Chick coming to visit me in Boston: What to do?
 

Slight brag: I actually managed to convince a member of the opposite sex to stay with me in Boston from the 10th to the 15th. I met her in Scotland back in December when I was visiting my buddy studying abroad and we've been e-mailing each other back and forth ever since.

Hopefully we just have a week long sexual marathon and never leave my apartment, but on the off chance that doesn't happen, I'm wondering how we're going to keep busy for all that time.

What I know about her: she seems pretty laid back, typical Scotland chick if you've been there, likes to drink, probably not into fancy restaurants/expensive shopping. However she does seem pretty outdoorsy and she'll want to "see Boston" so to speak. BTW I live right next to Fenway Park and don't have a car.

Also I'd rather this thread not have restaurant recommendations. I think I know enough places. This is more for daytime activities.

Ideas I have so far:
Duck tour (too touristy? too gay? never done it)
Boston Common
Harvard Square
Aquarium
Prudential Center I guess would keep her busy, but I don't know how big of a shopper she is
Fanueil Hall
Tour of Fenway Park

Man it's really pathetic, I've lived in Boston for the better part of 6 years but besides about a 4 mile radius from Kenmore Sq. through BU up to Allston with a little of Brookline mixed in I really don't know [censored] about the city. Damn you internet poker! Thanks for the help guys.

I got it, I got it. Have her come to your place, and then you will be occupied the whole time with trying to keep your parents from knowing your Uncle Bernie is dead, lots of goofy situations will ensue, just make sure to not play any island music.

there's plenty of stuff for you to do in five days. definitely do the duck tour--they're pretty fun. in addition to what you already have:

the mfa
walk around the north end
take her on a nighttime harbor cruise (bonus: booze!)
go sailing on the charles
get some red sox tickets and take her to a game
museum of science
jfk museum
newbury street
harpoon or sam adams brewery
outdoor concert at the pavilion

Harvard Square-eat at border cafe. see the movie once if its still playing there.

Aquarium- fun, i like it.

Prudential Center I guess would keep her busy, but I don't know how big of a shopper she is

Fanueil Hall- sounds fine. nice touristy area.

Tour of Fenway Park-does she like baseball?

[b]MFA- free on wednesday nights. not too bad other times.

North End- Go for a cheap dinner at Fanueil Hall/Quincy Market, then walk over here for dessert. Go to Modern for standard italian stuff or Trani for italian desserts injected with ice cream.

rent a double kayak or canoe on the charles river for like $15.

take her down the cape and go to beach or take the ferry to p-town and walk around.

If she's really outdoorsy you can take here somewhere up on the North Shore. I've been to Rockport a few times and enjoyed it. There's a small village with shopping and places to eat. You can get there on the Commuter Rail out of North Station. As a plus you can stop at Manchester-by-the-Sea on the way back and go to the beach.

You could also try Walden Woods but I'm not sure about public transportation up there.

Trust me bro, I agree with you 100%. I'm from NYC and I'm moving back there in a month. If she could have come in September I wouldn't have had to make this post. But as it is, staying in Boston "sans parents">>>>>>>>>stayin g in NYC with parents.

She's a girl. You have to do the Swan Boats.

Boston has a few world class art museums. Suggest them or use them for a rainy day plan.

Walk the Freedom Trail or part of it.

Boston Harbor Islands is an outdoor part of the city no one usually goes to. Look online for a schedule of when the boats go to various islands.

Harbor Islands, look into camping overnight if she's into that and they still allow it (bring alcohol, etc)

Walk the Charles/Esplanade at night after drinking somewhere and spark a doob and then cozy up and find a secluded spot maybe after a drink at top of the hub

go to a lake north of boston where they don't allow swimming and you have to kinda sneak in. get baked, go skinny dipping.- oh yeah, no car..bummer see if you can borrow one.

daytrip to P-town from boston harbor via boat

Bar by the harbor on a nice night

sneaky sex in the public garden late at night but watch out for the dudes that keep walking around looking for couples getting it on...they will keep walking past you 40 feet, turn around and stroll back by, etc lol depends on if she's kinda freaky

Harvard Sq, harvard yard, etc

see if anything good is playing at the omni theater

get free passes to the aquarium, museum of science, etc from a boston public library, call them all now and reserve for any day they have them.

Or.. just go for dinner and dessert in the North End. There are plenty of fairly priced, not too fancy places that are really good. Then get some dessert, then stroll around and watch some old guys play bocce.

OP,

Keep her out of Allston, unless you're both into college aged bar scenes. If that's the case it can be a good time of drunkedness. But man do I hate Allston.

For a low key night, check if there's a cool midnight movie showing in Coolidge Corner. Go early, get ice cream/beers.

Take an afternoon just to walk around through the back bay/newbury/esplanade.

museums are a good choice. I haven't been yet, but I've heard great great things about the Gardner Museum.

If you start to get really sick of her, take a T ride to Worcester and leave her there.

The reason you can get a nicer apartment for cheaper in Boston is because the city is less appealing. So this sort of supports the claim that Boston is a rathole. Morgantown, WV is a disgusting shitpile, but you can get nice houses there cheap as hell.
