Busto, now what? (serious question)
So I've been playing for about 2 years while in College
and have been able to pay everything with my winnings (Tuiton, books, food, rent, insurance, car, etc) while still maintaining a playing bankroll and putting some aside for savings. Mostly from $2/4 $2/5 $3/6 NLH, and occassional $2/4 PLO or occassional donkament when I need to switch it up. I've been through one period of an about 6 month long losing streak (you know the deal where you get the money in as a 70% favorite or more and lose not once, but every single time) and not gone bust before... But recently experienced a more severe losing streak in a shorter amount of time (around 6-8 weeks) and dropped about 80 buyins, which causes me to be now completely BUSTO. Luckily it is summer so don't have to start paying for school expenses for about another 4-5 weeks, and even applied to a few jobs but can't seem to land anything as the last time I worked was way back in 2004/2005. So I'm Busto, now what? Any serious suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated, thanks 2p2... Oh and btw, don't really have any super high roller friends that would even be interested in throwing me a stake (waste of their time to throw less than a buyin in their eyes), so that's most likely out of the question. |

Also, in all honesty I'm not even depressed as I know this comes with the territory and over past couple years have learned to accept the swings and uncertainty of NLH/Poker in general. |

Re: Busto, now what? (serious question)
I don't get it. Poker has paid for your entire life while in college. At one point during your 80 buy-in "downswing" do you take some time off and go, "Hmmm maybe I should look at pokertracker and find the monstrous leaks in game"?

Re: Busto, now what? (serious question)
I think the most painful realization
that I was running bad was yesterday, was trying to do something some spare change I had at a LIVE $1/2 NL table ($20-60 buyin lol) and this young rich prick and his friend were bitchin so much at the floormen that they got them to open up a $75/150 table (at this casino normally the highest is a $5/10 NLH or $4/8 LH)... not being able to sit in that game, knowing he'd willingly donk off 50k with no problems and not think anything of it was a lot worse than the 80 buy in downswing . |
Re: Busto, now what? (serious question)
it's simple play lower limits to build your BR up again or get a job to play higher and don't [censored] up.
not that either of them is much fun... |

[/ QUOTE ] I never got around to getting pokertracker as I'd say 80-85% of my play is LIVE recently after all the legislation, but I have HHs and they basically just say that either online poker is rigged or I'm playing employees of the sites lol. Live I ran at $33.24/hr over ~1600hrs play recorded mostly $1/3 and $2/4 $2/5 NLH. I think I would have come to a realization I have some serious leaks a while ago, but is losing with top set to a rivered gutshot , not hitting a live str8 flush draw against one pair, losing top set to bottom set rivered quads, or losing AA to many random 37 49 KQ A10 off all in pre is that a leak? Also to note I took a 4 week break off after first 30-35 buyins I dropped in beginning of downswing and felt more refreshed than ever before, but still continued to run unbelievably red. |
Re: Busto, now what? (serious question)
Oh wait, was it 80 30bb buy-ins ($60 at 1/2), not 100bb buy-ins?

Is it that hard for you to move down? [/ QUOTE ] I was playing $3/6 at the peak then moved down to $2/4 and later $1/2 and $1/3, moving down each time when I had around 30 buyins for each level... still got jewed everytime I moved down. And I'd say it's going to be hard to get something going when I'm offically BUSTO. |

Re: Busto, now what? (serious question)
profbets tried to rip me off with a transfer before. Word of caution to any potential "staker" (aka sucker).

[/ QUOTE ] If it is going to be some BS p/t job just make up a job for the gap. Say you worked with your friend (or just insert name of friend and don't say it was your friend) doing roofing or landscaping or whatever. Give friend's #. There, your gap is covered. It's not like lying to a serious job where it could come back and bite you in the ass after working there for 5 years. All you need is a reference. If you don't use Professional Roofing Inc and instead use Joe Blow as the name of the employer there is no problem giving your friends home number as a business reference. If there is any question (which is highly doubtful there would be) you say that Joe Blow does 'side jobs' and this is the reason he's not in the yellow pages or whatever. Some random crap part time job is not even gonna go there though. |

I remember this guy from BBV awhile ago. To truly appreciate how terrible he is at poker you need to read these threads about his grudge vs sponger.

Re: Busto, now what? (serious question)
I might be interested in giving you a stake. I am currently staking 10 players (nearly 30 lifetime) and have had very good success in coaching & staking. Email a general poker resume with any information you think is applicable. We'll take it from there.
