getting robbed at Los angeles Casinos
I have had a few friends get robbed at the Hawain gardens and Commerce. The usual senerio is my friends play poker in the casino for a few hours, then when they walk out to there car a group of guys show them guns and pistol whip my friends and they take there wallets/purses. This has happened 3 times this year already and the security there never seems to know what is happening. Hope some corrupt security guards arent involved with these things.

Re: getting robbed at Los angeles Casinos
Don't these places have valet? Seems like paying for it might be +EV
|
Re: getting robbed at Los angeles Casinos
At commerce if you're concerned just ask security for an escort.
|
Re: getting robbed at Los angeles Casinos
I guess everyone must get an escort to be totally safe.
|
Re: getting robbed at Los angeles Casinos
Pretty lame. These casinos should beef up their parking lot security and be held accountable in some way for robberies that take place on their property.
|
Re: getting robbed at Los angeles Casinos
why on earth would anyone walk near a bunch of guys in a casino parking lot.

Your friends must be dumb. If you dont learn the 1st time.....I dont know what to say. You dont realize that every casino in LA is compton, gardena, or some idustrial areas? I wont even go to the Hustler again, just because of the type of people that go there. VALET your car, pretty easy. Better yet, give the valet guy $10 to park your car right outside. |
Re: getting robbed at Los angeles Casinos
Do the L.A. casinos like Commerce and the Bike have safety deposit boxes in their cages for regular players? If I were a regular player I wouldn't even cash out my chips if they had this option. Naturally, you would need the ability to wire funds to your bank account. Do the casinos provide the service of wiring funds out?
Finally, are these criminals inside the casino watching the mark to ensure they have a good amount of cash on them or are they just randomly selecting folks as they leave not knowing what type of cash they have on them? |

One of my friends was a lady she went to go play a small buy in tournament at the hawaiin gardens and as she was about to get into her car they pistol whipped her and took her purse. she is terrified to ever go into a poker casino again and she only plays online now. They found her purse a few days later but the case remains open. Security didnt see anything not even on there cameras. I mean i have heard of home invasian robberies but give me a break. |

Just put 150 in one wallet and the rest in another and put it down your pants. |

You forgot -stay home and play online -go to las vegas casinos [/ QUOTE ] Do you live in Los Angeles? Do you play at the casinos? How has your experience been? I'm asking b/c it's unclear to me whether you were present during any of these robberies or were the victim yourself once. I play occasionally at Commerce and have yet to encounter a dangerous situation. I make sure to either valet or park very close to the entrances: by the valet on the back or the shuttle tent on the side (where usually there are guards or workers sitting and chatting). I have never parked at the edges of the lot. I also don't go straight from the cage to the lot. I also actually prefer the open lot at Commerce to, for example, a structure that requires stairs or an elevator. I don't like to mix enclosed spaces with potentially unsafe situations. I haven't played at other L.A. casinos but I don't feel "safer" at Vegas casinos, especially some lots (like MGM's). It's just never going to be 100% guaranteed to be a perfect experience at a casino and that's why I have to take personal responsibility for my safety and not rely on the casino to protect me. |
Re: getting robbed at Los angeles Casinos
I have only played at vegas or laughlin casinos and i feel very safe all the time. I never been to a los angeles casino but i wanted to in the past but i will never go after what has happened to my friends and neither will they.

Re: getting robbed at Los angeles Casinos
your friends must be total tards.
seriously 3 times? do these guys just happen to be the 3 luckiest or the 3 dumbest plp on earth? i have done "the walk" countless times at both commerce and hawaiian with str8 G's in my pocket. ive never had a problem. i have parked far before and done this at 9pm and 9am, 4am and 4pm, and every hour in between. just dont be stupid and be observant. look around you, look behind you, see if anyones following you, etc. walk with your head up. Dont act like a victim and you wont become a victim. |

You guys might be getting leveled. OP has the grammar and dictation of a 6th grader.
Nevertheless, of course, watch your surroundings and be aware when leaving a casino. |

I would suggest a concealed .38 Not a spinning back kick [/ QUOTE ] Carrying a firearm is srsly srsly illegal in CA, so it's not an option for me. Not everyone that will try to rob you will have a gun. Some of these people will be your opponents at the table that lost a lot. Maybe you said the wrong thing to them and they took it very personally. Maybe they hate you because you're the wrong race, and you took their rent money. Notice in that situation, handing over your wallet just isn't an option. All they want to do is hurt you. Also, carrying a gun is a fairly poor defense against someone else who is armed with a gun. They aren't going to give you time to pull your weapon. If your assailant flashes his piece, and screams "hand over your money" and he sees a gun in your beltline at any point, he might lose control and shoot you. |
Re: getting robbed at Los angeles Casinos
all: Watch the movie California Split to see what its like when you put your opponent on life tilt and he attacks you in the parking lot as you leave the card room.

