Vegas Trip Report Day 1. Warning: Low poker content.

So I headed to Vegas for a short trip from Thursday through Sunday. I went with my wife as a little getaway for our 6th Anniversary. Ok, get your laughing out of the
way before you read on or stop here.6th Anniversay???? This guy is an old bastard and why in the hell is he in Vegas with his wife? He doesn't belong on 2+2!!!! Truth is my wife is a bigger degan than me and loves Vegas. This is our 15th trip in 6 years so we like to think we know what the hell is
going on down there. On to the details:

So we land in Vegas at about noon on Thursday and I get colddecked to begin with and then just get outplayed.

Hand #1: We have to wait 30 minutes on the runway before our gate opens. Add that to the fact we were in the 2nd to last row and it takes forever just to get off the plane. We're in Vegas.... WE WANT OFF NOW!!!

Hand #2: We go over to the rental car place and wait 40 minutes in line only to realize I was a preferred member and my car was waiting. Sir, you don't have to wait in line your car is ready. Obviously I was dealt a good hand and played it poorly.

Hand #3: We haven't rented a car in Vegas since they opened the new car rental center so I took a wrong turn and it took us another 20 minutes to get near the strip. Again, I was outplayed on this hand. Man I suck.

Hand #4: We are thirsty so the wife says let's pool into Hooters for some Wings and Beer. Well who can say no to that? I get in line and the Mrs. is very thirsty so she
runs out to the pool to get herself a frozen drink. I make it inside and she sits down shortly thereafter. She tells me about this drunk girl who is showing off and falling all over the place and these are her words, not mine. "This girl is out there looking to get [censored]. She is not great looking, but has a great body. Tight body with big boobs and as long as she keeps her shades on she looks great." Well I want to see this [censored] and luckily we are sitting right by the big glass garage doors and can she the action. Hot chic is going under the water falls and just putting on quite a show and from the my distance she looks pretty damn good. After watching 5 guys make no progress my wife is getting pissed. Hot chic wants it and no one can do a thing. She then says "If someone doesn't take care of her I am going to send you out there." I of coarse fold AA face up preflop and my wife wasn't even in the hand. One heck of a bluff.

Hand#5: Check into the Mirage and everything goes smooth. Get into the room and have to go to the bathroom after 6 LandSharks and the damn toilet seat drops and continues to do that the whole trip. Bad Beat!

Hand #6: Time to find some dinner. As we are wandering around looking for a decent place we encounter the Wheel of Fortune slots(or shall we call them the Wheel of
Death). I throw a Benjy in and it steals it in what seemed like 7 seconds. The hovering slot whore sits in when I get up and hit the wheel on the third pull for $400. I hate Las Vegas and where the hell is the drink lady?

Break time: We hit Samba for dinner which is a Brazilian Steakhouse and both order the Rodizio which is an all you can eat BBQ type thing. They cool on skewers and then bring it out and shave a portion onto your plate. They has a couple different beefs, chicken, turkey, ribs and fish. Something like 10 different things. It was a good meal and a kinda fun thing to do. I would give it a B and would return.

We decide to take it easy and just gamble a little the rest of the night. Played some BJ and Slots and I paid alot for my free drinks. They paid my wife to drink.

Day #1 Scorecard. Me: -450 Wife +650 Man I suck.
(golf clap) for the Mrs. She grinds away at $10 hand while I donk it off at $25+. We were drunk when we got to bed around 2am(hey I'm old) and that was good news for me [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

I shall continue on if anyone is interested. Preview to days 2,3 and 4. More drinking, eating, gambling, shows and a sighting of Bobby Baldwin.

Good so far. Wheel of Fortune is just about the worst slot machine you can play, but no one can resist anyway because everyone wants to spin the damn wheel. Looking forward to more.

Re: Vegas Trip Report Day 1. Warning: Low poker content.

Day #2.

Again the day starts out with a bad beat. I am not sure if you have ever stayed at the Mirage, but it is a fairly decent place. It's not up there with the Wynn, but much better than the Flamingo range. Well you can hear every door close within 7 floors. It is ridiculous. So after finally getting into a nice deep sleep the alarm goes off at 5:30. Are you [censored] kidding me? We are both not happy about this, but after an hour of tossing around we decide to go mess around a little downstairs. First we grab a coffee and hit the big Wheel of Death. It has large(semi life sized) wheel where everyone sits around it and when you hit the coveted bonus spin it goes around like the real Wheel of Fortune. Ok, let's give this a try. They have double seats so we snuggle up like a couple of love birds and let the games begin. In goes Bengy #1. So we play max lines and max bet. It turns out to be $3.75 per spin and Bengy #1 is gone without hitting the bonus round. Insert Bengy number 2 and slide the bet down to $1.50 We hit the bonus a few times and build up to $150 and cut our losses there. They should really let you spin the damn thing to get rid of your aggression!

