Hows the action at these Los Angeles Casinos?
 

I'm going to be playing quite a bit of poker in los angeles,ca and only have the choice to play at these casinos.

(Exclusively Playing NL $200)

1. Bicycle Casino

2. Normandie Casino

3. Hollywood Park Casino

4. Hawaiian Gardens Casino

How would you guys describe the action at these places? During the

Night/Morning and Afternoon.

in a word "loose." It's a joke, people are retarded. It will make you spend time thinking about why people are crazy. Morning, noon, and night loose. I play at hollywood park, it's a circus. The only other one i've played at that you mentioned is the bike. It's alright, but i find hp to be better (and closer for me). good luck.

HG is a fish fry. I've heard good things about HP. Never heard of #2. Bike looked pretty player friendly the first time I looked it over but didn't seen any sick action.

edit: Nevermind. I've looked over NLHE at the HG and it looked soft but not retarded. Maybe sometime I'll try their $300 game.

First, the action in all LA rooms is stupid loose. The 3/5 200 max buy-in NL game will average 4+ to a flop. No flush or open-ended straight draw is ever folded. Ever. As for your choices (given the rooms your listed)...

Bicycle - spreads 3/5 200 min-max NL; expect 4-5 tables of it mid-afternoon, more on nights and weekends.

Hollywood Park - 3/5 200 min-max NL; 3 tables mid-afternoon

Normandie - didn't spread 200 max last time I checked. Anyone know different?

Hawaiian Gardens - spreads 3/5 300 min-max; figure 4 tables or so on any given night; probably 2-3 mid-afternoon

So that narrows it to the Bike or Hollywood Park. The action at the Bike can be somewhat nittier than HP but there's more tables and the food's better. If I had to choose, I'd say play the Bike.

You do realize that Commerce is only like 10-15 minutes from the Bike, right? I made the rounds last time I was there, next time to LA it's Commerce only for me.

Here's an example of some of the players you'll find in LA.

Last time I was there, I played at the Bike in their $300-$500 $5/$5 NL game. I built my stack up to $1400 before the following hand took place.

I posted a straddle of $10. 3 people limp, and both blinds call. I wake up with pocket Queens in the straddle. With the pot at $60 preflop, I raised it up $60 more. I get 1 caller. The pot is $180.

Flop is Q, 8, 4, with 2 spades.

I bet $150, and get called. Pot is now $480.

The turn is a 3 of clubs. I tell the guy that I know he's on a flush draw, and he can't call my next bet. I push for $1200, and he calls the $1200 instantly, showing his hand. Q 7 of spades. He missed his spade draw, and I scoop the pot.

He didn't even hesitate calling $1200 to win $1680 on a non-nut flush draw with 1 card to come.


That's just one example of the crazy things I saw people do in the 4 days I played there.

O.K., let's stop with this. Any casino you go to you run the risk of getting robbed. But anyone who uses their brain would never get robbed at a casino.

That said, I've played at all but HG. HP is loose and more aggressive than the Bike. The Bike is a little tighter, sorta tight-passive for the limits you're asking about, IME. When I played at Normandie it was a private game, but I did enjoy myself there. If you're any good at poker you should do well at any of these, but I have no idea of your skill level.

The Hustler is only one mile south of the Normandie and has several NL games with 2-5 blinds and a 100-300 spread buy. They also have added a 5-5 blind game with a 300-500 spread buy (two games were going last night). Normandie is goofy fun but with the Hustler just a mile away you should check it out.

Yeah I'm a little confused why OP is only stuck with these 4 casinos? Commerce isn't far from the Bike, Hustler is right down the street from Normandie. There's plenty of casinos in the area than just these 4.

I've mostly played at HG in the 3/5 300nl game, but also occasionally at HP and Commerce. The HP 200nl game is probably the softest out of those 3.

id skip HP and normandie,

hit the HG, Bike and commerce. if the bike has tourneys running the action is by far the best there and will take lots of action from commerce.

HG is retarded and the 8/16 - 1/2kill game is insanely retarded. last week my friend won 24 bets with Ace Rag when lady shows A9 busted flush draw (top pair) and mucks.

LOL. This happened to me a few weeks ago in that game. I had been playing pretty damm LAGGY, but no one was looking me up. So a bad tight(by so cal standards which means very loose) player raises from MP and I 3bet on the button with A10. Flop comes down Q105r. He checks, I bet, he cr, I 3town, he 4 bets, I 5 bet for a free turn, he curses and mucks KK face up and crys about how lucky I am to hit my set of queens. LOL.

No, he had a combo draw of a pair plus a flush draw. The non-nut nature of the draw is only marginally relevant since you're unlikely to have a better flush draw given the action. If he put you on exactly KK or AA (reasonable hands within your range, but too narrow a range for you) then he's behind about 2:1.

It's not a good call even against KK or AA, but it's bad only because of the odds. (Most people don't make the right intuitive decision with a combo draw getting only 7:3 or whatever it is.) In reality, of course, he should consider QQ, AQ, even KQ in your range too.

If that's the worst decision you see an opponent make, then you're in an unreasonably tough B&M game. [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Sorry, I should have said 4:3. At any rate, obviously nowhere near the 2:1 he'd need if he actually knew you had AA.
