how do i fix the colors on my monitor
 

i woke up today and my computer turned on with the colors completely screwed up.

im missing certain colors like red and its causing all the other ones to blend into the wrong stuff. ive tried system restore, messing around in adobe gamma, and looking through the intel display settings. ive also manually tried setting up my settings on the monitor but it hasnt helped.

is there something else i can do or any freeware programs that can correct these things for me?

degauss is a function in your monitor (if you have a CRT)

my guess is either there is a loose connection between your monitor and video card or your monitor or video card is broken.

i did the degauss and it didnt fix it. i tried looking around for loose cables and even unplugging everything in and out to be sure. it didnt help.

if my monitors broken shouldnt the whole thing have been broken or could have certain colors been the only things to go out? im pretty confident its the red thats gone now as the usual green tab on the left with all the forums is now an ugly bland peach looking color.

Get a new cable. One of the pins is broken.

check the cable.. and make sure your video card is fully seated. wiggle everything and see if it changes.. depending on the type of monitor, it could be broken. Don't crt's use different guns for every color?

If the color is screwed up uniformly over the whole screen, then it's probably a loose connection in the cable. Try tweaking the cable around where it joins the monitor, and check that none of the pins have broken off or bent where it plugs into your PC. If you find a shop that sells refurbished monitors they should be able to replace the cable for you.

loaned my digital camera out so i cant take a picture.

tried messing around with the cable and it also didnt help. ill have to go look through a closet and see if i have my old cable from my old pc in there.

im pretty sure your monitor works, but a cable is broken or something like that. try another cable or check your cable. maybe its not really plugged in..

i have an old dell monitor i had from my old pc and its not recognizing it at all whatsoever. any ideas on what can be causing the problem? ive plugged it all in properly and its not showing anything from the pc its hooked up to.

well first of all.. drop the resolution down to something low.. 1024x768 or so since you say you are trying an "old" monitor. You might be trying to display a resolution that it can't display.

yah i did :/ i set it all the way down to 800x600 with 16bit and it still didnt work.

try doing that on the original monitor also, that should show you if something weird is going on with that one. one of my 21" crt's screws up if i run a certain resolution, but is fine at all other ones.

hmmm.. it still displays the same stuff on the original monitor though? Almost sounds like a graphics card problem.. but it would be really weird that nothing showed up on the old monitor, your old one might be broken since it's doing nothing.

I'd say pop your case open, pull your graphics card out, check the pins on the outputs to make sure nothing is damaged.. clean the dust etc. off the contacts, and pop it back in.

when i plug in the old monitor it doesnt show up anything on the screen from the computer its hooked up to.

i know it works because it runs self tests and has everything show up from its brightness/contrast/color options.

Some sort of magnet that wasn't there before nearby? Really messes up the color to one of my tvs when used in the basement. Prolly something with video card though since cable was replaced.

you have another computer you can try with the monitor? being that you changed monitors and you coulnd't use the old one is kinda inconclusive, maybe you had it on the wrong input?? I know my dells have 2 inputs.

Uhm.. try reinstalling graphics drivers.

It would really help to see a picture of what is going on though.

it probably is sending out the color right but its showing up as if im viewing it through blue green goggles.