Now we run up to the room and put on the suits and hit the pool for a bit. We just chill there for an hour and grab a quick bite at the California Pizza Kitchen. It was fine. So it’s around noon and my wife want to do a little shopping a catch a nap. I politely decline and soon after realize that a nap probably wasn’t really a nap. I think about it for about 10 seconds and decide it’s time for some poker and I’ll get her tonight when she is good and drunk LOL I get on the waiting list for 2/5 and 1/2 and after about 10 minutes they open up a new table and I end up in lucky #5. Only 3 of buy in for the full $200 and the rest are anywhere from $50-$100. About 3 hands in I was in MP and the guy 2 to my rate raises to $10 and I raise to $20 with pocket 10’s. Everyone folds around and he thinks for like 10 seconds and calls. Flop is A106 with two spades. He checks and I fire out $50 which puts him all in. He thinks for about 30 seconds and says I guess I have to call even though I hate that flush draw. He flips over bullets for a flopped set. What is there to think about you nit? Sad part is the next two cards where spades, but I didn’t have one. Down $100. There was so much limping going on that every time I had late position I would raise to $12 without even looking at my cards and must have won between 8-10 pots of around $10 to get my stack build up. I also won a pot when I was in the bb with J2 and the flop was JJ2 and won $100 of some nit that limped in late position with KK.

I had built my stack back to about $210 at this point and the following hand occurred. I was in the cutoff with AA and the kid to my right called a middle position raise of $10. I raised to $30 hoping to get to heads up and everyone folded except righty. He flat called. Now up to this point he had been playing very tight and was doing fairly well. He was one of the better players at the table. We had shown each other a few laydowns each of us made and I had a pretty good idea of his range.
The flop comes KT9 rainbow and he had checked in the dark. I bet $40, but being the live nit that I am I did not say how much I was betting so I pushed $20 over the line and was reaching for another $20. Oops… bet is $20 now. He then raised to $75. I thought about it for a few seconds and thought he was either on AK or KK with a slight chance for QJs or something. I tried to convince myself he had AK and to push, but he seemed like he had something so I laid it down. He showed me the KT for 2 pair. It turned out to be a good laydown, but my read was a little off and I wouldn’t have expected him to play a KT oop. Was it a good read? Probably not…LOL I want to take credit for it though.

I pick up a few more small pots and one $100 pot where my A6 flush beat a KQ flush. I limped in early position and flopped the nuts. GG me. It was getting time to head up and get ready for the night so I was going to play one more orbit. I was in about middle position and woke up with AA. I decide a small raise to $10 to try and get some action. The dude to my left had just sat and doubled up when he sucked out with a river flush so he had somewhere around $400. He put in a small raise to $20 and everyone folded back around to me. So I raise another $50 and he says all in. Perfect. I am going to walk away with $480 profit in 2 hours after my aces hold up. He flips over his KK. No need to go any further because of course he flopped a K and stacked me. I headed to my room pissed off.

I felt like I played pretty good and couldn’t ask for a better situation. My 3 observations:
1) Vegas Sucks
2) Live Poker is EX
3) Live Poker is Sloooooowwww.

I head up to the room and hear the great news. My wife’s friend from LA is in Vegas with her [censored] boyfriend. I am overly excited about this development and I get ready so we can meet them for drinks. Here is the plan. First, we meet them for a couple of drinks, second we tell them we have dinner reservations and have to go and lastly we are going to see Rodney Carrington at the MGM.

