All-NOT-All-Star team

three rules :

- take anyone who is not selected to the all-star game, either all AL or all NL

- come up with a complete lineup and bullpen. bench if you like.

- the team must be competitive with the actual All-Star team (edit: OK, just make it VERY competitive but not necessarily with the all-stars)

here are the lineups (ie players you cannot use)

Re: All-NOT-All-Star team

It's impossible to create a team that's competitive with the first team All-Star. The second team would be decimated. It would be a good team, but not in comparison to the first team.

Re: All-NOT-All-Star team

AL

C Kohjima
1B Youkilis
2B Cano
3B Figgins
SS O. Cabrera
OF Sheffield (whatever, i am putting him in RF)
OF Abreu
OF Granderson

Pitchers
SP Wang
SP Bedard
SP Hernandez (scratched: Halladay)
SP Blanton (scratched: Escobar)
SP Matsuzaka
RP Nathan
RP Street
RP Gagne
CL Rivera

i find that OF is the thinnest position, because the all-star takes like 7-8 or them, but it's pretty doable to get decent pitching.

(edit: because I don't catch too many non AL-east games, i had to change a few pitchers after some thought)

Re: All-NOT-All-Star team

Bays numbers are way down this year. He's a very good player but his OPS is down almost 160 from last year. Batting average is donw 30 points, obp down 60 points. I haven't watched much Pirates baseball but he needs to really work the second half.

Meanwhile Howard's OPS is down around 150, BA down 60 but his OPS is still almost 200 points higher than Bay with more RBS and less SOs.

I'm interested that you think Chris Duncan. I follow the Cards, and while I think that Duncan is already well above average overall and can potentially become an all star, I don't see him being this good (up there with the current all stars) yet. For one thing his fielding, while improving, still has a ways to go. But I'm not flaming you -- I'd like to see why you (or anyone else) thinks this.

Oh, and Izzy all the way!

Just took a quick glance at EQA for the season so far, and he was up there.

Re: All-NOT-All-Star team

Bengie: .281 .302 .421
Yadier: .268 .326 .325

His 24 points of obp aren't quite enough to make up the near 100 point deficit in slugging percentage. Also, Bengie has a history of being a decent hitter, Yadier doesn't.

Also, RE: bay + howard

Bay hasn't hit well this year which is particularly frustrating since hes on my fantasy team.

Howard is certainly a much better hitter then Gonzalez but I left him off since he missed like 15 games, has struggled (for him) a bit at the plate and is a lot worse in the field.

I actually agree with all this 100%, but Yadi should still be ahead of Bengie, and IMO it's not close. Do you see why?
