What MLB Homerun is most memorable for \"YOU\"?

I'm not thinking about Fisk's, or Gibson's, Dent's or Carter's, but a homerun that is not a top 25 type but is particularly memorable for you.

For me, as a life-long Jay's fan, the homerun that Alomar hit off the cocky Eckersley in Game 4 of the 1992 ALCS was the one for me. The tension and situation makes it my most memorable one ever.

What's yours???

The only 3 homeruns that stand out for me from my lifetime were Boone and then Ortiz the next year in the ALDS and ALCS. All 3 are very memorable, for different reasons, LDO.

Re: What MLB Homerun is most memorable for \"YOU\"?

The following I saw in person:

Jim Edmonds in game 6 of the 2004 NLCS
Walk-off in extra innings down 3-2 in the series to the Astros.

Scott Rolen in game 7 of the 2004 NLCS
Clemens had some ridic stat when up two runs. Cards came back from down 2-0 to tie it on a double by Pujols. Rolen bats next and took Clemens deep. The old busch absolutely exploded and stayed in a huge party for the next 3 innings.

Griffey's 500 was pretty cool just because he was my favorite player in my teens and it was nice to see the milestone in person.

Also, loved July 21st(?) of 2004 when the Cards came back from down 6 at Wrigley. Pujols hit 3 homers. Taguchi took the Farns deep to tie the game. Cubs came into the season with high hopes after taking 4 of 5 verse the closerless Cards the previous september. Cubs had a big win in St. Louis in late May/ early June to either tie for the division lead or get one behind. There was a big story in the St. Louis Post Dispatch on these not being your fathers' Cubs to kick around. The next night, Cubs blew a 4 run lead. The night before the July 21st game, the Cards beat Zambrano (Edmonds hitting a huge bomb after a brushback pitch). The 2 game sweep put the Cards about 10 games up. Cards fans were chanting, "Season's over!" for the last half inning. It was hilarious.

The first one I remember being really stoked about was Joe Carter's to win the WS, I wasn't really a Jays fan but I always liked Carter as a kid and that celebration was awesome.

Ripken's AS game HR in his final year. I don't care if it was a gift.

I saw Varitek take Rivera yard in the 2nd game of the 2005 season, top 9 to tie it, that was awesome. Then [censored] Jeter hit one off Foulke to win in the bottom half. Best HR's I've seen in person for sure.

Aaron Boone obv.

Damon's slam off Clemens in the 04 ALCS is my favorite moment from that year.

Well, being from Minnesota, Kirby Puckett's Game 6. It was an amazing game and an amazing series.

I still get chills hearing the call.

I went to Kerry Wood's first start after he had Tommy John surgery. He Homered in his first AB and Wrigley went crazy. So much hope for him back then...

Re: What MLB Homerun is most memorable for \"YOU\"?

Down to their last out in the ninth and trailing the Astros by six runs with nobody on base, the Pirates scored seven times against one of the best bullpens in baseball, including a climactic grand slam by ex-Buc Brian Giles off of former Astro ace Billy Wagner, for an improbable 9-8 victory in the opener of the first home day-night doubleheader in franchise history before a crowd of 32,977 in July 2001.

It really makes me sad that this is the most memorable HR of my life.

1990 World Series. Game 1.
Bottom of the first inning, Eric Davis hit a line shot at Riverfront off of Dave Stewart. It set the tone for the series.

Especially noticeable because Eric had a huge hole in his swing. Fastballs up and in were a guaranteed strikeout. For some reason Stewart pitched him down.

well, in his defense, they did pitch like their whole starting rotation and bullpen that game desperately trying to find a pitcher who could get somebody out.

Other than the Ortiz walkoffs:

Lidge vs. Pujols. I think that was the quickest I had ever heard so many people go quiet so fast.

Varitek in Game 2 of ALDS in 04 to give BOS the lead. I had never been to a playoff game before and I knew it was going to be my last time to see Pedro pitch. ANA fans behind us were banging their thundersticks, telling the BOS fans in the row BOS is over rated, Pedro sucks now, blah blah....To see that dancing monkey made me so happy

Mueller off of Rivera in 04. I don't think the fight was a catalyst, or anything like that, but it was just an exciting baseball game with the fight, several comebacks, the walkoff, and Fenway erupting like they just won the World Series.

