right now, even though the title is lame.

Definitely and your articles are the best Phil.

I used to really like CardPlayer but the quality seems to have fallen drastically in the past year. Bluff has blown by them lately.

Bluff has become a good magazine, the only one to rival CardPlayer.

Galfond's articles are very good, plus ones from Brandon Adams, etc.

Re: Poker Magazines

Cardplayer is still the best for me, but it has gone downhill.

All-In actually isn't bad if you have any interest in Blackjack. It is by far the best-designed poker magazine, and has some worthwhile content.

I can see why people say Bluff has gotten much better. It would probably be my favorite magazine were I a 19-year old internet player. It has some very good strategy article, but the lay-out of the magazine is horrible and some of the "lifestyle" articles are so juvenile they make me want to vomit.

Poker Pro (the other magazine I've seen enough issues of to comment on) is horrible and has nothing to recommend.

Thanks for all the opinions. I decided on Cardplayer, although it seems that the Amazon $20 special is gone. I didn't realise that it was published twice a month, so that makes up for it being a slim magazine.

You can get it for $19.95 here: http://www.bonusmags.com/card_player.html

I expect other magazine sub sites have it for a similar price.

I read WPT and Poker Player. These are probably only available in the UK though...

Re: Poker Magazines

bluff magazine is the most poorly written garbage i've ever read. seriously, if you look there are at LEAST 15 spelling / grammar errors per issue.

Hm, what do make of Poker Player? I find it's like a poker-themed lad mag, but it is incredibly cheap as they offer subscription deals as low as £5.

I think CardPlayer is worth the $99 per annum for UK subscribers (about £2 per issue). CardPlayer Europe I find very slim & probably only worth it if you want extra coverage of European tourneys. I occasionally pick up Bluff Europe from cardrooms and as mentioned by others, it's reasonably meaty.

I started reading poker player last year and yes it is a bit laddish (something i dont particularly like!) it had a nice section on road testing systems from various books which i enjoyed reading...but that seems to have stopped, and it has good articles on playing Horse etc! and i think the price is surprisingly cheap!

Occasionally i like to read inside edge too!

Card Player, Poker Player, and Bluff are all available for free at the area casinos. Does anyone know if the Card Players are the same as what people get for a paid subscription? They always seem to be when I see them in stores, but I just want to make sure.

The subscription version has about a dozen pages of full-page pictures of players from a recent poker tournament. Other than that, it's identical to the casino version.

You can get Cardplayer for $6/year on Ebay; it's $16.95 for 3 years, 78 issues. Of course it may never come. I ordered mine 3 weeks ago...

I don't think Poker Player is as informative or well written as WPT, and sometimes you have to take their advice with a pinch of salt. I subscribe to WPT and only really buy PP between issues when I have nothing else to read, it's only around £2 per issue. Though at the end of the day I guess you get what you pay for :/

Inside Poker would be my choice of magazines available in the U.K.

Once Poker Player decide to ditch Micheal Greco and replace his blow your own trumpet articles with some better content then Inside Poker may have some decent competition.
