Hey everyone...I know how everyone likes cliff notes in BBV...I hope a video is better...below is a video explaining the ongoing tragedy involving the Jena 6 which is currently taking place...its only around 3 mintues please focus your attention for this very serious matter...mods please don't delete this thread...if this was you or your son you'd want someone to do the same...As soon as I learned of this I thought of the great work BBV did for kids Inc and hoped this would generate a similar turnout...it would be great if everyone even just signed the petition...

This is a really big issue, so please be very careful to post only the facts. It only hurts a cause when you post misleading info like this; he has not yet been sentenced, 22 years is the maximum he can receive. First-time offenders rarely ever receive the maximum.

I don't need to be informed about how people are sentenced...I am a Corrections Officer...but the fact that it is possible for him to do so much time in itself is wrong...I know he hasn't been sentenced...but ty for seeing the importance of the issue

Ok, I am with you guys about this being wrong and obviously the people involved are seriously overreacting to this, but I would like to point out one thing. Black on white violence is ridiculous among children. If you're white, not expecially large, and you go to a public school in any city in America, you learn very fast to fear nearly every dark skinned minority you see, particularly when you're alone and they're not. If you grew up in a suberb or went to private school you'll never be able to understand what I mean, but it's true. I couldn't tell you how many of my friends growing up got jumped by groups of black kids for no damn reason, myself included obviously. Nothing ever happens to them either because they either don't get caught, or they get let off with a warning because all of the teachers are infested with liberal guilt. Additionally, kids tend to have the mentality of being able to do anything they want regardless of laws that could only send them to juvinile hall at worst anyway.

Now I'm not saying I think making an example out of a random group of kids like this is correct in any way. But I do think a message needs to be sent or something needs to be done to protect non-violent children who can't even protect themselves from being beaten up by packs of lawless child thugs. It is emotionally scarring and should not go unnoticed as often as it does.

Who said that? The only comment I made about these kids is that I think what is being done to them is wrong. I didn't say they are guilty, I didn't say they are innocent, I didn't even watch the video. I am commenting on a related problem in this country that I have personally witnessed far too many times.

The video states that the black student was jumped by a group of white kids at an earlier party and he was being taunted by the white student for being beaten up...I have no clue if the group of white students who jumped him are being charged with that crime but I would sure like to know

Stop making national generalizations for your own experiences. I had many friends in high school that were white, black, asian, and latino. Same for my friends at neighboring schools. Claiming that all inner-city public high schools are urban warfare sites is hilariously wrong. I played varsity baesball (nearly all-white team/fans/opponents) and basketball (nearly all-black team/fans/opponents) and never felt uncomfortable in either atmosphere throughout high school.

Okay so there are exceptions, I shouldn't have overgeneralized. Clearly I am talking about public schools near areas that spawn "ghetto" type kids.

I'm also not saying it's every single black kid. Obviously there are nice ones, nerdy ones, defenseless ones, etc. I had non-white friends same as anyone. I'm talking about the random groups of mean looking thugs you have to walk past to get home every day.

Agreed, plus national spotlight that comes along with bandwagon cases like this make it very, very hard on racist local courts that otherwise operate with impunity when dealing with apathetic, underpaid, overworked public defenders.

Racial composition of school: ~40% white, ~30% black, ~20% asian, ~10% hispanic

And yes, before you ask, I got jumped in high school. I got into a fair amount of fights growing up, but it was only by a black kid once (the rest were all white), and race had nothing to do with that.

whatever the hell your point is, in this school in jena, the rolls are obviously reversed. instead of the "minorities" harassing white kids, its the other way around. these kids stood up for themselves and now are being punished.
