Phil Ivey is the most SUCCESSFUL player in the world? (not best)

Based on anyone's "inside" knowledge or any other knowledge, who do you believe to be the most successful poker player in the world?

Obviously this can include book deals, endorsements or whatever.

I'm not talking about who do you think has the best game, I'm talking about who is the most successful.

I believe it to be Ivey based on his live earnings + online earnings and other ventures, but I also have minimal knowledge of the other high stakes players like Reese, Doyle, Forrest, Harmon, whomever.

I'm prepared for the "leveling," "flaming" and whatever else you guys do around here.

I think a lot of these high stakes veterans have huge advantages over the online high stakes players (aba, durr, etc.) because they are invited into the Larry Flynt game, to play with people like Jordan and Barkley, etc. due to their poker celeb status. I'm pretty sure Ivey takes full advantage of those type of games where as Townsend doesn't have that opportunity (Farha doesn't count).

He said most successful poker player and he didn't say he/she had to be a pro poker player. So I'm going to go out on a limb and say Bill Gates.

Re: Phil Ivey is the most SUCCESSFUL player in the world? (not best)

baldwin is the most successful poker player in the world though. You could say bill gates andy beal etc are poker players too so they are the most successful, but then we are getting into terminology.

Just because they didnt get their success in poker only doesnt make them discounted. In that regard you could rank Eli Elezra high up there because of all the real estate he owns, and Hellmuth for publicity etc.

Bobby Baldwin and its not close.

Think about it this way- everytime you play craps, 21, or any other game at an MGMMirage casino which include Mandalay, Luxor,MGM Grand, Excalibur, NYNY, Monte Carlo, Bellagio, TI, or Mirage, you are essentially losing money to Bobby Baldwin.

He has managed to get himslef on the very profitable +EV side of table games of the most prestigious gaming company in the world.

game over Bobby wins.

Meh... a lot of you guys seem to confuse being the president of a company (a high-ranking employee), with owning the company.

Technically I guess you are right that, to the extent that Baldwins owns stock and options in the company he gets some of the profits of the casino, but I don't think that's what you had in mind. By that standard anyone who owns a $50 share of MGM can make the same grand claims about being on the right side of table games.

Without knowing his compensation package you have no idea what he is worth... Hellmuth and Lederer are both worth a ton, very possibly more than Baldwin.

Doyle and Chip are also worth a ton from sports betting and sports booking.

I think the more interesting question is who has made the most strictly from poker. That could be Phil Ivey but I wouldn't know.

I wouldn't call MGM the most prestigious gaming company in the world (that's probably LVS) and I also think that Baldwin is mostly involved in Bellagio operations. That being said, he is one of the top 5 most successful personalities in poker. I would add Hellmuth, Ivey, Reese, and D. Brunson to the list as well.

Ever wondered how much our casino execs make? Let's just say that no matter how high the price of gas goes, these guys will be able to afford it.

According to a recent newspaper report, the five highest paid executives of publicly traded companies in Las Vegas are: Frank Fertitta, Station Casinos, $42.8 million; Bobby Baldwin, MGM Mirage, $38.5 million; Bill Boyd, Boyd Gaming, $37.9 million; Terry Lanni, MGM Mirage, $31.5 million; and John Redmond, MGM Mirage, $29.6 million.

The dollar figures include short- (salary) and long-term (stock and options) compensation.
