Letter about possible I.D. theft???
Did anyone else get a letter from Certegy saying that an online merchant sold mine and a lot of others bank account information to some sort of broker and now all my information is just floating around out there somewhere. I'm thinking this may be from epassporte but it's really got me worried. Did anyone else get this letter too? If not then it prob isnt from epass.

Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
Was this an email or a snail mail? If email is it a phishing attempt? I get that shiat all the time.
Certegy is a dirrty company anyway I wish my place of business didn't work with them. -Brendan |
Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
it was a letter in my mail box. Not an email. It must be from epassporte. God this sucks so bad
|
Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
what does ePassporte have to do with this? Seems strange to jump to such a conclusion with absolutely no connection to ePassporte?
|
Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
because it says Certegy "provides certain credit card-related services to the gaming industry" Since epass is the only place other than paypal that my bank info is on that pretty much narrows it to epass. Then I put two and two together since there are others on here that got the letter that it must be from epass. Does that sound like enough reason to suspect it had something to do with epassporte. What really chaps my ass is wtf does some regular employee of Certegy doing with my bank info? Shouldn't that be more closely guarded?

Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
i dont understand why epassporte would sell client information while they still are in business, etc.
then again i dont understand why neteller has my money |
Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
Interesting, I did not get the letter. However, I just found out today somebody put 2k in fraudulent charges on my credit card in the last week. FTR, I have never used epassporte.

Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
people here love to post about how the 'sky is falling' whenever they have a chance..i have spoken to a high up at ePass and was told this thread is ridiculous and just plain wrong. Before posting such alarmist things, do your research.

Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
logic hard for you to understand? ePassporte is not going to sell peoples information, it simply makes no logical sense, if they did they would be in for a huge lawsuit, and beyond that, there is simply no rational reason this would happen from a functioning company...you can always say what you say and choose to believe it if it is a subject that can't be conclusively proved ever...

Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
Some online poker room or ewallet must of sold some information, because my card number was stolen and used in Mexico. I haven't used the card in months and it has been locked in my safe the whole time.

Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
lol
|
Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
guys it wasn't epass that sold the information, they have to run it through Certegy to verify that you have the funds to play with. It was an employee of Certegy that actually sold our information. So our information was obtained from epass Jeff. But they didn't do anything illegal and i never said they did, i said that they had something to do with it which is true. so calm down

Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
guys i never used e pass and got the letter
|
Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
Dude for the last time, it doesnt have to be from epass. MINE came from epass. Yours could have come from neteller or anything else where your information went through Certegy. They do all kinds of stuff and one of CERTEGY'S employees is the one who sold it.

Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
Just curious, but do they do any business with FullTilt?
Seems strange that its happening at the same time as this one. FT email fishing scam- only affects high stakes players! |
Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
so you are saying millions of people just had their identity compromised with bank details, etc and yet no one is talking about it? Show some sort of proof this happened and that you didn't just get some chain mail sky is falling crap.

Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
jeff you are a moron. Not sure it was millions, but call your bank and 100 bucks says they have had thousands of their customers have the same thing happen. Ask them about the Certegy incident. I bank with Arvest and they said that 6000 of their customers have had to change their bank accounts. lol, do you really think i would make this up?

Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
The press release:
http://www.certegy.com/FISPressRelease7-3.pdf |
Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
that press release seems to indicate that people are not at risk of anything serious beyond getting ad solicitations. Any reason to believe actually serious consequences could arise?
|
Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
Who is the letter from btw?
|
Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
if this is true it would be a HUGE topic here on 2+2...i mean if it was a real concern anyway...?
|
Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
Thought it was worth bumping this one.
To clarify an earlier point. The information was NOT sold by Certegy (apparently) OR any other Pokersite etc. It was STOLEN from Certegy by an employee who then sold it on to diect marketing companies. I play at a few different sites, so emailed them all the same question, received a reply from Stars first (which I will be happy to post if anyone wants to see it for some reason) basically stating that this processor is not and never has been associated with them in any way. Not even sure if it is a real concern as Certegy say they are not aware of the information being used for fraudulent purposes, but do I really want to trust what they say? They did let some bastard walk off with my card details. |
Re: Letter about possible I.D. theft???
I got this letter earlier this week. It doesn't specify who was responsible for the information leak, other than a company that has to deal with "internet gaming."
I had the same thing happen with one of my employers, and nothing ever happened because of it, so I'm not too worried. But yes, this is real and they did send these out. |