We head down to the Beatles “Love” lounge to meet them for a drink. So we all order beers and Mr. Generous cracks out the wallet and buys the first round. Ok, well I can deal with them for a while. Time for the 2nd round so we get 3 beers and Mr. Generous orders an $18 white Russian. No big deal until the 3rd round and he is back on the beer and he hits the white Russian on my turn again. Time for a bathroom break, as I need to contemplate this situation. WTF is going on out there? Is he really ordering cheap(well $6 cheap) when he buys and expensive stuff when I am paying? So I get the look from my wife that it is time to excuse ourselves for dinner, but I am getting a little drunk and I want revenge. Round #5 and he orders a beer and I get a Grey Goose/Red Bull. How do you like that you [censored]? Round #6 and my plan is to time it perfect where the bar maid is busy and I have to run to the bar for the drinks. I execute the plan perfectly and get him a beer. Ok, I feel better about things. Although it took me a while to adjust I took him down in the end. It’s about 6:30 by now I decide that we are skipping dinner and getting hammered. I do this without my wife’s consent, but she goes for it. We head over to the MGM and have a few more drinks and hit Rodney. We are both drunk and laughing and pretty much anything any of the opening acts say. Rodney comes on and is funny as ever, but only stayed on 40 minutes so that was a little disappointing. He was well worth the price of admission though.

We made a trip over to Light at about 11 to meet some friends who have a table there. Few more drinks and some dancing and a great time.

Now let me tell you a little more about Light. I am hammered by the time I get there and so my first trip to the bathroom it is like 10 deep. This is ridiculous. So I finally make my turn and having nothing smaller than a $20 I decide to be generous and give it to the attendant. This was the best $20 I ever spent. He had the private stall waiting for me and front of the line access all night long. He dried my hands for me and had the link remover on me while I washed my hands. This was the best part of my trip….

Head back to the Mirage and eat something in the Café before bed. My wife throws in $20 in a slot on the way to the room and cashes for $150. She is good. I still suck.

Day 3 includes some minor things and a few exciting things like seeing Bobby Baldwin and the Fergie concert at the Palms.

Stay tuned!

Re: Vegas Trip Report Day 1. Warning: Low poker content.

I forgot one point to day #2. When we went to the MGM for Rodney valet would not park us. I said we where there for the show and they said hotel guests only. We are full. I was feeling lazy and I pulled out a $20 and he still said no. Anyone ever hear of that before? What a ripoff. Luckily I found a great spot nezt to the stairs that lead through the shops and into the lobby area.

2nd side note. The Mirage has a north valet. Nobody uses it except at night when they are going to Jet. Under 30 seconds every time. Don't tell anyone about this though. I want to keep it a hidden treasure. [img]/images/graemlins/grin.gif[/img]

Standard for hotel valet to fill up early on weekends. Some (like PH) won't take non-hotel guests at any time, unless you grease them.

Certainly seems that way. Your play was pretty good, though possibly not punishing enough. I would have waited for his round and said "great idea, man. let's get a round of white russians this time."

Oh, and I personally favor the idea that your wife wanted to sex0r the girl at Hooters with you for some wild 3some. But that's just me.

Nice trip report. Day 3 gogogo.

Mustbeblufin 08-01-2007 11:53 AM

Re: Vegas Trip Report Day 1. Warning: Low poker content.

Day 3:

Early up again… about 9 AM and it is our anniversary. 6 great years and it has been a great trip and nice for just the two of us to get away. I get a nice morning treat and my beautiful bride heads down for coffee. I suggested room service, but she wanted to head down. She takes an awful long time and comes back $250 richer. This time she found the generic wheel of death(called wheel of gold I think) and hit a couple of good ones. Obviously it is +ev for me to stay in the room.

Morning game plan: First, we hit the Secret Garden at the Mirage and see the dolphins and tigers and stuff. Second, we hit Madame Tussauds at the Venetian. It is a wax museum and I was pleasantly surprised. It was cool. Next we head over to the Rio and grab some lunch and then to the Palms to try and get a dinner reservation. Yeah I know it is late, but we tried anyways. No luck. We may as well hit the Gold Coast while we are here and play some cheap blackjack. They have $5 tables there. SO my wife keeps grinding and I am quickly bored and raise it up to $10-$15 and and down $100. So then I use start pushing my bet when I win starting with $10-$20-$40-$80 and decide $80 is where I will pull back to $10 and start over. I go on a couple of good rushes and end up $250 and my wife is -$50. I am a truly great blackjack player.

We head back to the Mirage and I really need to find a good place for dinner or I am a dead man. I end up getting us in at Kokomo’s. This turned out great. It is surrounded by waterfalls and lots of natural light coming in. We started with clam chowder and Caesar salad and just split the 2. The chowder was great and the salad was above average. My wife decides on prime rib and I go for the surf and turf. 9 oz. filet and a 16 oz lobster tail. The prime rib must have been 30 oz. It was HUGE. I cut my steak with a fork and my lobster was really good. Service was outstanding. I would go back in a second. Although this isn’t the best place we have been… it was a great meal. I would give it a B+ just because there is better.

