Phil Ivey vs. Andy Beal
 

Just read an article on pokernews.com that said Beal had apprently taken the $10 M stake the corporation had initially put up. Now supposedly they are back at it with Phil Ivey playing. After the first day of play Ivey is supposedly up $6 M.

would you really expect any other outcome? i mean he's up against the great ivey.... i wouldn't be surprised if he started refusing to play ivey, same way he refused to play lederer

google Andy Beal and The Corporation. lots of info out there otherwise I'd put a link. in a nutshell he's a billionaire banker and they're a group of the best high stakes players in the world. he battles them heads up in shifts, so to speak. read up on it. very cool stuff.

well he plays poker so he's a poker player. he's just not a professional poker player.

he has a huge roll (exact figure unknown but it's big) and he enjoys challenging himself against the best players in the world. his initial interest was to play for the highest stakes in the world (100k/200k I believe) and this is where the corporation came in. since no full-time pro has the roll to support those mega-high limits, they came together and pooled their rolls - each taking turns at playing Beal heads up. at least this is how i understood it to work.

i'm looking forward to reading the book and finding out all the details.

I'm thinking they would have been better off pooling their money and letting only Ivey (and perhaps Lederer) play, and splitting the winnings (in a sense, they'd be staking Ivey). Of course, their egos probably would not let them just believe that Ivey is better than most of the other members of the corporation.

Yeah, which is why Ivey isup 16 million against Beal and Harman was down a few million to Beal the last time they played.

Now I know why Ivey plays the big game... he still kills the 4k/8k game... this guy is phenomenal.

I don't really know that much about their egos (nor do you), but it probably has more to do with the fact that Beal only agreed to play if he could pick his opponents.
