Flop quads, then get raised!

6-handed 200 NL. I have 200, opponent covers.

Opponent is a solid winning regular. He's fairly tight, though I've seen him raise c-bets with bare, non-nut flush draws.

I think he has exactly 44, or 10-10+. How to extract?

I'm UTG with 8 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

Hero raises for 8, CO calls, everyone else folds.

Flop 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (pot: 19)
Hero bets for 16, CO raises for 32

What's the plan?

If he made a bigger raise I'd fastplay it, but since it's some weak min-raise I'd call and see if he's dumb enough to continue making a move.

Doubt he has TT+. If he's ok then call and let him try to bluff you off an overpair. If he's great and you have a sick image then you could 3-bet to induce a shove.

There's no draws so I'd flat call ...

Tags will raise you with air here a lot, and normally this is a small pocket pair trying to get you to fold overs but will normally fold to 3 bet.

Id call here.

At the risk of preempting further input, here's a bit more of the hand...

Hero bets for 16, CO raises for 32, Hero calls.

Turn 2 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (Pot 83)
Hero checks, CO bets 27 , Hero calls

River 4 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (Pot 137)

Anyone play the turn different? Checkraise river, or just push?

If he has 44, you're not going to have any trouble getting all the money in, so don't worry about that. He's going to be just as itchy to build a pot as you are.

While possible, certainly, I doubt he has an overpair unless it's 99/TT/JJ. More likely is 55-77 or complete air trying to push you off overcards or a medium overpair.

I like flat calling here and checking the turn to let him keep going. If you're really, really confident in your read that he has exact 44/TT+, then I CRAI the turn.

Alternatively, if he's really aggro you can 3bet to like 75ish to get him to shove over the top to push you off of your "obvious overpair."

edit: jeez. cross-post-o-rama. what I get for writing more than a quick post, I guess.

his turn bet looks like that weak type of bet that is looking to get to showdown for cheap. i don't think he's betting the river too often, so i'd put out a smallish bet of around $50 on the river and hope to somewhat get paid off.

Raise turn to 70 ...

You have to bet river.

That river card is excellent for you, but vill is unlikely to ever bet it for you. I agree with betting $50 thinking a 4 or even an ace may call getting good odds.

Call and donk turn. If you repop that bet to $32 he'll fold out worse pairs.

By leading turn you should be able to continue to get value out of a lot of pairs that will put you on a weaker blocker with a variety of pairs/AK, if hes a donk.

$48 looks good to me.

Ha, a turn minraise would be so cool. c/r to 54.

Re: Flop quads, then get raised!

Played fine, I don't c/r turn to keep his overpair around (or keep him bluffing)

River I bet 50/60 because villain could think you have A high on double paired board and pay off with overpair.

44 or whatever is raising you anyway, so you don't have to worry about extracting value from monster hands.

Re: Flop quads, then get raised!

Min 3-bet the flop. People feel too dirty to fold to the min 3-bet and they often go bonkers with air. If he calls the min 3-bet then bet smallish on the turn and smallish on the river.
