Football trick play
|
Re: Football trick play
This has actually been done and worked for a TD in a high school game.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YnnnnyMjCw What confuses the other team is the fact that the center does not have to snap the ball to the QB between his legs, he can snap it around the side if he so chooses. Perfectly legal and definitely a good trick play... although kinda a lame to pull on a bunch of 10-12 year olds though. |
Re: Football trick play
Very sweet play. Here's one where the running back hides behind the offensive line and takes off after a fake QB draw.

Re: Football trick play
We used to run all kinds of trick plays. Hell by 11 years old pitchers were taught to throw the batter's head if you saw the guy at third break on a suicide squeeze. But now as I'm older these plays just look lame and sad. Do we really need this stuff in pee wee games?
We would run a wrong ball trick off soccer corner kicks. It obvious worked in a huge game and the kid got five feet from the goal and shanked it. |
Re: Football trick play
The coach should be ashamed.
I would pull my kid out of any team that pulled this sort of stunt. |

Re: Football trick play
Trick plays like that does not equal football. they're fking lame
|
Re: Football trick play
It's not for fun. It should be. This move is for wankers.

Re: Football trick play
I coached 7-8 yr olds in football. Obviously at that age punting will only gain you maybe 10 yards in field position. I put in a play I called the "hold it" play. Once at the line of scrimmage the quarterback would look confused, hold up both arms and yell out hold it. He would then start walking to the sideline as if there was timeout when in fact he was in motion. We would then snap the ball to the upback catching the other team napping.
I only used this play once in a 4th and forever situation. The kids loved it. The opposing coach just smiled and shook his head. Maybe a bush league move but it was fun. IIRC Kurt Warner pulled this during a St Louis Rams game the next season. |

Re: Football trick play
These kinds of plays suck for 2 reasons:
1) They're lame as [censored] 2) They're dangerous as [censored]. If a defending player had known what was going on and had tackled that kid he would probably be in the hospital. The defending players know this and it puts them in a very lame situation. We'll it could be a trick play in which case I need to go tackle the guy or it may be a ligament problem in which case if I tackle the guy I'll have hurt him for no reason and probably get a penalty. These kind of plays weren't legal in any leagues I ever played in and I'm pretty happy about that. |

Also, i'm sure a defender who has figured it out would just hit stick the QB and injure him. Seems about right. SIGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH No nits in LOL pls |
Re: Football trick play
You guys are probably the same people that hated the statue of liberty play that Boise St. did in the bowl game.

Re: Football trick play
I should clarify my stance, if the game is being played at any sort of decent level of competition than I'm all FOR trick plays, it's the other teams responsibility to be ready for them, they are part of the game.
I was just saying a play like this against 10 year olds is kind of like shooting fish in a barrel. These kids barely understand the fundamentals so they clearly are not going to be ready for some obscure rule about a sideways snap being legal. |
Re: Football trick play
This is not a legal play. The refs should throw an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. When I get home to my rulebook, I'll cite the rule.
|
Re: Football trick play
These are kids. They are learning. This is stupid at this level.
At the right level it might be a good play - particularly if the joker got smashed. It might even be hilarious. |
Re: Football trick play
Those kids did learn something, DUCY?
|
Re: Football trick play
They were taught to angle shoot and got cheered on when they did it.

Re: Football trick play
My favorite trick play is when the QB pretended to have a seizure and cut himself and you have a woman yell "OH MY GOD Don't touch him he has AIDS!" Then have the "trainer" hide out behind the end-zone and have two of his players carry him there with the ball.

Re: Football trick play
Isnt most of the deception after a legal snap?

Re: Football trick play

You guys are probably the same people that hated the statue of liberty play that Boise St. did in the bowl game. [/ QUOTE ] The play posted in the OP is nothing like the statue of liberty play. edited to add: running a misdirection play after the snap is nothing like yelling to your coach before the snap that the wrong ball is in play and having him take part in the ploy by throwing another ball into the air. you're basically saying any attempt to trick the defense is the same, that this bush league play is no different than play action, a pump fake, a reverse, etc. |

lol such [censored] nits. and all the deception comes after the snap, making it legal [/ QUOTE ] Nope. The center yells, "Wrong ball!" before the snap. |
Re: Football trick play
One could equate the center yelling "Wrong ball" with the defense yelling "Hike!" (or Hutt) at the center.
This is explictilty illegal in football, the defense can't yell fake snaps to trick the center into hiking it early. |

Re: Football trick play
I always like the "oopty oop" run by Jonathan Moxon of the West Caanan Coyotes. Pure brilliance.
