Brag: My buddy killed a guy who tried to rob his party
 

I thought about posting this Wednesday; but figured no one would believe me anyway so why not wait til there was an article about it to back it up. Article

I was invited to this party; but stayed home to play poker. From what I've heard two guys came in to the party and asked if they could bum a smoke and get a drink. Everyone was cool with them.

About an hour later they came back in; but this time one of them pulls out a gun and forces a guy to the floor. He tells everyone this is a robbery. My friend who owns the apartment immediately pulls out his pistol and puts it to the robbers forehead. He tells him "you better drop your piece."

My friend tells me the guy says, "you ain't gonna do [censored], bitch..." but the word bitch never got all the way out. Before he could finish the statement my friend splatters his brains all over the carpet and the guy who he had on the floor.

Robber two makes a run for it; but is chased down, severely beaten and turned into the police.

Brag: Robber attempts to punk my friend. Ends up w/o a head.

Beat: I stayed home to play poker.

Variance: Shampooing your carpet sucks ass.

He said the police took him to 201 Poplar (police HQ) and questioned him for a couple of hours. His story was corroborated by everyone there so it seems pretty open and shut. They told him he wouldn't be facing any charges.

I don't see what's cool about having to murder another human being. Not saying he was in the wrong really, but being put in that position sucks. Killing ain't nothin to brag about. There's a good chance I'd have shot him too if I had a gun handy, but I wouldn't be happy about it at all.

I bet he shot the guy without being seen and everyone at the party agreed to say he warned him.

I know if I saw an armed robber in my house and I had a shot at him, I wouldn't go up to him and give him a chance to react first. Then again, I'm nowhere near as badass as your friend...

From what I understand there wasn't a chance to sneak up on him or anything. The article was wrong in that it said he went to go get his gun. He keeps his gun on him.

He told me that the two guys were in the living room the guy pulled out his gun and forced one of the partygoers to the ground. That's when my buddy pulled out his pistol and put it to the guy's forehead.

Robber #2 was unarmed. I think the plan was for #2 to collect the wallets and [censored] while #1 kept the hostage pinned down. That's speculation; but either way it was poorly planned if the second guy wasn't armed.

He killed the guy in cold blood. If the robber made a move with his gun or something it's ok, but he just stood there and mouthed off your friend and your friend just shot him dead. That seems wrong to me and looks like 2nd degree murder.
I'm not sure about American laws but i'm sure you would be in trouble in Canada if you shot someone dead like that.

Self defense is pretty broad. If you feel like your life or your friend's life is endangered you can take another's life. Since the other guy was pointing a gun at the hostage and wouldn't drop it this should be more than enough. There is a certain amount to be said for the crime being committed in his home too. You can get away with self defense easier defending your home than if the same thing happened at someone else's home or on the street.

Because then he has the opportunity to shoot the hostage?

So everyone is clear here the hostage is on the ground with a gun pointed at his head. The robber has a knee in the back of said hostage and is looking at my friend who has a pistol pointed at his head.

If shooting this guy in the head isn't legal in Canada then you guys need to seriously reevaluate your self-defense laws.
