This is for the dead people who were known... but not super famous


Do not post Jimi Hendrix, James Dean, Cobain, Elvis. and the like.


There are a few people I really wish were still around.

1)Lane Staley (singer, Alice in Chains) Had a unique voice, and I realized after he was gone how great a band that they were.

2)Shannon Hoon (singer Blind Melon) Not the best band by any means, but this guy was the band. After he died they could never replace him. He was a druggie nut... but funny and unique.

3)River Phoenix --- I think he had the chops to be a good actor... not Deniro good, but good.

You guys pick the rest.

PS... I think it would be cool to see how Stu Ungar would have fared against the huge main event fields now. He has such a mystique about how good he was.

From your list it seems like dying young is part of the qualifications, so is Payne Stewart too famous for this list? I think he's significantly less famous than River Phoenix. I miss that guy because he was so easy to root for. He made watching golf fun enough to be worthwhile.

Peter Jennings too famous? I grew up watching him every night with the parents; his voice reminds me of better times in my family. Strange, I guess.

So far, 60% of these entries are far beyond "kinda famous." PETER JENNINGS?? Also, picture = Bill Hicks - comedian who died young of cancer. His fame never really spread past the comedy clubs, but it probably would have if he didn't die so early.

I think this nails the criteria, he was kinda famous, did ozzfest 98, had a good number of fans, but wouldn't be known by most.

Died, along with his dog, in a car accident, before the second album was finished.

John Candy, Peter Jennings, and Steve Irwin are all way too famous for this thread. If you, your Mother, and your HS math teacher have all heard of the guy, he's too famous for this thread.

Not sure about Easy E and HST, though. Rock-star famous within their arenas, but not so well known outside it.
