Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
I hear alot of stories about how this guy ran $10 into 10k in two days at a casino by gambling- not poker. Any personal experiences or any crazy gambling stories- please share. I like hearing about people going on tears on blacjack or craps or roulette, or whatever.

Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
You need to read this book:
"The man with $100,000 breasts" by Michael Konik (i think). |
Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
I am not sure where I read it, maybe in the book posted above? Anyway, there is the story of the man who took his social security disability check, $500? to Treasure Island and turned it into over a million playing blackjack. He wasn't even playing correctly according to dealers...plus he apparently was a jerk. One dealer wanted him to lose badly. If I remember correctly, they put him up in the hotel and he ended up giving most of it back. When he got down to $50,000 or so, Steve Wynn cut him off. (this is how I remember the story and it may not be all accurate.)
P.S. The t.v. show Las Vegas ran an episode last year that basically had the same plot line. |
Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
yeah i read that book. very interesting read. I just thought since many of you are around the gambling world alot maybe you would have personal experiences on this.

Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
online, and not that exciting, but...
I did a 300 deposit blackjack bonus the other day, and managed to run it down to 2 dollars quite quickly. I cursed my luck had a smoke, came back, and managed to turn the 2 into 390 and cash out a 90 profit. |
Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
I find it very hard to believe that Steve Wynn would both interfere with this man's gambling ($1mil isn't all that much) and ALSO cut him off at $50,000. He'd still be walking out with their money and comps.

Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
Yeah I remember that episode of Las Vegas... they actually GAVE that guy $10 or something because his wife ran off with another guy or something and they felt bad (so they got him addicted to gambling) and he ran it into several million and then went and invested it into even more, and came back in a later episode and tried to buy the place.

Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
One time when I went to the Borgata with my friends, we all went our seperate ways to find our favorite games to gambool it up. I went to the poker room and most of my other friends stayed on the floor.
Each time my one friend came up, he was either up 2 grand on the roulette table or broke. He came downstairs 4 times with a different amount of what he was up or down. He ended the night up 1600 dollars, though he said at one point he had almost 4 grand. Meanwhile, I won 120 at the 3-6 table..... |
Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
Aboard a cruise-line one weekend, I played craps for about an hour, and turned $50 into around $900. Afterwards, I played a $900 hand of BJ and got blackjack...BOOM, I'm up $2200 or so. Went to roulette and won another 2K and called it a weekend. All in all, I won a little over $4,000 that weekend. Funny thing is, I hardly play any other table games other than poker.

Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
My bro went to a casino with $23 after he lost out of a pool tourney and made $200 playing deuces wild, then a thousand playing bj, on the way out the door he stuck a hundred into a $10 video poker machine, hit 4 jacks on the first deal for $2500, then they made him play it again so the 4 jacks werent on the screen and the machine dealt him a royal flush for $40,000. That's pretty good I think...

Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
one year we hit vegas at chinese new year. my friend and I were going to the poker room and passed by the asian games pit. a old chinese guy was sitting there with two young hotties, playing paigow poker for about 5K a hand and sitting with about 90K in front of him. we passed by again and he was there with a larger stack. we passed by again and he was at the felt. and laughing it up, not giving a [censored] about it at all.
another time in reno, there was a middle eastern looking guy sitting at a private table near the escalators. he was playing big (not sure how big) and was flanked by some scary looking dudes. he got down to the felt, held a hand up to the dealer, whispered to scary looking guy #1 and sat back. SLG#1 pulled out a cell phone (this was way back in the day, so that was pretty impressive in and of itself) and called someone. a few minutes later, scary looking guy #3 and #4 come down the escalator and SLG#3 has a briefcase handcuffed to his wrist. he walks over to the table, the player opens the case, pulls out a thick wad of hundreds and starts playing again. SLG#3 and #4 turn around and go back up the escalator. |

Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
In January of 2004, I got tired of waiting so long to sit in a poker game at my local casino. I decided to try online poker. I didnt know much about it and since party poker was the one I heard about the most, thats the one I tried. I deposited $100 and gave it a try. I played .50-$1 just to get the feel of it. I played about a week and it was down to $12. I was kind of discouraged about the online poker thing. I sat down at two tables at $6 a piece and decided to play it off. I ran it up to about $70. So every night after work I would play a little bit and started taking notes on the players and started tracking down the really bad players. Two and a half months later, it was up to about $1700. Then I discovered bonus whoring and other sites and have since paid off two credit cards, paid off my wife's bankruptcy, bought a new LCD screen, and took a trip to Las Vegas. True story.

Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
I wasn't there, but a couple friends of mine took a cross-country road trip a couple years ago and stopped in Vegas for a couple days. One of the guys was dumb enough to lose most of the $500 or so he had budgeted for the rest of the trip early on and only had about $75 left for the trip back across the country. He just said "[censored] it" and put it all on one roulette square. Of course, it hit, and he walked out with a cool $2,625.

Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
Was at the casino last year sometime and decided to take a break from blackjack for abit. So i sat down at a carribean stud table. First three hands I got, I was dealt a pair of 7's. After the 3rd time, I said to the dealer:
"you know you just dealt me a pair of 7's three hands in a row" she replies: "wow, you should go play roulette" So after about an hour, my buddy comes over and asks if i want to grab a bite to eat, we both get up and walk towards the food court, low and behold, we pass a roulette table, at that point, i only had green chips ($25) and though why the heck not, i was about to put it down on number 7 but there were so many damn people at the table that i couldnt get my bet in on time. I think you guys know where this story is going... low and behold, number 7 hits. [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img] |

Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
I was in Reno in '04 and playing a 25 line penny machine at 2 pennies/line just pushing the button repeatedly trying to kill time while I waited for my friends to come to dinner. On a .50 spin, I hit a jackpot for 132,650 pennies. lol Thankfully they gave me cash and not that many pennies.
A couple weeks later I'm in Atlantic City and I'm so drunk I can barely stand up. I end up leaning against a $10 craps table (I usually only play nickel tables) and buy-in for $100. I woke up in my hotel room with $1200 in my pocket and I really don't remember it. And one other time, I had just gotten my ass kicked at a local indian casino and was walking to my car when I turned the corner and as soon as I stepped next to this lady she lets out a loud yelp. She had just hit $100k+ on a dollar slot the second I stepped foot near her. Insult to my injury. |

Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
A little over a year ago at the Taj's USPC I had just busted out of the $500 NL event and was at the bottom of my bankroll. (still had money, but my bankroll is kept seperate) So in a state of shock over getting 2 outed close to the bubble of a good size tourney, and ready to quit poker I wonder out into the pits. I sit at a .25 video poker machine and drop what is close to my last $20 in. I play three hands and hit a royal for $1000. I decide I need to even out the money in there so I'm not cashing out $1016 (OCD). I attempt to play it off to $1000 even and hit a flush, then a straight, then a boat, and then quads twice in a row! SO now with close to $2,000 at hand I go back to the poker room. I win a single table sattelite for the $1000 tourney and chop another one for another $500. I play a 15/30 LHE session and pick up another $900. Now I'm dizzy and exausted from the rush. I run into a friend who wants to have a drink and chill out so we sit down at 3 card poker and order some beers. In an hour there I go straight, straight, flush, he then hits 3 of a kind and on the next hand I get a straight flush. Off we go for sushi and saki.
All told after being ready to throw in the towel with a $20 bankroll I'm walking home with $4000 cash and $1500 in tournament entries. |
Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
In 2005 the Angels were at home vs. the worst team in the majors, the Royals. The soon to be Cy Young winner Bartolo Colon was pitching against the 2-6 Runelvys Hernadez. I thought this was about as much of a gimme as I could find so I layed the run and a half. The Angels came out swinging and had a 7-2 lead at the end of the 7th. The Angels had one of the better bullpens in the majors so I wasnt too worried. What transpired next was awful like Blazers drafting Sam Bowie awful. Colon was mowing down batters for the first seven innings, then he gave up two runs and got pulled. OK, Im still up 7-4 and we are heading into the 9th. Scot Shields comes in to close the door and gets the first two guys out. The next two batters then single and double to put guys on second and third. He then gives up a two run single to Tony Graffanino to make the score 7-6. Shields then strikes out the last batter to close the game and blow the cover for me. Thats right, I got backdoor covered because the Angels gave up 4 runs in the last two innings to the worst team in baseball. Note: Tony Graffanio went 5 for 5 with 3 rbis for the Royals this day. Thats right, a guy who is as much of a journeyman as Mike Morgan ended up pretending that he was Ted Williams for a day.

