Do you like the DH poll
|
Re: Do you like the DH poll
yes of course i like it. the nl should have it.
|
Re: Do you like the DH poll
I think there should be 2 DH's, so those all-hit no-glove shortstops don't have to bat.
Also, the pitchers mound should be lowered by 6 inches. Also, I think having a "double homer" zone in certain parts of the outfield would be exciting too. |
Re: Do you like the DH poll
Pretty much everything from the MTV Rock 'n Jock softball games should be adopted by MLB.
|
Re: Do you like the DH poll
I like the DL, but I also think it's pretty cool how one league has it and one league doesn't. I wouldn't change that.
|
Re: Do you like the DH poll
Abomination!!! I'd rate it as only slightly less evil than Walter O'Malley.
|
Re: Do you like the DH poll
I also think you should be able to pick a hitter and have a penalty like in Co-ed softball, so that if you walk that hitter, the next hitter automatically gets a walk. I don't wanna see Barry Bonds walking all the time!
|
Re: Do you like the DH poll
Only purists don't like it, and we can rationally ignore them.
|
Re: Do you like the DH poll
it takes away the in game strategy... that's what i don't like about it
|
Re: Do you like the DH poll
Agreed, the DH just dumbs the game down a little bit.
I'm fine with the AL keeping it, but don't even start with the NL. |

Re: Do you like the DH poll
There's so little strategy anyway. Matter of fact, I can argue it enhances the relevant strategy.

The reason is because (imo) the coolest part of the DH is that one league has it and one doesn't. I like some variation in my life. |

Re: Do you like the DH poll
Yeah, what Triumph said. It offers more versatility and flexibility in the lineup, a whole extra roster spot that means a lot. It gives you the flexibility to deal with nursing injuries, and makes you think about the health issues involved with some type of players. Remember Manny's injury last year? He could've DHed and played through it more effectively if David Ortiz couldn't play anything but DH. That's strategy right there. It offers more platoon opportunities for guys who would otherwise not make it. It can get better guys in the lineup, guys who make baseball a better game, or it can exacerbate your horrible management (see: Twins).
This can have a 3-8 win impact on your season. The strategy without the DH is more plentiful, and you have more sheer options, which makes people think it's more strategical, but it doesn't have nearly as big an impact. A manager can bungle it all the time and it's not going to be a huge deal; bungle the DH and you get the Twins. |

yes of course i like it. [/ QUOTE ] Of course TheRover likes it! What a stupid question! Can't believe that all you baseball nerds aren't against the DH. I abhor it, but of course it will never go away since the union will always be there to support the aging fatasses that fill that spot in the lineup. |
Re: Do you like the DH poll
The DH should be required to bat 9th.

Re: Do you like the DH poll

I think there should be 2 DH's, so those all-hit no-glove shortstops don't have to bat. [/ QUOTE ] Might as well allow 9 DH's then. I remember the good old days of the 1986 Mets, where they basically had a bunch of DH's (Strawberry, Howard Johnson, Kevin Mitchell) playing the field. Put your best 9 hitters in the game, put your best 9 fielders in the game. If they overlap, so be it, but otherwise let's see the best guys out there. Should also give a bunch of all-hit/no-field minor leaguers more jobs if they expand the rosters. |

Re: Do you like the DH poll
OK, my take.
It's an abomination, and I hate it. I hate that it creates players that strictly play on offense (DH's) and defense (pitchers). This is baseball, not football. I hate that it takes away double switches, pinch hit situations, and crucial late game decisions about pulling your pitcher. I hate that pitchers can throw at guys carte blanche and not have to face opposing pitchers who can throw at them. I hate that sluggers can get lazy and out of shape, but still demand top salaries because they can swing the bat and not be a defensive liability. I hate that many little leagues have the rule, and some kids never get the opportunity to bat. I hate when they muck with the rules to try and generate offense because some fans get "bored" with lower scoring games. Baseball was healthier (and better IMHO) before DH's, juiced balls and steroids. I know I am older (40+) than most here and prefer the "pure" game, and perhaps I am in the minority, but I hate the DH. Flame away. |

Re: Do you like the DH poll
Mano,
While I disagree with your opinion, (like I've said I like the DH), you made a very good argument about why you don't like it with valid opinions. Definitely a good, flame-proof post. [ QUOTE ] I hate that many little leagues have the rule, and some kids never get the opportunity to bat. [/ QUOTE ] I never thought about that, that's an excellent point. |

[/ QUOTE ] I didn't get to bat when I was on the varsity baseball team in high school because my stupid coach didn't let pitchers hit. Well, I did get to bat once and somehow, despite my horrible bat speed that resulted from zero batting practice in two years, I hit a line drive single to right. [ QUOTE ] There's so little strategy anyway. Matter of fact, I can argue it enhances the relevant strategy. [/ QUOTE ] Ok, go for it. [/ QUOTE ] The relevant strategy is the mano e mano battle between hitter and pitcher. We're losing that nearly 10% of the time in the NL. Another huge positive for the DH is it keeps star players around much longer than they would have been otherwise. Think Jim Thome, Frank Thomas..etc. The game is better because Frank Thomas can still do what he does best, which is hit, while nobody has to watch him field. My solution is to make the body armour a requirement for all players and add the DH to the NL. |

Re: Do you like the DH poll
the DH is good for the game. Bunts are boring, home runs are exciting. period. I don't really care how "hardcore" a fan you are, but to the masses, they dont give a flying [censored] about some perfectly layed down bunt, but love to see someone smack one out of the park.

Now you kids with your loud music and your Dan Fogelberg ,your Zima, hula hoops and Pac-Man video games, don't you see? ...... ....We can start fresh. Not allow teams to change cities or... players to be traded. And everybody will get paid the same! Just like when I was a kid, and players were treated like, like... Coop: Indentured servants? Those are the good old days. craig |
Re: Do you like the DH poll
Anti-DH crowd,
If baseball always had the DH in both leagues, would you be clamoring for its removal? |
Re: Do you like the DH poll
Yeah, getting zeros out of 3-4 spots out of your lineup which should be extremely productive is how I want my team managed.
|
Re: Do you like the DH poll
Most decisions managers make are automated. I doubt the DH has much of an impact on strategy.