Re: What MLB Homerun is most memorable for \"YOU\"?

There's a few. All have Mariner's history in them.

1.) Griffey going yard in his first home at bat, his rookie season. As a lifelong (5ish years at that point) Mariner's fan, I knew what fake hope was like, and saw it nearly every spring. But this Griffey kid....he was gonna be the real deal. The hype in april of '89 was a little more intense, a little more exaggerated, and a little more real.

2.) 1998...I was in college in LA. A few of us (including, I think, 2+2er Sooga) decided we'd go catch an angels game in anaheim. The halos were bad that year, so we didn't bother getting tickets in advance. I was giddy, because the Mariners were in town, and Arod needed one more HR to reach the 40-40 club. Well, the 4 or 5 of us drive out to Anaheim, and to our chagrin, the game is sold out. I think it was fan appreciation day or something, as there was no earthly reason why the halos shoulda been sold out. We were too poor to be able to buy scalped tickets, so we went home, disappointed. Arod went 40-40 that day, and i've hated Sooga ever since.

3.) Griffey, Sr. and Griffey, Jr. going yard, back to back. Just awesome.

But, if I could pick only one....I went to a handful of M's games in August/September of 1995. One game, we got dang near the last seats available, and were sitting in the right field bleachers in the kingdome. The M's were down (vs. the A's, I think)....down like 6-3 or so. Bases were loaded and Vince Coleman came up. He played a handful of games for the M's, as he was their big free-agent-deadline acquisition (actually a post July 31st acquisition, if I remember correctly). Anyways, he hit a grandslam. IIRC, it was his only grand salame in his career. The ball landed right in front of us, and the kingdome exploded. It was a dumpy place to watch a game, but man did it get loud.

Sorry to break the rules, but I'm a Sox fan who's old enough to remember the Fisk HR. It gets my vote.

Two other Boston HR's from that season:

--Fred Lynn had a game at Tiger Stadium where he hit 3 HRs, a triple, and a single, knocking in ten runs, and tying the AL record for total bases in a game. The last HR was on the roof.

--Jim Rice became the sixth player to hit one over the flagpole in CF at Fenway, and the ball looked like it was still going UP when it disappeared into the darkness.

Dodgers 4 home runs in a row vs. the Padres which basically rolled us into the playoffs.

For non-crucial games, I was at a Dodger game when Odalis Perez was good. He pitched 7 or 8 innings of shutout ball and hit a home run for the only run of the game. Man did it all by himself.

Maggs in the ALCS last year, mostly memorable for the beer shower that was given to our friend who was absolutely hammered from blackberry brandy. "DA TIGAZ!!! I can never decide which one I like better, Belhorn's two run shot or Damon's slam. Damon's slam was so damn nice because everyone in the room pretty much knew that was the game. But Belhorn just rules, so seeing him stick it to 'em was awesome.

I remember a Monday night game from when I was a kid where Dave Winfield homered in the bottom of the ninth to extend a game the Yankees eventually won. This homer solidified that Winfield was going to be my favorite player, so it was particularly memorable.

Also, live the first home run I saw was a monster shot to center ny McGwire against O's in 88 I think.

Are we talking live? If so, the only one that was truly memorable for me was by an unremarkable player in an otherwise unremarkable game.

I was 8, I think, and my friends father took us to our first game at Fenway, circa 1957. Sammy White hit one out and it was the coolest thing at the time that I'd ever seen.

Mine isn't a single HR. It's actually 4.

Mark Whiten hit 4 HR's in a single game against the Reds in 93. A friend of mine had recently gotten a job in Cincy and called me to round up the guys and come watch the Reds beat the Cardinals. A few of us piled into a car and drove the 1.5 hrs to see the Reds get beat by 1 person. The final score of the game was 15-2.

However, to make a point, when everyone mentions dramatic HR's, they always seem to mention the one that in my mind is #1: Bill Mazeroski's walk off HR in game 7 of the 1960 WS against the Yankees.

I was only 9 at the time, and not yet a member of Red Sox nation, but I still remember most of Jersey walking around shaking their heads.