Danger, impending run-on sentence...
Did anyone see the news story about 3 months back about a guy who hit a big jackpot on a scratch ticket, then a local news crew asked him to re-enact the purchase and scratching for them and he hit another jackpot as they filmed him? I can't seem to google the video, but if someone finds it, please post. Pretty cool... |
Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
This happened in the summer of 2002 at the MGM in Vegas.
The fiance, now wife, and I are there on weekend getaway vacation from Phoenix. We fell in love with the MGM a while back and always go play $10 blackjack there for kicks. I sit down at a $10 table and can hear these people at the craps table just going insane, more than normal craps insanity. The wife goes over and finds two huge, like cage fighter huge, black dudes just steamrolling this $100 min bet table. She comes back and tells me about it, but I don't really think much of it. Fast forward about 15 minutes and I'm getting up to head to the cage to cash out my $10 winnings. As we're walking up the two guys from the craps table come walking up. It's like they're floating through the air, people are moving around them like they're famous. They are ecstatic, just can't contain themselves. They're screaming things like.... "YEAH! [censored] YEAH! EIGHTY MOTHA [censored] GRAND!" "AHHHH HA HA HA HA FUUUUUUUCKK, [censored] RICH! [censored] RICH!" They're exchanging high-fives, chest bumping, dancing all of that. They get up to the cage and get a check for $80,000 and they're both holding it, just can't belive it, going crazy. The wife and I laugh about it and head off to eat dinner at the MGM. About an hour later we're walking back to NYNY and low and behold, the same two guys, this time at a $500 min bet table are playing craps again. They've got the entire $80,000 plus some at this table in $500 and $1000 chips. This time they've got like six or seven hookers with them who are all holding them, kissing them, just all over them. Once again the wife and I laugh about it and we head off to a roulette table to gambool it up a bit. We put a $1 bet on 25, our anniversary date and end up hitting. I forget to remove my bet and it hits again. Yay! It's getting late and we're tired from the drive earlier in the day so we decide to call it quits. As we're walking back to the NYNY we once again pass our two craps playing friends... they've moved, to $10 table. They've got about $100 each in front of them in $5 chips and no hot hookers in sight. In fact, there's nobody at the table, just them. They look miserable, like they could die right there on the casino floor and be happier. Cliff's Notes: Two guys win more money than they've ever seen playing craps and lose it all in two hours. |

Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
My 2006 Crazy Casino Story:
In celebration of my 32nd bday, my wife and I head from our home in Ohio to hit a couple of the boats in Indiana. The first night, we go to Belterra for the night. After playing some 4/8 with the donkeys, I become a little guilty about leaving my wife alone in the casino and go to find her. We play a little blackjack and are ready to head to our room when I tell her that I need to go to the bathroom first. As I walk out of the bathroom, I see an American Beauty slot machine (which I had not seen before). As you may deduce from my name, I am a Deadhead and "American Beauty" is the name of one of their more famous albums. So, I drop a 50 into the dollar machine and 4-5 spins later - the machine locks up. I thought I hit something, but the damn thing jammed up. Then, I realized that I hit for 1200 bucks. They came and gave the W2G that I heard about in the past. Fast forward to the next night at Caesars Indiana. After playing 6/12 for several hours (and meeting the Jedi Buffet Master-Steam), my wife encouraged me to play some more slots. Caesars has this deal where they reimburse you for your losses up to a 100 dollars if you play for thirty minutes during the first day that you get a players card. I really did not want to play, but I wanted to drink a little more. So, we finally find an open machine (Caesars on a Friday night is pure madness) and I play for about ten minutes and hit a triple-triple-triple for the jackpot of 1875 bucks and yet another W2G. When the guy hand paid me, I asked him, "So, does this mean I won't get my hundred bucks?" and he actually snarled at me. No tip for you, jackass. It was an odd feeling walking around with >3K in my pockets. I kept feeling like someone was following me. The ironic thing about all this is that I always laughed at the hollow eyed junkies at the slots... |
Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
First time I ever played blackjack for money was at the 888 casino. Deposited $200, got the $200 bonus. Played until I was down to $198 and cashed it out.
Next day they gave me a $10 bonus. I won about $1500 and never played there again. |
Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
One of my first times in Vegas years ago I went to the Desert Inn (DI) to play blackjack. I flew in but didn't have any hotel reservations. I started off at a $10 table and the cards kept hitting. I mean it just kept going and within a few hours I was playing $100 per hand and sometimes I'd play $500 per hand. I was having the luckiest streak of my life. After a while the pit boss comes up and asks if I am staying there and when I tell him I'm not and need a room he offers to RFB me and gets me set up in a penthouse suite with these great windows with a clicker to open the drapes. At the time I was so naive and thought this was the best thing that ever happened to me (actually it probably was).
I stayed for 2 days and ended up with a great profit. I don't remember exactly how much it was but it was more than $8000. The hotel gave me a limo to the airport and a card with the casino hosts name and number to call anytime I wanted to play. From then on I would call in advance and they would pick me up at the airport in the DI limo and RFB me and I'd have a great time. Man, I wish they had never closed the DI. |

He wasn't even playing correctly according to dealers...plus he apparently was a jerk. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, the guy was a total prick. He called the female dealers and waitresses unspeakable names (made some of them cry), and stiffed everybody, male and female alike. If you're going to tell the TI story, you MUST include two things: The pork chop bones, and the shoes. He was eating his meals at the BJ table. For supper, he had pork chops. He was eating them with his fingers, and the cards were instantly ruined. When they got down to the cut card, it was time to bring in new cards. And the best part: when he was finished with a porkchop bone, he'd toss it over his shoulder, onto the floor. He was way up at the end of Day One, high six-figures. He wanted to go home, but the pit critters didn't want to let him go. They comped him a suite. He said he didn't have any clothes to change into. They sent him next door to the mall, and gave him a clothing shopping spree. He bought some nice clothes, and went upstairs to hit the hay. The next morning, he came down to the casino in a nice new outfit--and no shoes or socks. They told him he couldn't play in the casino with no shoes on. He asked in return, "What are you going to do about it?" They meekly caved, and he played Day Two barefoot. He continued to work them over, now into 7-figures. The story goes that when he lost his last chip, there was a security guard on either side of him, eager to show him to the door, and invite him to never return. |
Re: Any crazy casino gambling stories? (non poker)
Here'a my 2 cents:
a regular in Detroit got fed up with a dealers attitude and took his penis out and waved it at her telling her to suck it. He was barred for a year. Another player was drunk and urinated in a beer bottle under the table in order to avoid the long walk to the bathroom and missed blinds. He was kicked out permanently. Come and play poker in Detroit. -J |

[/ QUOTE ] So the kind hearted Steve Wynn version I heard was incorrect? Thanks for the details of this amazing story. My own "Best story": Wife and I go to Vegas for 4th of July. We drive from Colorado and stop in Mesquite on the way, where I win $100 playing BJ at the Casabalanca Casino. I keep the black chip. Once in Vegas, I lose everything. Then again. I Go to Atm, lose, wash, rinse and repeat several more times. Finally, (thankfully), it's time for the 7 hour drive home, and I'm hungover, tired, and broke....but I still have that $100 chip from the Casablanca in Mesquite. We stop in there, and I buy in at the craps table, where I a guy rolls point after point. I'm up $700 or so from the $100 buy-in and the lucky thrower tosses $100 on the hard eight. I figure, what the hay, I'm up (here at least), and toss a black chip on the hard eight. Next throw, hard eight for $1,000. Long story long: he keeps throwing, then I throw for a long time and cash out for $3 grand. Even for the trip, but it feels like I won huge. |
