Be honest: How often did you go broke ?

Be honest: How often did you loose your complete bankroll ?

I´ve lost my initial 50€ buy-in 4 times in the last 3 months. I just had a big downswing/tilt, but this time i have enough left to build it up again.. How many tries did you need to buid a solid bankroll (1k+) ?

Never. I never even lost my balance, which should be distinguished from a bankroll. I started with play chips, then hit a royal flush jackpot which gave me $5, took that to $0.01-$0.02 limit (with two $0.01 blinds), NL $2, $5 SNGs, $10 SNGs, and then moved $500 to Party, where I made the final tables of my first two MTTs to reach $1000. This took 2 months.

The most dangerous time was when I was playing NL $2 (buying in for $1) with a balance of $8, and I didn't know how to play NL yet. I had played MTT freerolls, but cash games were different. I think I was a winning player from the start at everything else. Being a winning player is very important for avoiding going bust.

After I hit $1k, I started clearing bonuses by playing $1-$2 limit, and hit $10k in about 3 more months. Then I moved to NL $100, where I again started to win more from my play than the bonuses.

lost $100 twice...

started reading 2+2 and following a bankroll management plan.

things now are sweet - still not at 1k yet still at NL10 so little way to go yet!

KEY:

1 - play within your bankroll
2 - work to plug your leaks
3 - DISCIPLINE

I'll be honest. I probably lost 10-20 initial deposits of $50, a few of in the $300 range, and 20+ at $500. This is over the period of 4-years. Even though I lost all this money I managed to play a lot of poker and eventually got to the point where I can turn a nice profit. Today I'm well in the black.

Deposited $90.00 a year ago. Lost half of it in less than 500 hands.

Moved down, kept at it, made adjustments. Now I'm consistently winning.

Lost a few $50 deposits, once won $2500 in a partypoker mtt then proceeded to blow 3/4 of it in cash games before I withdrew. I quit poker after that for about a year, then got back into it and read more books. I do ok for myself now..much more disciplined... not rich by any means but am profitable enough to pay college tuition.

Never man, but I got seriously lucky on a very tiny bankroll and then smartened up later

I've gone busto once.

I started my real-career at WPEX, where I got $12.50 for winning a freeroll. I ran that up to $34 playing $5.50 five-handed SNGs before chickening out. (To be fair, I was crazy under-rolled and the action on WPEX is awful.)

Next I moved to Party, where I deposited $50 (my only deposit so far) to collect a bonus. Over about three months I made $255 total (including the $125 bonus) while playing only about 100 hands per day. Problem was, I kept cashing some of my money out whenever I had even hints of profit, so I never built up a proper bankroll. I eventually took a shot and lost it. Still ran a profit though.

I've gone busto online many times, but it probably only adds up to a few hundred over almost two years. Online is more for fun, and I do stupid things like try to bluff at micro-limits and drink a ton while I'm playing

Except for the first time that I went to a casino, when I didn't know that three of a kind beat two pair, I've never been below my bankroll live.

I keep the bankrolls separate -- heck, I don't really have a bankroll for online. I just play when I feel like it. I didn't know about rakeback, bonuses, etc., when I started, and I play so little online now that I just don't bother with them.

I play live as much as possible.

Used to lose ALL the time. It went like this: deposit $150, play on it for a month and lose it in one night. I probably dropped about 2K in 2 years.

Found 2+2, put $150 in UB Oct 06. Grinded that up to 2.5k, cashed out $1500 just last week and am playing with a 1k bankroll.

A long time ago at a game in the 'city.

I got invited to a game that had a bigger buy in than I normally played. I decided to take a chance because after a while grinding becomes a grind.

The game in question was a no limit game with 50-100 blinds and a minimum $30,000 buy in. I bought in for the minimum 30k and sat down.

I did ok for a while in the game and built my stack to like 45k, when I had a sick cooler happen to me.

I had A9 with a board of A97910. I got all my money in with what I though was the best of it. The other guy had Aces and outplayed me.

I have been driving a delivery truck ever since.

Never, but I used everything at my disposal. I took a free $10 from 7 Sultans, finished third in a Prima $100 freeroll, and signed up as an affiliate for several poker rooms. Poker's still a hobby for me, but I'm up $10K.

First deposited $50 on to FT back in the day, ran that up to $700 using poor bankroll management and running hot at NL$100. Lost $200 and moved $500 to Titan.

Took some swings back and forth and went broke playing blackjack.

Just 1 time so far. I have learned from my mistakes. Started playing seriously a few months ago. Using PT, bonus whoring where I can and posting here.

Hasn't happened yet. Deposited 25$ on PS, ran it up to about $80 and then decided to try some SnGs i crashed down to about $12 but have worked it back up to $150+ playing microstakes.

Never.

First low point was $50, 1-tabled $25nl and then proceeded to grind it to a solid br 4-tabling FR, moved up to $100nl.

Closest was when I had to cash it all out to pay a downpayment and then played $5 6-man SNGs on Pacific on $28, then turned that into $400 in a week, etc etc.

Re: Be honest: How often did you go broke ?

Never. Of course, I've never played real money online, does that count?

Home games are a little different, as the money tends to come out of a wallet and not an account. I've never been down more than 1-2 buy-ins in my short home game career, however.

I've never gone "bust", unless if you count withdrawing everything in my account except for about 70 cents, which I pissed about with and ended up with $0

Re: Be honest: How often did you go broke ?

started with around 125$ on party 2 years ago. Made it up to 15k in around 180K hands of various small stakes (lowest being 0.5/1$ limit and NL25$. Those were the lowest stakes for learning back then on Party)

never been *busto*
