What\'s up with Gabe and his co-host always badmouthing each other?
Is that whole thing an act?
I started watching HSP again, and i have no clue how old these episodes are (one of them Brad booth bought in with a cool million, if that helps). But in these episodes, at the beginning, Gabe will make comments about the other dude calling his agent and whining about him or something like that. And then in all the shows afterwards there seems to be some hostility between the 2 announcers so does anyone know what the deal is? |

Gabe Kaplan is killing me. "Kotter" sucked and he was an average stand-up, but HSP is hilarious.
One of the funniest moments ever in television has to be when Kaplan did the final interview with main event winner Stu Ungar and asked him about the $500 bucks he had lent him. I'm cracking up now. |

i personally find their banter to be very funny, although to me it obviously comes off as a joke.
Pretty impressive actually because there seem to be a large number of ppl on these forums that take them seriously. This is about the third post on this subject ive read here. |
Re: What\'s up with Gabe and his co-host always badmouthing each other?
In the line of Andy Kaufman, Sarah Silverman, "Larry Sanders", Larry David, etc. Sometimes the best routines are "dead-pan". I want to play no-limit with anyone who takes Kaplan seriously. |

They're actors, they're acting

the only thing funny is how bad it is.

Gabe is a comedian. One who prefers sarcasm and even insult comedy. It's very likely he wanted this dynamic for the show. To AJ Benza's credit, he's managed to roll with it and now seems fairly natural in his banter. This from a guy who punched a co-worker for making fun him while working for Howard Stern.

Re: What\'s up with Gabe and his co-host always badmouthing each other?
I thought it was an act at first, but it's gone on and on and some of the remarks seem pretty hostile. I can't imagine publicizing Benza's altercation with Studdering John would help his professional career very much, but what do I know.
I always thought they were pretty good together. Maybe they're just going out of their way to kick up the ratings a bit. |
Re: What\'s up with Gabe and his co-host always badmouthing each other?
In his winners speech on PAD, Gabe said Nejad played his under-set terribly but he was a young kid and he'd learn. Priceless. It does seem there's a higher than average amount of Americans that struggle with dry humour... .Z |
Re: What\'s up with Gabe and his co-host always badmouthing each other?
Gabe has a new book out in which he punks people by email. It's all very dark and extremly funny. I don't think enough people will get it however. His sense of humor is definitly not mainstream.
I can't wait for HSP to start showing new episodes. I used to like him with a few reservations but now I'm firmly in his corner. I wonder if he and Benza are going to keep up the bullsh*t on the new episodes. |
Re: What\'s up with Gabe and his co-host always badmouthing each other?
Kotter was to Kaplan what Taxi was to Kaufman: utter waste of talent in a lame sitcom.

The saddest thing about it is that Ungar keeps speaking about himself in the past tense, saying things like, "I made a lot of mistakes, but nobody was ever a better card player than I was." It's almost like he's writing his own eulogy. |

He said he was going to try to straighten up his life for his kid, but he never learned... selfish bastard imo.

One of my favorite "poker" personalities. He's very quick too. I think when he got knocked out on the last PDA thing he did, he had some good lines with Shana. <3 Gabe. |

The past couple generations were raised on insult or physical humor -- jokes that go for the jugular to satisfy a quota of x number of jokes per half hour sitcom. |
