Two consecutive hands in the end of a tourney - opinions please

Greetings,

last night in one tourney I played till 15/777,
and then got kicked out just before final table.
That sucked and I would like to have a some opinions
about, is my analysis of "what-went-wrong" right.

I played two consecutive hands badly, and would like
to discuss, could that be avoided.

Here are the hands and below each hand is my analysis:

Hand 1:
$50+$5 Hold'em No Limit
Level XVII (4000/8000+ante 400)
Seat #6 is the button
Seat 1: UTG (28764 in chips)
Seat 2: 2.pos (379609 in chips)
Seat 3: 3.pos (118072 in chips)
Seat 4: 4.pos (98343 in chips)
Seat 5: 5.pos (136080 in chips)
Seat 6: (B) (110896 in chips)
Seat 7: (SB) (346304 in chips)
Seat 8: Pug (BB) (83994 in chips)

Action:
Dealt to Pug (BB) [7h 7s]
UTG: raises 20364 to 28364 and is all-in
2.pos: calls 28364
3.pos: folds
4.pos: folds
5.pos: folds
(B): folds
(SB): folds
Pug (BB): folds
*** FLOP *** [As 7d 3h]
*** TURN *** [As 7d 3h] [4h]
*** RIVER *** [As 7d 3h 4h] [Jd]
*** SHOW DOWN ***
UTG: shows [Kc 3c] (a pair of Threes)
2.pos: shows [5c 5s] (a pair of Fives)
2.pos collected 71928 from pot

I have 77 in a 8-handed table. I should have called
that raise with 20 364, because I already had put in
a BB and I only had to call with one-fourth of my stack.
I just were worried about the first caller, I was
not worried about the raiser, I reckoned he might have had
anything from UTG at that point. I believe it was the first
caller who's call made me fold my pair of sevens. And as
usual, the caller had even smaller pair and one more seven
came from the flop...well that was mistake no 1.

And right after that came the next hand...

Hand 2:
$50+$5 Hold'em No Limit
Level XVII (4000/8000+ante 400)
Seat #7 is the button
Seat 2: (BB) (422773 in chips)
Seat 3: UTG (117672 in chips)
Seat 4: 2.pos (97943 in chips)
Seat 5: 3.pos (135680 in chips)
Seat 6: 4.pos (110496 in chips)
Seat 7: (B) (341904 in chips)
Seat 8: Pug (SB) (75594 in chips)

Action:
*** HOLE CARDS ***
Dealt to Pug (SB) [As Ah]
UTG: folds
2.pos: folds
3.pos: folds
4.pos: folds
(B): raises 16000 to 24000
Pug (SB): raises 24000 to 48000
(BB): folds
(B): calls 24000
*** FLOP *** [Ac 8s Ks]
Pug (SB): checks
(B): checks
*** TURN *** [Ac 8s Ks] [3c]
Pug (SB): bets 27194 and is all-in
(B): calls 27194
*** RIVER *** [Ac 8s Ks 3c] [Tc]
*** SHOW DOWN ***
Pug (SB): shows [As Ah] (three of a kind, Aces)
(B): shows [9c 5c] (a flush, Ace high)
(B) collected 161188 from pot
xxx [observer] said, "lolol"
(Pug: I deserved that comment...)

And of course, out with bullets I went. I should
have immediately pushed in, when in turn. But I got greedy
and wanted the full value from my AA. I could have made
the 9c 5c to fold before flop. And at least shove the rest
on flop, when one more A came. I gave the infinite odds for
big stack to draw. And he surely did it. Altough my stack
I have left was only 27 194, so he would have called on the
flop anyways, I think.

The main lesson I learned from here (once again) that in the
end of a tourney You just have to play your strong hands fast,
and NOT slowplay them.

Any more advice? Is my reasoning on the track at all?
Is there some points what I did not take into concern?

On my opinion, I could avoided this simply by calling with
77 on the first hand, and after getting trips, no worries
with that hand.

And then, on the second, just raised immideately all-in,
when fased the raise from big stack.

Many thanks for any opinions and advice.

Sincerely,

Pug

First one is a bit of a tricky spot, not sure what I'd do there, I think a fold is fine. In the second one just shove over his raise. By the way don't post results!

both look fine...don't beat yourself up on either...on the first some reads may help but I'm usually calling the original all in but not after the call...on the second you trapped him well and he sucked out...that statement means you played it perfect for max value...all you can do and though it's tough don't get gun shy!!!!

#1: Fold is correct imho. Why battle with a real big stack who can step on you like a bug? Remember that he made a big mistake by not reraising to isolate the original raiser. This for itself had already made me very nervous here ... and last but not least - the only play you could have made here were a push. Calling is out of range, as youīre pot-committed anyway and risk to be outdrawn by overcards. Imagine, the hand (by some miracle) had not been played out and you had not seen the 7 on the flop. Would you have judged it to be a mistake afterwards? I donīt think so ... so donīt get sick by the result!

