Lienart, Bush are both better than V Young
If USC had some defensive people who could tackle it would have been a different story. M. Vick is a better athlete than V Young and the pros can stop him from running.
Basically, the NFL will expose his weakness - he is not a great thrower of the football. Reggie Bush was the most talented player on the field. Lienart will be the new Tom Brady. Vince Young will be the new Aaron Brooks. |

Lienart would have to be drafted past the 4th round to be the new Tom Brady.

Yeah but Brady wasn't quite as heralded coming into the league as Lienart, don't ya think?

Say what you want about Vince Young. I've been watching the guy play since he was in high school and the one thing I have always seen is......the guy is a WINNER.

Not very outlandish, I'm sure plenty of smart people feel that way.

A QB who generally only relies on physical ability has little upside and will only go so far as his supporting cast takes him. The NFL is too fast of a league to rely on a QB who has to scramble on every other 3rd and 5. |

the NFL will expose his weakness - he is not a great thrower of the football. [/ QUOTE ] I used to make fun of Vince Young because of his throwing motion, but I was proven wrong. You do know that VY completes 66% of his passes and has a 26/10 TD to INT ratio, right. |
Re: Lienart, Bush are both better than V Young
He played amazing.
My biggest question in regards to his NFL chances: As a runner, he is fast, but in college, and definetly in this game, a lot of his highlights have him breaking a ton of arm tackles. Now obviously he puts himself in position to get guys off balance and break these tackles, but in the NFL is he going to be able to do this when obviously the athletes are better? I'm not trying to take anything away from VY, as admittedly I am a bitter SC fan, but I do think this is an honest concern. However, I thought USC would have the athleitc LBs to shadow and make these tackles. This was obviously not the case. VY makes it look very effortless. I'm drunk and frustrated. QWho knows. |

[/ QUOTE ] The problem with using "spies" is that the spy is usually inferior athletically to the guy you're trying to cover, so in the long run you're better off just running your best base scheme against the opposition. That's exactly what Texas defensive coordinator Gene Chizik did against Reggie Bush. He just ran his base defense, with the best possible personnel. |

If USC had some defensive people who could tackle it would have been a different story. [/ QUOTE ] That's the same EXACT thing I thought last year about the Michigan game. We had more talent, we just missed a buncha tackles. After watching a few Texas games this year, I'm just not very sure anymore. The guy is sick. What a clutch, clutch player. |
Re: Lienart, Bush are both better than V Young
im not arguing for or against specific offensive schemes, i simply don't believe that VY will be able to get in the position to break as many arm tackles against NFL defenses. in college people get their hands and arms on him, they just can't bring him down.
im wary to say he can't do it though, his speed and elusiveness are quite deceptive. |
Re: Lienart, Bush are both better than V Young
Excellent points. As a UT fan, obviously I am biased and happy with the victory.
What I don't understand from the whiners and WHEINART, is the statement, "We missed to many tackles" or "If we had guys who could tackle". Maybe the guy not getting tackled, Vince or Lindale, were better than the tacklers. Being strong, fast and elusive generally make people miss tackles, just as Pfunk has stated. UT fans shouldn't complain about missing tackles against White or Bush, and you shouldn't complain about "missing" tackles against Vince. Le roi est mort! Viva le roi!! Viva Vince!!! Viva Bevo!!! Viva Texas!!! |

[/ QUOTE ] I was disappointed with Leinart's post-game comments, but I think part of it can be attributed to being dazed from a couple of vicious hits plus the natural frustration after losing for the first time in 34 games. I suspect he will give Texas their just due when he is interviewed again. Reggie Bush was very classy and complementary of Texas after the game, as was Pete Carroll. |

If your season potentially rides on one first down, and you have a Heisman Trophy winning running back on your team ... well, you might want to have him on the field. Has there ever been a Super Bowl champion QB that didnt have a good supporting cast? I cant think of any offhand, but there are a lot of a people in the forum who have a better knowledge of sports history that might be able to make a case that a team won a Super Bowl with a great QB and a mediocre team surrounding him. |

[/ QUOTE ] in the modern NFL, it's more likely a great team (great defense, running game, not prone to mistakes, etc) carries a mediocre QB to a title. there really aren't a lot of 'great' QB's in the league. Think of the best QB's of the last 20 years or so: John Elway didn't get his titles until his team had a great running game. Marino was an exceptional talent who obviously never won a SB. Montana was great, but had great WR's, RB's, and usually a very good defense and coaching staff when he won. Tom Brady has a great defense, one of the best coaches/gameplanners ever, and (more recently) good talent at WR, RB, and OL. Peyton Manning is worse this year than either of his previous 2 years, but his team finally is the favorite b/c of the defense and overall balance. |
