NBC National Heads-Up Championship - Taping at Caesar\'s 3/4 - 3/6
 

For those who are in Vegas and are interested, NBC's National Heads-Up Championship is taping at Caesar's from March 4-March 6. Taping is scheduled to start at 11AM on March 4. I don't exactly when people will be let in to the "arena."

Not sure if the full list has been announced publicly or not.

I've seen the list so I can speak to it with some authority. I think it's a better group of players than last year. More talent. But, like last yr, there are also a few extras. There's an internet qualifier. There are two or three Caesar's exemptions.

I'm really excited for the taping this weekend. I know a bunch of the pros are fired up too.

Not sure where it's taping, as I haven't seen the Caesar's layout yet. I didn't even realize there was an official "arena" there. There's no way it'll be taped in the poker room. Best bet is to ask the front desk when you come in. There should be lots of signs.

The brackets haven't been decided yet. They have a drawing on Friday to decide who plays who. I got the 64 participants off nbcheadsup.com.

There's a live show to announce the brackets. It's Friday night. If NBC did it in advance without the players present, the players would fear that it was rigged. This way, it's out in the open, in front of the media and the players. Make sense?

I'm fairly certain this is being held in the poker room. The tournament room has more than enough room for 32 heads-up tables.

I was at Caesars Palace today and the tournament room was closed off. I assumed the room was already being prepared for the weekend's events.

They built that large tournament room for these kinds of things. Why wouldn't they use it?

I meant that they wouldnt use the "actual" poker room. Don't know about the tournament room. Remember, they need room for an audience, cameras, etc.

I hope they televise it at a consistent time this year. Last year, I never knew it was on, (and I have yet to see the last episode, since all they replayed were the earlier ones -- atleast by me).

One of the times, they aired it by me at like 1:00 am instead of the time listed on their website.

Please, just air it at the same time every week. I wanted to watch every episode but missed half of them because the schedule was so crazy.

I'm not sure what your basis is for determining whether or not James Woods is a good player (nor am I interested), but clearly, NBC is interested in putting together a compelling TV product as well as a top-notch poker show. Take from that what you wish.

And, FWIW, James Woods nearly beat Johnny Chan last year.

Is this link supposed to prove that he can play? 24th place in a single WPT event, and nothing else of note? Anyone can finish barely in the money in a major tournament if they enter enough of them.

Honestly, I don't know whether James Woods is a good poker player. But he certainly can't be as good as he seems to think he is.

One weekend I must've seen James Woods bust out of 20 SNGs in a row at Foxwoods. He seemed to be a pretty big donator in general. I remember during some of his endless chatter, he mentioned how he outplayed Johny last year but got unlucky.

I was at Caesars Palace tonight and got an excellent look at the tournament setup.

The tournament room is being used as the primary television set. It will have the main game in the center of the room and about 8 other games surrounding it. The audience will be in bleachers on the far right and far left of the room. The whole thing has a Roman arena look.

It appears many of the early round matches will be played in the elevated high-limit section of the poker room. All the tables have been removed from there, presumably so that work can be done over the next couple days.

Slight corrections.

The TV stage will have the main table and 7 other tables. 8 matches will be played simultaneously. It looks like all the matches will be played on the stage.

The high limit section has been cleared away for GQ to use to sell stuff. GQ is a sponser of the tournament.

Mike Caro has built a substantial lead over his opponent Tony G.

Scott Fischman raises to $1,500 on the button and James Woods reraises to $4,500. Fischman moves all in and Woods calls. Fischman has Ac-Ks and Woods has Qc-Qs. The flop comes K-7-8 and Fischman takes the lead. The turn is an eight and the river is a six.

James Woods has been eliminated and Scott Fischman moves on.