Re: getting robbed at Los angeles Casinos
Isn't the commerce suppose to be a safe place? I mean there have the WPT tour in Commerce on tv and that should make it a safe place won't it? Granted, i am from new york so i don't know that much about LA.
Isn't Los angeles mostly about the stars and glamour. I know there is the whole thing about Compton and South Central I heard about and from the movies they depict. Is the Commerce located at a very bad location? |

[/ QUOTE ] In California, you can open up a Players Bank Account at the Cage. Its very similar to a passbook savings account, that pays no interest. I would believe some players do not like the idea that this account could be traced and used by taxing authorities to audit your returns. As for the parking lots, if you have a lot of cash, use the valet parking, less than the cost of a meal inside the casino. When I don't valet park, I like to walk and converse on the phone till I am inside the car. At least I know, if something happens then the person on the other line will call 911 immediately. |

Re: getting robbed at Los angeles Casinos
Sorry to hear about your situation w/ your friends. 3 robberies in less than one year seems pretty awful. I noticed that you didn't mention Hollywood Park Casino. I've personally been robbed there @ gunpoint and of all the L.A. Casino's this is the one where personal theft is most rampant. Like I said sorry to hear about your situation but there are some safegaurds you can take to remedy the problem. (valet park, security escort, stay away from Hollywood Park)

Ask the concierge? I'm too cheap to valet, so when I showed up and parked in the way way back lot at 2:30am this morning, the security guard actually drove over, and stopped me as I was getting out of my car. He looks at me like I'm crazy and asks "why are you parking all the way back here" lolol |
Re: getting robbed at Los angeles Casinos
I asked one of my martial arts instructors about personal self defense in the parking lot. He's a great fighter, and a fulltime cop. He showed me the following items that he had on his person. The first was a flashlight. He shined it into my eyes in broad daylight outside, and it was BRIGHT. Just a quick flash, and I had a bad sunspot obscuring my vision for many seconds thereafter. I think it would badly blind someone at night. It's specifically designed to do so actually.
There are many different models of this flashlight. You can find them here Another very nifty item is this pepper spray. It's simply the best designed pepper spray I have ever seen. The safety is extremely easy to pop off and it blasts out from the bottom. Check it out here at ASP's website. They also sell collapsible batons, which are srsly illegal in CA, but may be permissable for you in your state. Check your local laws before purchasing and carrying. Stay safe guys |

also, check out ASP's website for stunguns. They are very affordable. They even have some that look like cellphones. This would be a very handy item if someone just rushes you and takes you to the ground all of a sudden.

CANNOT CARRY GUNS IN CA. GAWD

Re: getting robbed at Los angeles Casinos
curious how safe one's money is INSIDE places like this.
Thinking in terms of pickpockets, getting robbed or roughed-up in the mens' room, and having chips disappear from your stack while you're looking away or away from the table. It sounds like the southern-Cal rooms are way more degenerate-central than most rooms I am used to. And I don't how much faith I would have in security and cameras to successfully catch every sneaky pick-pocket or chip-stack stalker. I've never been to the California rooms. Would such concerns be considered over-the-top ridiculous? |

Re: getting robbed at Los angeles Casinos
Some other posters and I were discussing how upset we were that Commerce was being invaded my so many 2+2ers. This is a great thread in that it will hopefully deter you guys from infecting our nice little fish pond. Yes! Stay away! You'll be mugged!

Re: getting robbed at Los angeles Casinos
Commerce has a shuttle bus that runs the parking lots 24/7. Just take that bus and you are never alone and are delivered to your car, dropped off there and are never alone at any point in between. That should solve ANY between the door and your car if you don't want to wait for the valet.
|
Re: getting robbed at Los angeles Casinos
on more than one occasion when I've had a big night at a sketchy LA casino I have requested security to walk or drive me to my car if I didn't valet and I'm parked not close to the entrance.
I tip them $5-$10 and its well worth the safety. |