#2: Again - donīt get sick by the result. Slowplaying Aces HU is no real mistake - at least when you need chips anyway. Surely there are thousand ways to play your aces differently here, and I certainly had directly shoved the flop - but what had happened? You had 80% winning chance preflop, you had more than 90% on the flop ... so what should be? You did not want to drive out Villain but hoped that he hit something to call you on the turn. So donīt blame your decision afterwards. And again - remember, that Villain made a mistake again (taking the results into account) - as he did not get the odds to call you (he needed 5.6:1 as he had only 7 outs [K and 8 of clubs gave you a FH] but got only 4.9:1). This is a cold comfort regarding that you busted with this bad beat but it shows that your play wasnīt really terrible at all.

2nd hand, I think the mistake was pre-flop, by betting 48k and only leaving 28k behind you are screaming "IVE GOT A MONSTER!" - so I've very suprised you got a call.

Secondly, playing with 28k in a 100k odd pot, you don't really have anything to work with. i.e. you couldn't push him off his draw, so his call on the turn was correct. You need to think about where you'll be later in teh hand and try to avoid awkward situations.

As played i think the check on the flop was OK, as he may have bet out there. If he was first to act though I probably wouldn't check behind.

You can shove hand 1. UTG has a huge range you should be ahead of and you've got good FE near the bubble against tagalong. He's got a good sized stack and is feeling pretty good about making the FT, but isn't going to want to chunk a ton of it into the pot against two players showing strength. (At this stage of a tournament, if he had a premium hand, he'd almost always be raising.)

Hand 2: just shove preflop.

Thanks Camdaman.

Any ideas about the different though prosesses about these kinda situations?

I changed the names, and now know in the future I'll leave the results away.

Yours,
Pug

#1:
Reraising I never though myself, only between call/fold.
Looks like I also neglected noticing the 2.pos -player stack size, as I did not even mention it here.

Cause U said calling is out of range here, so I would like to ask, which amount of chips in % of your stack would You call in this late part of a tourney, if You'd make some call. Here it would have been, should I called, about 25% of my stack.

"donīt get sick by the result"
THANKS for saying that to me. I forgot: One should only make a best possible decision in the current situation.

#2: And again - thanks. I am now that much wiser again.
It always just seems that in the heat of a battle I only seem to notice my own mistakes, not others.

I thank thee.

Yours,
Pug

Re: Two consecutive hands in the end of a tourney - opinions please

I think both hands are shoves.
#1 - You only have 10 BB's and a good hand. The UTG AI can have ATC, so that's easy. The caller might have a big hand (trapping with AA or KK), but he might have anything because he is a big stack. Your chip position is bad, and there is a lot of dead money in the pot if you can get the caller to fold. I think you stack up well against both their ranges, and you need chips badly - shove. Unless you make it to 6th+ (really top 3), the money is not worth folding your way to a higher positions. Shove to isolate. I wish you hadn't posted the result.

#2 - shove PF or flat-call - anything else is weird and suspicious with your stack. And bet the flop - checking is just way too suspicious - he expects you to shove no matter what you have. Don't disappoint him.

Re: Two consecutive hands in the end of a tourney - opinions please

The thing that bothered me the most about hand #2 was the minraise PF. To me, when the play is HU, it absolutely screams AA (unless it comes from an absolutely terrible player, then it could just as likely be KJo). At least try to disguise it a little more, either by (like SonofDjugashvili said), flat calling or pushing. If you had chosen to flat call, and then see the A on the flop, by all means push! The most likely hand, from villains eyes would be a spade draw, and you're semibluff pushing, hoping for him to go away.

I also like the push on hand #1, calling is probably the worst thing you could do. If the table had been tight I wouldn't argue with a fold either, although the lack of a raise from the 2nd pos. seems to be pretty weak.

Re: Two consecutive hands in the end of a tourney - opinions please

Cheers and thanks for the comments.

#1: My first post here, so in the future I know not to post
the results. To be honest, shoving did not even cross in
my mind, so I might make a lead here that I just played
too cautiously. Have also to think that in future.

#2: Seems like the good think is to do the obvious
here. Well, today I witnessed the same situation, but
this time I was not luckily involved.

Yours,
Pug

Re: Two consecutive hands in the end of a tourney - opinions please

Methanks comments. Seems like more aggression. I usually
try to avoid calling, but here (hand 1) it seemed one
option. I've just busted out too many times with 77
(I know, it had nothing to do with that situation, but
still...)

That much wiser I continue.

Thank You

Yours,
Pug
