Is Sonic good?
 

I live in the NYC metro area, and I lived in West Virginia for college. In NYC, and in WV before, I'd constantly see ads for Sonic, but there were none anywhere nearby. I think the closest one to NYC is in Allentown, PA, or something. So anyway, I see these commercials all the time, and it looks [censored] awesome. I see the ad, get hungry as hell for it, and then realize that there's no Sonic within 100 miles. So is it good? I would never drive to Allentown to try it, but near my house in NC there are a few nearby. Is it worth going?

Sonic's foot-long chilli cheese coney is the absolute [censored].

They're stingy on their fries though... a sonic-size or whatever it's called is about the same as a small at McDonald's... [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]

Dairy Queen's chili dogs are 5 times better than Sonic's. Sonic puts this yellow crap on there that has no cheese-like qualities whatsoever. And there's no meat in the "chili"; it's just grease.

The hamburgers aren't bad, and they're half-price on Tuesday nights.

Also, I'm never sure if or how much to tip the person when they come out. I usually tip $1 even though I know that's ridic, I guess I could just tip the spare change rounding up to the next dollar. Discuss.

Well, it's a step up from McDonalds, Burger King, and Jack In The Box at least. I agree with the kinda like DQ, but worse assessment.

edit: their breakfast burritos are pretty good too.

im in the same boat as op, i live in central jersey and am 100 miles from a sonic, yet the commercials are always on.
Does sonic have very strong national coverage, or are they more regional.

I have a feeling they might be preparing for a roll-out in NJ or something. I can't imagine why else they'd be advertising so heavily in a very expensive market for television ads.

Very good description with the "like DQ but worse". Their drinks are by far the best aspect. Tater tots are also pretty good. Not a fan of the burgers, really - they give me a weird aftertaste, kinda like Steak n Shake. They seem to be more of a midwest/southern fastfood joint.

Sonic tends to locate in smaller towns / cities.

Their food is about average, I like their Onion Rings and tater tots, and the cherry limeaids are fantastic. When they tood off the Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich from their menu, no use in having a meal their.

I've always wondered this too, because here in western PA they show ads all the time, but the closest Sonic is in Ohio 2+ hours away.

I have eaten at one in Phoenix, it was ok.

I don't know if they are planning to expand, or just run these ads nationally. I guess they've got people talking, at least.

I don't think there is one in the whole state of Wisconsin, yet I see the commercials all over the place (statewide I mean).

Same with CiCi's Pizza Buffet... I wanna check these places out yo.

Lol, pretty damn accurate. Or for broke college students. $6 for all you can eat pizza, salad, breadsticks, pasta and a drink. I honestly have a hard time thinking of comparable pizza. I'd actually rank most frozen pizzas above this place. To be totally fair though, they have the most amazing cinnamon rolls I've ever eaten. Much better than cinnabon or anywhere else.

chicken club with honeymustard is good, tator tots alright, strawberry slush good stuff. and if you give the chick at the durango vegas sonic a $20 tip after a night of degen gambling at the red rock and see her expression, it will warm your heart.

I thought Cici's was $3.99? There's one a mile from my house but I've never eaten there. The commercials just make it sound like "the cheapest pos buffet anywhere"

Cici's is $3.99-$4.99 depending on location. Drink is like $1.50. The buffalo chicken pizza is actually pretty dang good. As a basic rule stay away from the pizzas with pizza sauce, as their sauce isn't great. They have tons of varieties though and will make pretty much however much you want of whatever pizza you can think of, you just have to ask.

Sonic's food is meh, their prices are high, and their drinks are excellent. Try the blue coconut cream slush. Coconut is my least favorite flavor, but for whatever reason blue coconut contains no coconut flavor whatsoever.

As stated earlier, the drinks are way better than the food. To the gentlemen who thinks their ads suck, you're incorrect, they rock.

The food is not amazing, it is however a nice break if you've been on the McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's slop wagon for a while.

As for Cici's pizza, it really blows, if I was homeless I would do it as much as possible, but that's the extent. My ex's uncle owns the two most successful Cici's in the nation, and I told her I was befuddled as to why someone would open a joint with such a low profit margin. I have since totally retracted my statements, and believe that with little in the way of culinary integrity, one can be a zillionaire.

PS - Cici's cinnamon roles are indeed fantastic and I think Sonic advertises nationally. Chicago has the same deal with the commercials but no locations.

Not enough mention of breakfast in this thread. Sonic serves breakfast ALL DAY AND NIGHT. SuperSonic Breakfast Burrito (no jalopenos) FTW. Throw in a Bacon-Egg-Cheese Toaster Sandwich for $1.99. They give you more bacon than TEN McDonalds breakfast sandwiches. Mmmmmmm, bacon!
