$150 - $200 million depending on the price of oil and various stocks on any given day.
Value of Assets in my name: $10 - $20 million, once again dependent on the value of oil any given day.

No, private day school. Boarding schools aren't popular with Texans as they're seen as breeding grounds for godless communisits, and even worse, democrats....No spankings at school, but my dad spanked the [censored] out of me if acted up.

I can't liquidate most of the assets until I'm 25 (I'm 22 now). But I have a etrade portfolio I could get about $100,000 out of. Another $100,000 out of credit cards and checking accounts. I could borrow up to a million probably against some of my assets at a bank, but that could take a couple weeks. So I'll say a quarter million cash in the next 48.

Nah, i've lived a pretty modest life. My parents believe in artifical deprivation. I play poker for enjoyment, and I also like to think I can make my own way and in the world -- although realistically there's little chance I can make more than I've inherited even if I work my ass off. There's that element of luck in life as well as poker.

How fast do you think you could spend your inheritance, not including investments (housing, stocks, buying a company, etc), like just blowing it on useless crap like $10,000 backscratchers?

pfft. 200mil,

WHilst my familys net worth is about a 2% of this, my best friend has a more than a billion.(not more than 2 tho). I went to private day shcool with him we had people that boarded tho.

From what you have described upbringing/inheritance wise appears similiar.

To a certain extent yeah. Once you meet your basic needs a certain level of luxury increases your happiness, but you get diminishing returns after that. Money also equates to power, which can give you a rush if you don't get too bigheaded and self destruct. My family is pretty modest (unless we're drunk and braggig on internet forums for the hell of it ), so hopefully I don't become jaded.

Do you like horseracing also?

Gambling appears to be rought throughout these type families as a way to show how little they value money, have you experienced this?

Have you ever worked a real job?

Is your families networth singular (as in one primary investment) or is it more an accumulation of assets?

Do you find people will treat you differently once they find out how much you are worth?

Only child?

Do you live by yourself yet?

[/ QUOTE ]

Good questions, I might need another beer before I get really philosophical, but I'll give it a go. I guess my main goal is to be happy. The money allows me to satisfy material ,and bodily needs. However, I feel there is a third aspect to happiness, maybe call it "spiritual needs". To feel like you've given back to society, helped other, acheived things on your own, etc... So I guess I feel obligated to work or volunteer to fulfill these needs. Politics is always a traditonal "job" to pursue once you have money. It's something I'm strongly considering as it seems like it could be rewarding. I also fall into the mindset of viewing money making as a game, with the size of the bank account as the number of points you have scored. I trade a lot of stocks and options and will probably enter finance once I get out of college ... You could say I have an ambition to increase the number of points in my score for its own sake...

I slacked off in highschool, but got into a good college because of connection. I'm not proud of it, but it's the way it was to be honest. I matured in college though, and busted ass in school -- one year left. As I said in another post I think one needs to work and acheive things on his own in order to be happy...

I mentioned it explicitly once on a date, and it did not work. The girl actually walked out on me later in the crowded bar. I felt real sleezy afterwards. Although I won't lie that I display it in a subtle manner, which is the way to go. I've attraced my fair share some vapid chicks and gold diggers in college, and even guys who tried to scam me with some business scheme or another. But now from the way I dress and act you probably couldn't tell whether I was the son of an accountant, doctor, lawyer, or rich oilman...
