Group trip to foxwoods (how to maximize fun?)

Hey all, sorry if this topic as been discussed ad nauseum but I wasn't sure what to search for. Me and nine of my friends will be in the foxwoods area in a few weeks for our yearly getaway. Is there anything specific that works better for a large group? How hard will it be for a large group of us to get on a craps table together or something like that? Any specific bar recommendations as well? Thanks!

Re: Group trip to foxwoods (how to maximize fun?)

A few tips:

-The hotel often sells out on weekends, so book well in advance if you want to stay on site.

-In my experience, the Grand Pequot Casino (the one far from the poker room) tends to be a bit less crowded than the Rainmaker Casino (the one above the poker room). It also tends to have slightly higher minimums. (e.g., at some time, Rainmaker might have $10 craps, but Grand Pequot will start at $15). So, you might have more luck gathering around a table there.

-While Mohegan Sun doesn't have poker, it has much better restaurant & bar offerings than Foxwoods. It's probably worth hiring some cabs and going to check it out.

If you want to pick one non-poker day to go to bars, etc., I'd recommend heading over to Mohegan for the day. The bar in front of the waterfall at Tuscany is a great people-watching location, the martini bar at Leffingwells on top of the crystal mountain has a better ambiance than anywhere at FW.

I like everything about Mohegan better than FW except for the fact that Mohegan got rid of poker in '03.

9 ppl fit at a craps table. Drink as much booze as you can and have a contest pool on who makes the most passes in a row.

I recently went with a group of 10 (7 poker players). The seven of us basically sat down at an empty table in the poker room and they sent over a dealer and started a 1-2 NL game for us (Sunday morning)...keep in mind there was virtually no wait list at this point and they filled the other three seats, but it worked out well.

You can also get adjoining hotel rooms, which makes partying a little more fun.

Thanks guys, we're doing foxwoods area because a few of us want to play one of the friday daily tourneys. We're just trying to figure out ways to all hang out on Sat and not split off into 5 different small groups.

You could hang out at the race book or roulette tables, then go to "The Club" for late night drinks.

Re: Group trip to foxwoods (how to maximize fun?)

Depending on when you're planning on being there you can try contacting the room about hosting a private tournament for your group. I did this for my brother-in-law's bachelor party and it worked out well. My guess is that they accomodated us because it was a slow time but they were really nice and easy-going about it either way. If you're interested I'd recommend at least contacting the room.

As a caveat though I brought it up a good two months or so before we were going to be there so there was plenty of lead time. I don't know but I assume that having that time also played into their willingness to work with us. The person I worked with was Michael Ward ([email protected]).

One more question to throw out there. Alcohol service stops at 1am right? Are there any nearby alternative for consumption if 1am last call is a little earlier then what we are hoping for. Thanks again.

Two alternatives to last call are BYOB and sneak it in or a quick jaunt to NYC

Actually a crap game is set up for 16 players but 14 fit comfortably not 9 like someone said. On weekends games will be all 10 min. on rainmaker side and do go down to 5 in the very early morning hours. On the pequot side games are all 10 except for 1 25 min game and 2 50 min games in newport room. Late night they will all be 10 except for the 50 min games. They will not let you have your own private game at all. Best bet is to all go up to a game and be polite but try to take it over from the other players. Most will just leave or hang out with you.
As for Bars since i would check out the BB king or even the Mez lounge. Both arent bad You should also check out Mohegans bars and rest. as they are actually better and im saying that and i work at Foxwoods. Both casinos on weekends have last call at 1:30. No drinks allowed in hand after 2.

Its aslo a 25 min ride to Misquamicut beach in RI. Very good Bar scene down there as long as the weather is good. They are done with alcohol after 1.

Good answer/bad answer.

Good one BYOB. One Friday and Saturday the great state of Puritanism....err... Connecticut last call is 2 AM.

Bad answer. NYC is two hours away........sober.

Check out Mystic if you go off site, it is the home of Mystic Pizza dontcha know. You might even run into Julia Roberts.
