The Rasterbator (NSFW)
OK I don't know how many of you know of this program, but here is a link to the gallery, with an image of what this program can possibly do. i have a huge wall over my bed that needs to be filled.
Submit cool images that would look interesting if rasterbated. I was thinking of going with the american psycho/clockwork orange theme i've got going for my room and going with: http://www.robokopp.de/images/clockw..._orange_04.jpg this quality is horrible though. i don't have DVD image capturing software... Re: The Rasterbator
Add this into the mix, but black and white it(I dunno if it does that automatically)

Re: The Rasterbator
so i rasterbated this image:
http://img370.imageshack.us/img370/5210/02hi9ns.jpg and it took me 3 hours to put it on my wall above my bed (door is in the way of the rest of it, left it there to give an idea how big it is about 7ft by 4ft): http://img429.imageshack.us/img429/5779/pict00017qa.jpg what do you think? i really like the way it turned out!! |

Re: The Rasterbator
I'm not the most technically savvy so what hardware and software do you need for this? Obviously I know you need a computer and printer but any specific printer or a $80 HP Inkjet do the job?
|
Re: The Rasterbator
This thread would have gotten a lot more responses if the title wasnt rasterbator
|
Re: The Rasterbator
How is it possible that this could exist and more people don't know about it? What a great tool. Now I need to decide what would look cool in black and white.
|
Re: The Rasterbator
This thing looks really really neat...
I'm with mroels here. My printer is a POS Canon bubblejet or some crap... if the plan is to make something like this look really good, is it worth going to like, Kinko's and printing it on a good printer? My gut says yes. Who's got experience and advice to offer? |

3 words: training day poster
http://cinecover.free.fr/divx/training_day_front.jpg damn quick reply and the no image feature... |
Re: The Rasterbator
how far away do you have to be to see the image? I'm printing a 1.5x1 meter one and the dots look huge on the paper coming out of the printer.
|
Re: The Rasterbator
that was my thought at first, but once its all assembled, its quite clear from a foot away.
its worth it to cut away the excess white around the edges, as they suggest; i just hope you have either a steady hand and a lot of patience, or a paper cutter. |
Re: The Rasterbator
I'm planning to gamble it up and cut a row at a time with scissors... I should check the house for a paper cutter first though
|
Re: The Rasterbator
i'm trying to figure out how best to go about hanging these things on the wall. ive had it laid out on my bed for a couple hours now, and nothing's coming to me. just take scotch tape and roll it up into the little scotch tape circle, and use that on the back of the pages? go out and buy some of that sticky stuff that we used in grade school?
this is my biggest concern at the moment. |
Re: The Rasterbator
I have used poster sticky before for a big collection of images (current collage that's up there) and in the end it looks uneven and peels easy. I think tape's going to be a huge pain in the ass, but after using so much ink and waiting so long so I can make sure the paper is not curved from the big use of ink, I'll just dedicate a while to doing it.
If you come up with another method let me know. The lay-it-out-on-the-bed idea is good because I am pretty unsure of what order it's printed in - i'm assuming first page is top left and it goes right from there but I really have no clue. |
Re: The Rasterbator
I found a bunch of cool pictures we could use at www.sachawaldman.com
The only problem is that the site uses flash. Is there anyway to save the pics to your computer? SOME OF THESE PICS ARE AWESOME! |
Re: The Rasterbator
about the whole ink thing... laser printers don't saturate paper the same way inkjets do, correct? i havent used a laser printer in years, but i'm considering going to kinkos eventually and using a good printer to do the final piece the huge wall in my bedroom, whatever that may be. will the issue with curving paper be less with a laser printer?
im also thinking about using double sided tape, or those little white sticky things that are double sided... about the circumference size of a thumbtack. yeah, the first one that comes out is the top left, and then it goes across the top row. like a typewriter. villain, just printscrn, paste it into paint and crop accordingly. that'd be my advice. yasher |
Re: The Rasterbator
This thing is very cool, but seriously, horrible, horrible thread title.
|
Re: The Rasterbator
I still wanna know what software you guys are using to cut up these pictures?
|
Re: The Rasterbator
the piece of software is called the rasterbator.
downloadable version did you think OP just had a weird fetish when he titled this post? |

BCPVP,
She's nice, but I don't think she'd look too hot in black and white... and my color cartridge doesnt have enough for her bikini top, let alone her bottom. To say nothing of all the orange it'd take. Tanning rules. yasher |
Re: The Rasterbator
Absolute crime what Lindsay did to herself.
|
Re: The Rasterbator
Warning: I sucked at this.
Dorm rooms are not good for this, also never use your own hands to cut anything, cause its kinda uneven. I will redo this with a better tool to cut, and better taping. http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/4...10622488em.jpg Also, my printer ran out of ink, so im going to redo the top three images. |

Re: The Rasterbator
For all the money you spend on printer ink you could get 3-4 actual posters.

Re: The Rasterbator
Two words....print quota.
It's 6 cents a page at my college to print. |

Two words....print quota. It's 6 cents a page at my college to print. [/ QUOTE ] OK if you're going to do this right you need to setup the options correctly: if you download the standalone rasterbator (suggested) you have 2 options: 1) you can choose NOT to have the white border around the edges (i forget what the option is called) 2) if you want BETTER quality go with SMALLER dots (i went with 5mm dots instead of the default 10) and LASTLY don't waste your printer ink, most home printers blow goatse. simply goto kinkos and spend 5$ (that's how much it cost for me) ALSO the rasterbator can make a color image b&w, just remember that "garbage in, garbage out" so find a high quality pic. my donnie darko pic i searched 10 min online and found a 93k size version of the pic. also, i think i spaced out my sheets too far, i don't have a ruler so i used my knuckle. i'd go with 1/2". good luck |
