Seriously?

Any night of the week (sun-thurs) you have a whole 2 games to choose from. On weekends they might fill 8/10 of their tables but still have a waiting list out the ass. The buyin for 1/2nl is $40-$100.. Untill the Lumiere opens downtown has nothing. Your better of driving the extra 25 minutes untill then.

On another note, the Casino Queen is going to open the add-ons to their casino. I didn't see anything about poker but I think we need to call them up and request it or something. I could see those games being great with the clubs near by. Besides not having a poker room in your casino is stupid for a few years now imo.

I've tried the President twice. I hate it.

I don't like the buy-in or the way the game plays. The atmosphere sucks and I hate their tables.

The President was great when it first opened in the early 90s. The poker room has been all over the place but at the time it was in the front on the main level with great views of the river. The floor was great, the dealers were great, and the games were great.

Even a beginner 1-4 stud player had a chance!

Not to mention no loss limit on the Illinois side.

Perhaps the Casino Queen is simply satisfied with having the "loosest slots in the country".

Re: ST louis MO area poker.

The President is a dump, plain and simple. The Queen does have very loose slots, and consistently has the highest payback. Plus the lack of a loss limit is a huge draw. And at least as of a couple years ago, they also didn't hit soft 17 at blackjack (very few casinos still stay on soft 17, an advantage to the player). I'm not surprised that the games at the President might be soft, but it's not a big enough draw to get me to visit.

The sisters next door to me make that same claim.

Nice

The loss limit is another great point. They would be the only place for hundreds of miles that could run any stakes they want. I'm going to call or write a letter recomending it. Others should call to, if the demand is there we might get a few tables.

Any news on the new casino downtown? Do we have a opening date or even month to look foward to?

I have played at Ameristar and Harrah's and probably prefer Harrah's slightly because the Blue Crab nachos at Moby Dick's are the bomb and if you get a table on the right hand side of the poker room, you can watch the showgirls from Ibar run back and forth to the dressing room. We usually stay in St Louis so Harrah's is closer but otherwhise they are pretty much interchangeable IMHO.

i'm from kc but went out to stl 3 months ago and several times before that... the harrahs room was pretty nice, i liked it better than the ameristar room. ya i wouldnt watch the actual show cause its kinda cheezy (watched once and no more!) but having the showgirls walking through the room had to be by design i think... there's always plenty of 1/2 and 2/5 nl tables and on the weekends they sometiems can get 5/10 nl going too.

I haven't been there for about a year, but to me, the biggest difference between the two is that Harrah's is more a no-limit room while Ameristar offers more for limit players.

I've been to the President a half dozen times in the last 10 years -- and I always post something negative about it afterward.

Last week was my LAST visit there. Hope they just sink the boat after the new Lumiere casino opens.

8 tables - in a better location than a couple years ago.
Dirty chips tables and chairs as usual.
1-2 NL game had buy in of 40 - 100.
Asked the brush what games were open and they had a seat open for me -- now go BACK UPSTAIRS to buy your chips from the main cage. Cash them out upstairs too.
Took a friend who had never been to this casino before. He had to get a Players Card before entering the casino --- and they CHARGED him $2 for it.

Re: ST louis MO area poker.

All the high limit play is at Harrah's.
2/5 runs every night
The schedule for high limit games is:

Friday: 20/40 limit
Saturday: PLO that plays very big
Sunday: 20/40
Monday: PLO
Wednesday: 30/60

The limit games are played with a half kill, over buttons and a rock. PLO is 5-5 blinds but regularly has players sitting with 5k+. Straddles are the norm, blind raises to $50 arent rare. Occasionally, though not much lately, the PLO is played as a mixed game between PLO and 5/10 NL.

5/10 NL isnt regular and runs only when the demand is there, will run solid for a week or two then not go for the same.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch Article About the Admiral

At the end, it talks about Lumiere's plans for the Admiral/President's casino. They may keep it the President's Casino around, especially if loss limits stick around.