I’ll finish up day 3 later today.

Good report...keep it coming.

Mustbeblufin 08-01-2007 05:16 PM

Re: Vegas Trip Report Day 1. Warning: Low poker content.

Ok…time to finish up. I’d like to add we had Crčme Brulee for dessert. It was 3 different kinds. Berry, vanilla and chocolate. It was tasty. So after dinner we head over to the Palms for the Fergie concert in their fairly new Pearl venue. The place is a madhouse. We go across Wynn Ave.(I think) and it takes us directly into the Palms. Cars are everywhere and valet is backed way up and can’t take cars at the moment because there is no room in front until they can move them. They have a security guy directing traffic to self park and just as I am pulling in a cabbie goes into the wrong place and this pisses off security so he is yelling and walking over to the cabbie. Score one for me as I see an opening and quickly pull in and jump out of the car and grab a kid to take my car. Security sees and says there was no room, but I am long gone and ignoring him by then. I give valet $5 and they are happy. We head in and have a couple of drinks to get our groove going and then head in for the show. Rooney is the opening act and they are pretty good. The Pearl only about half full at this point. We are feeling good and into about 7 drinks including a big dinner. Rooney ends so we head into a bar run and bathroom break. I am standing in line and listening to a 60 year old guy talk about how hot the 15 year old girls are and he can’t wait until the are legal. I am a little disturbed by this. He is wearing those plastic pants that are supposed to look like leather and it is quite funny. So as he turns around and he looks at me and asks if I like all the girls. I just laughed and said “Nice pants you old perv” and got a nice chuckle from the guys around. I finish up and am walking out and there is a guy standing in the right line blocking my path. I get to him and say “excuse me” but he does nothing. He is kinda turned to the side looking away like he can’t see me or something. WTF is this. So I just rubberneck around to where he can see me and yell “HEY!!!” He looks at me and I just say “Move” and he does. I wasn’t starting anything, but had no need for this douchbag’s nonsense. We hit the bar and 3 more drinks for each of us to get us through the show and keep us going. I am drinking double vodka Red Bulls and my wife is drink double vodka cran. They use a gun for the booze so 1 shot isn’t enough, but 2 is more than plenty. Lots of vodka. I get one down and my lush is into her third when the show starts.

Now keep in mind we are old. Ok not that old as I am 30, but we don’t party much anymore so this is a lot for us. I am feeling really good and she is even better. On comes Ms. Fergie herself. I don’t care what anyone else says, but she is on hot little number. She is putting on a heck of a good show and we are dancing and singing and having a great time. Plus the girl next to my wife was dancing with her so that was hot. We had a great time and lots of celebs at the concert. Paris and Nicki Hilton, Mario Lopez, Macy Grey and a bunch of others are there. We donk it off at the bl table and decide it’s time to go home since we have a 6am flight. Who books a flight that early. I suck.

So we head back to the Mirage and hit the old coveted North valet. Well apparently Jet is a happening night club because it is packed. As we are getting out of the car and are walking in I hear one of the valet’s say “that’s Bobby Baldwin”. I get a look at him and I guess it was him except I was hoping he still had the fro LOL. We walk past Jet and think about going in but decide against it. Off to bed.

No Vegas trip report should end without having to run to your plane. We were late as hell and security was long. I don’t think we can make it as it is 10 minutes before our flight and we haven’t even got all the way through security yet. I am planning for another night and my wife is freaking because she wants to get home to our 2 year old son. She says we have to run. We hit the shuttle and when we get off it is 4 minutes before scheduled take off. There is no way they will let us on. She takes off and tells me to get going. I am carrying all the stuff and am ready to pass out when I get to the top of the stairs. We are gate D4 so not far to go, but I need oxygen. She is still running full speed ahead and makes that gate and I hear her calling my name to hurry and they ended up letting us on the plane. That was close!! She was happy and we all know that a happy lady keep the house a happy place.

It was a great trip and she is already planning another one. October she says.

I hope you enjoyed my first trip report and until next time….

I may consider the “Best of Trip Report” down the line and hit all the notable events from some of our other trips.
