I had a fairly similar first semester myself, though I had Comp Sci I instead of English and Intro to Economics instead of philosophy. I got a 3.6 (A A B+ B). Best of luck to you. |
Re: college grades...
do you think it's a waste to take calc one after getting two fives?
|
Re: college grades...
Is your college giving you credit for it?
If it is, yes. Otherwise, I see no reason not to take it. |
Re: college grades...
no i can take w/e i want
suppose i wanna transfer do you think it looks retarded then? |

Re: college grades...
they'll see my high school classes
don't worry about it? |
Re: college grades...
If you're not getting credit for your APs, then it's only logical to take it.
|
Re: college grades...
With those vanilla classes and the fact that you only have 4 there is no real reason why you shouldnt get good grades, maybe even great ones.
1. You're already very good at Calc (apparently). 2. Psych is a joke. 3. Freshman English is generally a joke but can be challenging (maybe take an Honors course?) 4. Intro to Philosophy can be very stimulating, but is also pretty easy. If you can create a coherent argument at all then you should be fine. |
Re: college grades...
is psych always a joke?
i'm not worried about calc but am somewhat worried about psych...i'm not really interested in struggling with a class... |
Re: college grades...
Intro psych tests at my school were always 50 multiple choice questions. That and the fact that psych is such a huge area with so many different varieties (bio, developmental, cognitive, social, etc.) makes it hard for a whole lot of specifics to be covered in Intro Psych. It's basically just a glossing over of everything.
So in my experience, yes, always a joke. |

At my college it had the reputation of being the second easiest class there (just behind something called "Deep Listening," whatever that is). |
Re: college grades...
is it based on memorizing or having decent science skills or what?
|
Re: college grades...
For me, it was reading the textbook and attending half of the lectures. I didn't take notes while reading and took only a few notes during lecture. Your mileage may vary.

Re: college grades...
If you try, you should be fine. Your classes are pretty much a joke.
|
Re: college grades...
isn't this a fairly standard freshman fall course load? what here is slacker?
|
Re: college grades...
compete for knowledge, not grades
|
Re: college grades...
I took Fitness Walking for my PE at NCSU...take that class at your school if they offer it

Re: college grades...
what liberal arts college?

compete for knowledge, not grades [/ QUOTE ] lol. Very little of the worthwhile knowledge one obtains in college comes from the lecture hall. I do understand what you are trying to say though. But everyone needs to figure out what they want from college on their own. A good way to start is with an easy course load that keeps the stress level down while you get acclimated to things. |

Liberal Arts colleges typically have full time faculty teaching freshman English, and that can make it more difficult than a large school, where TAs are teaching it. I always found philosophy professors to grade tough. |
Re: college grades...
Man, stop being a girl. If you're worried about an intro to psych class then god help you later on. college is easy if you work once in awhile. gl to you

Re: college grades...
All of these are retardly easy with the exception of freshman english.
I got 5's on AP lit & AP lang, and never had to take it. But i know of MANY people who got their only b bc of stupid TA's giving everyone in the class of 300 a B+ to B-. Teh problem is not a hard teacher, its a disinterested teacher. once they've read 100 papers, everything is a B. I feel so lucky i didnt ruin my 4.0 (got ruined a year later by other stuff) freshman year with english. The teachers were a joke from what i heard, but gave like 5% A's. |

its a disinterested teacher [/ QUOTE ] Maybe its cause you need to work on the difference between uninterested and disinterested. Please don't quote me an antiquated usage as validation plskthx. Side Note: I hope all decision makers are disinterested. |
Re: college grades...
Thremp,
nice. OP, I bet you could take the psych final NOW and get a reasonable grade if you have some knowledge of trivia, logic, and multiple choice concepts. Attend a few lectures and do whatever you need to do to memorize a few lists, and it's an A fo sho. |

Grade deflation makes college hard

Re: college grades...
its all about how dedicated of a student you are. if you're willing to put in the time to learn the material you'll get the grades.
side note, i found high school success did not correlate very well to college success. |
Re: college grades...
In my experience, college grades, especially early on, were more about discipline and adjusting to newfound freedom than anything else.
As far as the calc, that seems like a good question for your academic adviser. But to me, it seems silly to take a class like that just to give yourself a lighter load. Save those opportunities for your junior/senior years, when you'll really appreciate them. |
