3 Reasons to Love Commerce

Since I moved out to the LA area from the east coast to become a working stiff again I've got to Commerce on several occasions. My reasons...

1. Free food. It's not gourmet, but it's fine.

2. Lots of cute asian girls to look at.

3. You play a game with some rectangular pieces of plastic with strange markings on them. The object of this game appears to be to see how fast the other 8 people at the table can give round pieces of plastic to you. You can take the round pieces to someone else and they give you money.

Rectangular pieces of round plastic eh?

Sounds interesting.

Rectangulars are cards, rounds are chips.

How do you get free food at Commerce? I have gotten free meals at the Bike after playing for three hours, but didn't know Commerce had anything like that.

hahaha AIYA!! AIYA! where did that come from?

Re: 3 Reasons to Love Commerce

1) only in the 2/4 room upstairs. And your jackpot is 1/5 the size as a result. Free food my A**!
2) ONE cute asian cocktail waitress and a couple of maybe Lantinas if you like 'em a little large.
3) TT is right. It's the only place where a white guy like me can say "Aiya." and still fit in.

My top three...

1. Poker is a priority here not an afterthought.
2. It's consistent. You can find action at all levels at all times.
3. You can't out-grow it. You could make this your base for your entire poker career.

Food's better at the Bike and Ocean's. Nightly tournaments are better at the Hustler. There are more Asian girls at Hawaiian Gardens. Parking lot's bigger at Hollywood Park (about the only good thing, imo). But for consistent action that you'll won't outgrow--Commerce.

Re: 3 Reasons to Love Commerce

1. Barry plays 20-40 (and up?), where all food is comped.

2. The Commerce jackpots are smaller because they're easier to hit (aces full of anything, rather than aces full of tens/jacks), although there is no jackpot for the 20+ games.

3. The higher you play, the more you need to learn Armenian expletives.

Play better so you can play in the top section. In fact you don't even have to play that good to beat the 20/40 and 40/80 games...

I got three (hot hot hot) Korean girls in my office who beg to differ. It's probably a Chinese phrase that has crossed over or something like that, but its part of Korean culture too.

Re: 3 Reasons to Love Commerce

The one part of this post that tells me poker players have REALLY low standards is the favorable commentary about female content at Commerce. The good news is the the 6-maybe 8 range out of 10. And then there is the rest of the field. Or is it just plain sexy to hear the phrase "Le-Laise" from any dragon lady?

Seriously, go take in a lunch at the Ivy in Beverly Hills and gawk at some real LA eye candy to get your standards recalibrated.

To paraphrase a common NVG sentiment, statements like this are utterly useless without pics.

Re: 3 Reasons to Love Commerce

I can agree with a lot of this thread, but I can't really say there's a whole lot of cute asians(or any women in particular) there. I see more good looking girls at Morongo on the weekends, if we talk strictly casinos. If you compare any of these L.A. casinos with just about any casino in Vegas then it's really no contest. Maybe you're all judging these girls based on the fact that, sitting at the poker table, you haven't seen really hot chicks for a few hours.

I have only been to the Commerce once, but agree that it was a very nice casino. Soft games, great service, good food. It's why I am yearning to go down again!

On a little bit of a separate note, does anyone know if the Commerce accepts bank wires? I've tried emailing them a couple of times and have had no response.

Thanks

Lawrence

nah man, its not about low standards. its about the serious USDA prime cuts that are abundant in commerce and HG. there are some serious hot azn milfs, no joke. next time u at HG or commerce, go to the table games section and check out the scenery. but most of these hottie degens are with their gangsta viet boyfriends/husbands, so be careful.

o yea, i love yelling out "LEE RAY" everytime i re-raise. gets the action going.

Dollars to donuts that a white guy can fit in saying this at River Rock in Vancouver, BC. I never played live back when I lived there, so I can't speak from personal experience... just call it a hunch

This Bike is free just for playing anything $100 NL and up (the upper level). Pretty sweet deal to keep ordering all the food you want with it costing you nothing but a tip (not counting rake).
