So I'm in the parking garage looking for a spot when a group of people walk in front of my car taking up all the driving space so i go slowly behind them waiting for them to move out of the way. this goes on for like 20 seconds then the main girl in front of us turns around and realizes she was blocking our way. she was a white blonde girl probably 25-28. she sees me and my friend who is also asian in my passanger side seat and stares for like 4 seconds. then she clasps her hands together and does a 60 degree bow and then turns around and walks away with her friends.

and i turn to my friend and go "Wow, that was really racist!"

let's summarize.

based on the OP's description, the act was not vile, as dids suggested. it was good natured and likely intended to be funny.

was it ignorant? yes. she shouldn't be doing stuff like this to random people, because society has dictated that it is wrong, and some people would even consider it vile (see dids post).

Where do you read "good natured" into that. If you're really "good natured" you just get out of the way and maybe nod your head, you don't do some cheesy ignorant/racist/superhappyfuntimepartyofjoy bow. This is perhaps my disconnect with others, I just can't imagine that this person was trying to be funny and not insulting in some fashion.

i just don't think she intended to be rude.

if this had happened here in finland, i would be almost certain of that. people do stuff like that because they think its funny, but those of us who are a little more wordly realize how ignorant it is. it makes me cringe when i see people make obvious stupid jokes about cultural differences thinking they're funny and original because they only see foreigners once a week - what they don't realize is that those same foreigners deal with that crap constantly.

americans live in diversity and thus should know better, but some people are still really stupid and dont know better. i think this girl was really stupid. i dont think it was her intention to be rude.

I think it's pretty obvious that Dids, an ex-fatty, empathizes with every single person slighted about every little thing because he was once the person made fun of etc., and now he routinely acts to console and defend the "victims" of these heinous semi-crimes.

Of course it's ridiculous to be overly sensitive about crap like this, for the simple reason of self-preservation. Not getting pissed about every perceived slight = happier existence.

If I go out into Alabama and start offering strangers chitlins and watermelon while adopting (what I think is) a stereotypical southern dialect, it's racist despite my intentions.

This is an internet discussion forum.

CDC doesn't have to be full of rage or in tears to post an observation. I don't get that he's really "bothered" by his post, it happened, he post it, this is how message boards work.

I'm far less annoyed about the original incident than by the stupid analysis that I'm seeing on this forum after the fact. I agree that what the chick did wasn't like earthshakingly horrible, but it's still post worthy. If only because people's reactions show that the prevailing attitude is still far to accepting of this type of humor.

My objection to this stuff has nothing to do with being fat, I would never pretend that the being the subject of stupid fat jokes is anything close to being subject to racism.
